So is Cimini not the author of this article? Is it taken from Tannenbuam's diary, which he so desperately wants everyone to read?
This article is what I call "faggot crap". Sure, let's be like every company we 've all worked for and blame the guy who's not here anymore. C'mon now. Where were all the critics of Gholston on draft day? Tanny made the pick and it hasn't worked out. End of story. I'd blame Mangini only if Rex was getting something out of him that Eric couldn't. Doesn't seem to be the case now, does it?
he trade with us for an awful reason - he wants "his guys" His guys are JAGs who know the system and he thinks that they can help with teaching it to the players that are already there. I heard a report on TV that Braylon said to Mangini: You don't know what you are doing... which is true, he doesn't. So Eric shipped Edwards to the Jets because he knew they needed a #1 WR.
+1. It's still my favorite assessment of Mangini with the Browns: He's doing a great job of surrounding himself with the guys how got him fired last year.
Mangini traded with us on draft day because they wanted to move down anyway. Not many teams wanted to move up so the compensation wasn't all that great.. but both teams got what they were looking for. And he traded Edwards b/c neither of them wanted Edwards in Cleveland and Edward is going to be a free agent next year. It was either watch him walk or trade him. Neither of those deals was made just to get "his guys". Mangini might be a stiff, but if I were a Browns' fan I'd be content with both those trades.
why? are you another one who didn't read shit about the Browns situation? Because the poster I was responding to could care less about the Browns and that's why he didn't get my point of view. how quickly am I killing you by the way? Slowly? Quickly? Evenly paced?
If Gholston is percieved as a bust than it certainly would be in Tannenbaum's best interest to blame this huge mistake on Mangini and away from himself. Leaks are done intentionally by public organizations all the time because it allows them to deflect blame or take credit.
There was an article in Newsday a few months back where Brian Baldinger was at the Jets facility and may have broke the news first saying mangini pulled a power play in the draft room and got his wish. I remember the exact quote of Baldinger: "It should go on Mangini's tombstone" which is where i got it from. After hearing that story and then whats going on in Cleveland it makes perfect sense. Napoleon got his wish and fucked everyone over. it probably was the second biggest reason for his removal, the first of course being the collapse and throwing the ball 35 times in the Seattle snow.
I wish we had picked Mayo instead. I will admit I was excited for the gholston pick, but Mayo is such a solid all around player. I wonder if Gholston had been picked by the Pats if he would have been productive there
Lets be honest Gholston is a pretty big bust but even Parcells had his share of trainwreck picks. Now none of them were as bad as this heap of shit but look at the drafts when Parcells was here. Dorian Boose, Scott Frost, Rick Terry, Kevin Williams, David Loverne, Terry Day.... all were top 100 picks. Honestly I don't think Tuna drafted 1 pro bowler while he was coaching here. His best picks were either Jason Ferguson (who was a steal in the 7th round) Dedric Ward, Jason Fabini or Randy Thomas. At least Mangini could fall back on drafting some solid OL and Revis.
Look on the bright side though... Keller is a very good TE, Lowery is our starting CB and Ainge seems like a good prospect at QB (you just never know with QBs). In the 2008 draft we fucked up the 1st rounder (Gholston), the 6th rounder (Henry sucks balls) and partially the 7th rouner (Gartner didn't make our team but he's on the Dolphins 53 man roster so I guess he isn't that bad as a prospect). All in all we had a good draft... sure, it hurts when your #6 pick is a bust but we also got a starting CB in rd 4 and that's big.
