Yeah, I was baffled by the lack of PA attempts at the end of the game...and run, run, pass, doesn't work. I don't know why they don't try to mix run and pass, not all of one or the other. I was upset with the play calling early, too...spreading the offense out and letting Favre take hit after hit. He's made it this far, but the guy is getting old, give him some protection and maybe something opens up. There's also no way Jones should have 150+ rushing yards, the opposing defense is totally exhausted, and you still can't move the ball. I didn't get the feeling the Jets wanted this game at all, until the last drive of regulation, and then they turned it back off. They played like the same old Jets.
Woody was getting beaten like a drum with one quick inside move by Trevor Scott after another. I believe Scott realized Woody had a bum leg and was playing into it there every chance he got -- that's how he won so many times. Hindsight says that Wayne Hunter should have come in a lot earlier -- but then TJ might now have had as many good running lanes to the right...
The next time I see Thomas Jones break a tackle will be the first time. God, I wish we still had Curtis Martin
I personally couldn't handle watching them lose to the Raiders a second time so I had to change the channel.
Please explain to me how a QB was very good early on when he only led us to 3 pts in the 1st half an 13 total in 5 qtrs? Regardless of whether Cotch fell down on the INT he was surrounded by 3 Raiders, it was an awful decision that may have cost us the game. Coming into this year I would have agreed w/ your Leon assessment but this season Jones has clearly been much better. Leon still needs more touches but Jones deserves to be the guy getting the bulk of the carries.
Football is a team sport, Favre was playing very well despite/when you consider that.... 1. He was constantly under pressure. 2. Coles and Cotchery weren't getting open. 3. His primary running back needed absolutely 100% perfect blocking to do anything. 4. Baker and Smith both had drops (and falls) and they were the only ones really getting open. And I don't get how Jones "deserves" to be the guy. I know Leon is a small HB, but you know who else was small? Tiki Barber was a small HB. Warrick Dunn is hardly a large man. On the Giants now Ahmad Bradshaw still gets carries and he's not a big RB too. I think Leon is at least twice the playmaker Jones is and he "deserves" a chance to be in this offense.
he was constantly under pressure b/c he was holding on to the ball too long. Where did I say leon didn't deserve to be #1 b/c of his size? I said Jones has outperformed him this year which he has. I said Leon needs mroe touches but Jones needs the bulk of the carries- he has earned that w/ his play.
Holding the ball too long and checking down as constantly as Favre did is the result of your starting wr not getting separation. Cotch was open on checkdown routes and Coles only real big play was the quick slant Favre hit him with. And I don't think Jones play is worthy of him getting the touches he has thus far received. Leon is by far a more explosive, dynamic, and dangerous player. He can turn screens and checkdowns into big plays, Jones lacks the speed and moves to do so. Leon also would have almost certainly scored on one of those big runs Jones got only due to excellent blocker. Jones is a solid back that does not make big plays, he should be the change of pace back and short yardage guy.
Your first paragrpah is very possible but I have a hard time believing nobody was open all game. Obviously I don'y have the coaches tape so I don't know for sure but I find that hard to believe. Jones is averaging 4.4 per carry, leon 3.7. Jones has been better all year. I STILL wnat Leon touching it more whether that's by handoff or pass but Jones deserves the bulk of the carries.
Yea...Favre's been getting a pass all season but the only game he's looked really comfortable in was the Cardinals game. Weird that thats been the only game against an NFC opponent so far. Thoughts on this people of the board?
