Q-and-A with GM Tannenbaum at the combine By Dan Leberfeld Date: Feb 23, 2006 Q)Can you give us an update on the Chad Pennington situation? Tannenbaum: Chad Pennington is a member of the New York Jets. We are obviously involved with some negotiations now, but do to club policy, we will not discuss the specifics of that. Q)Where do the negotiations stand now? Tannenbaum: We have had numerous conversations, and we are working hard towards reaching a resolution. We are in the middle of active negotiations. Q)How many agents are you negotiating with at the combine on re-structured contracts? Tannenbaum: That isn’t including my wife is it (laughs). We have a number of agents we are working with. We are going to keep working hard until next Thursday at 3:59, and we are comfortable with where our situation is. Q)How do you feel about your current cap situation? Tannenbaum: We have a lot of issues we are working through right now, but we are very comfortable where we are, and our plan will continue to evolve, and by next Thursday we will be where we need to be. Q)How are you going to divide up your time at the combine between cap stuff and scouting players? Tannenbaum: That is a great question. We are obviously dealing with all our issues. We will deal with things that are time sensitive first and foremost. We have a lot of great people hear working strictly on personnel like Jesse Kaye, Joey Clinkscales, Terry Bradway. They are devoting all their time to that. Eric (Mangini) and I are working through all the issues that are time sensitive. Q)Would you like to see other veteran players follow Curtis Martin’s lead, and help the team out? Tannenbaum: I’ve known Curtis since 1998, and my opinion of him hasn’t changed. He’s a selfless person, he’s a warrior, he plays hurt. I think we are very fortunate. His actions spoke volumes yesterday, and we are appreciative of that, and we are going to use those resources to improve the football team. We are appreciative of how things worked out with Curt. We think it was a mutually satisfactory solution to the issue, and we are going to keep moving forward with our plan. Q)Will Brooks Bollinger be given a chance to compete for the starting job? Tannenbaum: As Eric (Mangini) has said before. All players will be given a chance to compete for a starting job. He will play the best players who give us the best chance to win. I like Brooks a lot. He’s tough, he’s smart. He played hurt this year. I have a lot of respect for Brooks. Q)How do you think the John Abraham situation is going to play out? Tannenbaum: By us designating him the franchise player, that show a lot about what we think of John. I don’t want to comment on any of the speculation, except that we hold John in the highest regard. Over the last six years I’ve seen him do a lot of great things for the organization. Q)How is the job treating you so far? Tannenbaum: Chose a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life.

Mike Bell had a solid day as did Andre Hall. Maurice Drew probably wished he ran a little faster yet his practice session was top-notch as was Jerome Harrison's, who keeps climbing up boards.

Chris Chester of Oklahoma was easily the top athlete on the turf. He was fast and fluid as well as very explosive. Chester also caught passes at tight end (his original college position) afterwards and did well. He does need to fine tune some fundamentals but Chester cemented a top 75-selection for himself. The title of second best athlete goes to another former tight end. Guy Whimper of East Carolina has been building steam since late in the year when he really started to come on at offensive tackle and looked great today. Whimper was fluid and very quick. He definitely elevated his stock today. Winston Justice elevated his stock. After a slow start his footwork was exceptional late in the session. Most impressive was the was the big tackle slid off the edge when used at left tackle drills. Continuing to improve upon his tremendous performance at the Senior Bowl, Nick Mangold may have just moved into round one with his showing today. Charles Spencer, Fred Matua, Max Jean-Gilles, Davin Joseph, Jonathan Scott and Andrew Whitworth also did a solid job this morning. Stefon Wheeler probably lost what little chance he had of being drafted based on today's results while Zach Strief, Donovan Raiola and Troy Reddick also struggled
I think it all depends of Pennington. I have nothing against Cutler, believed me, just that I think hes a bit overhyped. If Chad restructures I believe theyll give him one last chance to prove himself, and go into next years possibily looking to draft a new QB, depending on how the situation plays out. If he dosent, and they cut him, I expect the Jets to look towards Cutler this year, and sign a vet in FA. JMO
At 6'3, 300 pounds, and running a 4.8, I think Chester deserves SERIOUS consideration for us as at least a blocking tight end. Which still means we need to find a receiving TE. But as a blocking TE I think Chester would be a MARVELOUS pickup
There's a rumor going around that Vince Young got a 6 on the Wonderlic. If that's true the Jets should definitely stay away from him. that's not a billichek type player for Mangini.
i dont know about TE. but he makes a scary looking guard prospect. imagine him pulling around the corner full speed somebodys getting hurt
NFL ROUNDUP: Bloom amazed at combine February 25, 2006 Email this Print this BY NICHOLAS J. COTSONIKA FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER INDIANAPOLIS -- When people looked at Jeremy Bloom on Friday, they were a little in awe of him. He wore a gray sweatshirt with "WO08" on it because he was wideout prospect No. 8 at the NFL scouting combine, and he wore blue sweatpants with "Torino 2006" on them because he was a U.S. Olympian. But when Bloom looked at certain people, he was a little in awe of them. Here he was, a former Colorado player who had sat out two years because of conflicts with the NCAA, in the same place with projected high draft picks like running back LenDale White and quarterbacks Matt Leinart and Vince Young. "I've got to pinch myself," Bloom said. "I'm like, 'Hey, what's up, man?' They're like, 'I've got mad respect for you.' I'm like, 'Well, I've got tons of respect for you.' " Bloom, a freestyle skier, finished sixth in men's moguls last Wednesday. He returned to the United States from Italy this week, but still screwed up by the travel and his hectic schedule, he wasn't sure exactly when. "I don't know," he said. "What's today?" Told it was Friday, he said: "Yeah, Monday or Tuesday." Bloom said it was "really weird" watching the Olympics on television. "I keep having to remind myself that I was there last week," he said. "I turn it on, and I feel like it was an eternity ago that I was there." Some people around Bloom advised him not to work out at the combine, to rest and work out at a later date, but he plans to do everything. "To me, the NFL combine is a place of competition at its highest," he said. "I don't want to come here and not compete. I understand I'm at a disadvantage, but sometimes you wake up on game day and don't feel great. You've still got to play." QB TALK: Leinart and Young defended themselves. Leinart said he could run and throw on the run more than some thought. Young said his unorthodox throwing motion and scrambling style didn't need to change in the NFL. But Leinart and Young are in Indy only for tests. They aren't working out like former Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler, whose stock has been rising. "I'm going to go out there and compete," he said. "I wish everyone was competing with me, but that's how it goes." Former Virginia Tech QB Marcus Vick will work out, saying he wouldn't compare himself to troubled talent Maurice Clarett. "I heard he came here and he did the drills that he wanted to do and he sometimes will walk out of a drill, and I'm not that kind of person," Vick said. "I'm going to finish my drills, and I'm going to do everything, whatever they want to see." QUICK QUIPS: Cutler was asked if the money would change him. "I don't know," he said with a smile. "We'll find out soon."... White weighed 238. He weighed 253 for the Rose Bowl. Why? "Thanksgiving and Christmas," he said. Indianapolis: Defensive lineman Raheem Brock signed a five-year contract. He had 6 1/2 sacks last season. Minnesota: Downplaying the trade speculation surrounding Daunte Culpepper, coach Brad Childress asserted he plans to have Culpepper and Brad Johnson this year at quarterback. San Francisco: The 49ers won a coin toss and will get the sixth pick in the April draft, followed by the Raiders. Notebook: The NFL players union is instructing agents to negotiate contracts as if no new labor deal will be in place during free agency. Gene Upshaw, executive director of the NFL Players Association, finished talks in Indianapolis on Friday without an extension to the collective bargaining agreement and sounded pessimistic that a contract can be reached before the start of the league calendar Friday
Didnt find much else, but Culter put up 225 x 23 (most ever by QB), and Williams put up 25 EDIT: I know I posted this somewhere (maybe even in this thread) but Im too dmn lazy too look it up. Leonard Pope measured in at just under 6'8. If he falls to our 2nd rounder we need to seriously consider him

Ok tomorrow. Big deal. Why not talk football, if you want to correct grammer, go teached second grade...
Yes, talking football is a good idea, so why don't you get to it? Anyone who looks at your post history can tell you haven't said anything substantial or football-related in the Jets forum.
What joke? I'm new here, and I type fast don't worry about spellin... Hey hwo can u have Eddie Van Halen as #2? C'mon man...
