Everyone is criticizing Sparano for fistpumping for field goals, but considering how bad our offense was this year, i would be fistpumping for fieldgoals as well.
First, we'll see how good Henne is by what Henne does next. We don't know if it's because Henne just isn't that good or if it's because Sparano's bad at coaching QB's. Romo, Pennington and Moore all did better with him than before, so I would say he's at least 3/4. It's not just the Wildcat. He's turned crappy RB's into good RB's pretty much his whole career. Julio Jones, Marion Barber, Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams (after 3 years out of football), Reggie Bush. They all got better with him around. He's got a lot of weaknesses as a head coach. We know this. He's not good with the clock, he's not particularly good on defense and he's not good with receivers. But believe me, this is a whole lot better than Schotty and a real improvement. If you want a coach who's bad with QB's, look at him. Brees, Rivers, Pennington, Favre - Bad under Schotty, good the season after. I'll take 3/4 success over 0/4.
This is a good point, we understand that Rex the DC is much better than Rex the HC, so far Rex has much to learn about being a HC. Sparano the OC is very different, his role is minimized and more focused, why don't we give him the benefit of the doubt, we hoped the best for BS when he was here, let's chill and see what he does. Maybe he does not have to reinvent the wheel with this team, they have talent it's just a matter of using it correctly. Presently this team is still built for running the ball, it won't hurt to have an OC who actually keeps the TE in to help Turner if he is still here.
Perfect point bolded. It all comes down to people wanting to bitch because if there is nothing to bitch about, they won't be happy. It's the typical Jet way. We were willing to give a guy with a 7 year bullshit track record the benefit of the doubt, but we bring in someone new, potentially two new guys who have all been parts of potent offenses and it's time to dismiss anything they've ever did and call for their heads or say the FO fucked up. It's amazing.
Hey... Parcells basically left Dumping on Henne's work ethic.... I'm pretty sure Parcells would love Sanchez' work ethic... So, we shall see...... Remember Miami also had Brian Freaking Dabol as their OC.... Cue the laugh track.
"But if you go back to Sparano's days in Dallas, when he called plays under Bill Parcells, his approach was often much more aggressive, if still run-oriented. Saints coach Sean Payton actually attempted to hire Sparano to run his offense in 2006 (they are close friends), but Parcells blocked the move. Now paired up with Ryan's defense, Sparano's style could create an ideal union."
Oh it will happen. Power I formation. 2RB...2 TE formations, Actually throwing out of the Wildcat. Big shots downfield.
Bet when Sanchez sucks next year the excuse will be "well Henne sucked under Sporano to so lets fire Sporano". It will never end.
Guessing you haven't watched espn today. Anonymous Jets players calling Mark lazy and content and never trying to get better. Woody came on and said he's not competitive and lacked that fire that the whole team wanted him to have.
At least we have a temporary HC when the D takes another step back next year and Rex can't hide anymore.
When you recognize the head is rotten you need to be prepared to cut it off. Cutting off a limb isn't going to do the trick.
I wasn't actually bagging on your post, I was agreeing with it. I was bagging on the constant use of 'wildcat' by every talking head and message board fan that wants to call a snap to a non-QB player 'the wildcat'. The single wing is a different animal than most pro formations and it took balls to use it at the pro level. Schotty's version of balls is putting 4 players into motion simultaneously on the very first play of the game and drawing one of your own players offside.
I guess bottom line is, and this is coming from a dolphins fan so there may be some bias, but I also have a more educated opinion because I've been watching Sparano since he started coaching us, I would not want him to be my offensive coordinator. It's as simple as that. There's no knowing how he will do because he hasn't ever done it before (besides 2006 with dallas but even then he wasn't the full on OC). But everything I've seen makes me think he wont be successful. I've already gone over his strengths and weaknesses and stuff so I'm not going to get into that. I just dont think he's a good coach of really anything. And this isn't just because he went to the Jets. I would say the same thing if he went to Cleveland, or Tampa Bay, or Minnesota. It would've surprised me to hear it announced and I wouldn't know why an owner would do that, and would think it was a bad decision. Only time will tell.
So I guess 2008 was a complete fluke? His track record with running backs (Jones, Barber, Ricky, Bush, etc) just a coincidence? Come on, man. 8 months ago, you were singing a completely different tune about his first 3 seasons and you know it.
