it appears as though i did... doh!

either way ndmick i would love to see an article that quotes him saying he never wants to be a head coach again. i dont recall him saying it but as i said he did have a pretty ugly exit at nebraska so i guess its possible. i didnt find anything maybe you can find something for me. until then i will say its absurd.

I am glad they denied this request as well. He does a great job with the O-LINE!

Well there's a balancing act between denying the requests and letting the assistants take interviews they want to take. You don't want your coaches spending all their time interviewing and you want them to generally respect their contracts, but you want them to feel they are allowed to advance their carreers so they work hard and so other coaches view the Jets as a good place to work and advance their careers.

We have no idea if Callahan and Thurman wanted the interviews they weren't allowed to take. Maybe they are incredibly mad; maybe they asked the Jets to deny the interviews for them. We just don't know.

What you don't want to do is alienate the staff in a way that they stop coaching hard, get up and leave at some crucial point (e.g. leave during the playoffs), or badmouth the team to other prospective coaches who we want to hire.

None of us have any information about whether the denials pissed off the coaches or not so it's just a waste of time to talk about it.

I think we should have granted them permission and even said that we'd fly him out on Woody's private jet. Then when the Jet landed out walks SCHOTTY!

Here is the issue , let's be honest, going to Tennessee who essentially now have a medling owner and an awful QB situation could be for most coordinators who understand the business a poor business decision. There is no stability in Nashville. Vince Young is your QB because the owner wants him to be. If Vince Young fails you get fired not Vince Young, if buy chance Bud Adams loses interest in Young in all likelyhood your stuck with a rookie QB which in most cases means rebuild and potential ownership losing patience in the coaching staff.

He has a good deal with the Jets, associate head coach is nothing to overlook, the franchise appears to be stable and it's obvious that people want to play and work for Rex. Nobody knows what the hell your going to get with Mike Munchak so for a guy as old as Callahan is why take that risk?

Definitely hope we'd keep Bill even if we have Shotty. Then we can promote him midseason if we have to.
