If we dominate this year they might both want to come back to be part of something special. Give the Jets a discount and give Mark numerous weapons for years to come.
I think a lot of people are confusing stats with stepping up. Yeah Braylon will have better stats because hes going to play a full season, and Santonio is going to take a while to get rolling. But last time I checked who does better during the regular season means absolute shit to me. Thomas Jones (on paper) was one of the best hbs in the nfl last year, yet was absolute garbage when it counted in the playoffs. And for the people saying "Well santonio isnt playing till week 5", im just going to remind you that Braylons first game as a jet last year? Week 5, and he stepped his game up in the playoffs. So as far as im concerned Santonio has every opportunity to step up and be the guy, but ultimately im convinced this is Braylons year because I dont believe Santonio will match Braylons hard work and discipline. Also one important thing to look out for is, who is going to be covered by the #1 corner ? I would suspect it HAS to be Braylon since hes far more physical and would absolutely slaughter #2 and #3 corners (and since hes our #1 ), which means Santonio is going to get far more favorable matchups. Especially since with Cotchery in the picture its completely possible that Santonio could be going head to head against nickle/dime corners or even safeties which means he COULD have the most opportunities to make the big plays.
My guess is their #1 stays on Holmes and Braylon gets a double, especially if he looks nasty the first few games while Holmes is out. Which leaves Jaco in single coverage, unless they roll safety help...which leaves Keller isolated with a linebacker, unless you bring the other safety, which leaves...wait did they just hit LT underneath? Aww fuck it.
My guess is we will tend to see opponents use mostly zone coverage particularly when the Jets go to three wideouts with Keller on the field.
^ which is part of the reason I think Jaco may have the biggest year out of all three of them. Braylon and Holmes will get their shots, and a lot of the spectacular ones at that, but Jaco and Dustin are gonna do the heavy lifting.
Both have always had a ton of potential, but neither has lived up to it. Nice to see you round thse parts too, old buddy. Several people here have pointed out Edwards drop rate isn't as bad as I think, but I'm a believer in my own eyes. I know football pretty good, and I know a dropper when I see one. Edwards is a dropper. The stats may not support this as well as I'd like, but I know what I see. He has screwed up more plays than he's made. I'm willing to give him this season to prove me wrong, but he does have to prove me wrong. To this point all he's proven is that he cannot be relied upon when a big play is needed. If you want to be the go to guy, you don't let a ball bounce off your facemask, or drop a 60 yr. td pass when you're uncovered. You just don't.
