I think marty has been shit this year so far but I am sold that Rex is the one who wants these wildcat and trick plays
It really pains me sumthin' HARD to read posts such as these calling for the elimination of a coach based on a few questionable calls. 1st off, who would you replace M&M with this early in the season? What would your opinion be if those plays were successful? Have you pondered that MAYBE fault can be placed on player error/poor execution? We are on our 3rd OC in 3 years; can you honestly admit that M&M is step UP from the 2 prev OC's ? As a Jet-Junkie since '67, I've seen the WORST of what the JETS have offered & learned that "knee-jerk" opinions are useless until after analyzing the entire season". Most here (including myself) do not fall victim to the "early season" calls for change when things don't work out the way you want. One must look @ the ENTIRE picture when calling for the elimination of a member of the CS along with the ramifications that the firing will bring about to the overall mindset & collective performance of the particular Jet player-personnel he coaches. Chill brutha' & let the season play out. Unless you can provide a viable alternative to M&M, calling for his removal is both pointless & useless. Let's just see how this all plays out.........! jus' sayin'.....
It really isn't MM, it's the talent! Blame Geno for the endzone interception but Nelson with his height has got to fight for that ball. I watched Nelson carry the ball loosely and fumble it twice during the game. Perhaps what ever the illness is that's bothering him in camp this week started during or before the game. Nelson is not a very good number 2 option at WR. He is only marginally better than Hill was but with less speed. The Jets brass surely have thought about possibly signing Hill off of the practice squad he's on. The redzone play has got to be run with the TEs in the game.
Holy shit, if Braylon, Holmes and Cotchery were average WR's at the time, I have no hope that we'll ever approach mediocrity at the WR position again...
The wonderful thing about those WRs was if a jump ball or a bad ball was thrown up in the air Braylon and Cotchery would fight for it. Burress as well in 2011. We have no reciever now that can even come close to winning a jump ball. Edwards probably saved at least 5 INTs per year on poorly thrown balls especially underthrown deep balls. Our QB could throw the ball up knowing if Edwards was not going to catch it he at least could knock it down. Our WRs now get beat when they fight for the ball. There is no way Edwards or Cotchery would have let the Nelson or Sudfield INTs turn into an INT. It's nice we got rid of Hill as he often turned well thrown passes into INTs but our present WRs now do our team no favors. This becomes of particular relevance in the redzone where there is no a player we can throw the ball up to and depend upon on him to to win the battle for the ball. You watch the Bears with Marshall , Jeffrey and Bennett winning every battle for the ball and just wonder when are going to be lucky enough to have guys who can do that.
FWIW- Gruden explains that it was Kelly who nearly lured Chuckie in to the college game while head coach at Oregon. "Matter of fact," Gruden said, "he offered me the offensive coordinator job of the Ducks right when I got fired so I could learn his spread. I was going to do it, but my wife was halfway out the door." It always comes back to family, right? Gruden was fired by Tampa Bay in 2008. Gruden, a former offensive coordinator with the Eagles and assistant with the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers, last coached in college 1991 as a wide receivers coach for Pittsburgh. Kelly needed an offensive coordinator on his staff after being promoted to head coach of the Ducks in 2009 following the promotion of Mike Belloti to athletics director. http://bloguin.com/crystalballrun/2...being-an-oregon-assistant-for-chip-kelly.html
its about the players, not the coordinator. you can only do so much with mark sanchez and geno smith. you can only do so much with bottom 5 skill players. Also, alot of this is on rex, not putting any emphasis on protecting the football and instilling a culture with a lack of accountability and excuse making rex has also drafted defense early and often, ingnoring the offensive side this is rex much more then it is is marty, sparano, shotty
I don't know if Ryan is a great coach. His defensive IQ is high but he's done some stupid things. For instance, he's given away his playbook so many times that bazaars in Afghanistan sell it along with their illegally copied movies. We've made a ton of questionable coaching decisions on the offensive side of the ball. Schotty was more successful than his two successors. Ryan is part of the problem...not so much because of his competence but because the game changed. This is a passing league and yet we seem way too interested in trying to run the ball.
Decker makes such a big difference in the offense because he gets open consistently. You don't need an elite playmaker (even though they sure are nice), you just need guys to consistently get open. Without Decker the only player who gets consistently open is Kerley, and you need more than just him. I wish we had picked up James Jones and Decker, way more than I wish we picked up a CB.
We have the 9th ranked offense in the league after 3 weeks of play. Despite the lack of talent and inexperience MM is working with. If you just watch the game you can tell that this is probably the best offense we've had since RR has been HC. Yet, this is a thread that someone felt needed to be made. Awesome.
That stat matters if you don't care about points scored or wins. Anybody know who leads the stats in getting into position to score and failing completely? Your sarcasm is kind of annoying here. Until the offense actually shows that they can seal a deal, you are latching onto a ranking that doesn't equal success.
