Edwards. He has a nearly a full season and a training camp under this system and catching Sanchez. He'll be the go-to guy.
I agree. I also think the dropped ball issue is overrated. I don't have the link but did read an analysis that says Edwards is no worse than average in that department. A couple of big plays last year stick in people's heads. I also expect a general upgrade from him after a whole off season of practice and getting more comfortable with the playbook. Of course if he's doubled the Jets may end up going more to Cotch and Holmes, but that doesn't mean he's not going to be the number one receiver for this team. He will be.
this. They'll both have their chances...and they're both talented wideouts. But Edwards gets the nod here, because he's had more game experience with Sanchez.....and.....Edwards isn't staring down a 4 game suspension to begin the season.
No doubt Holmes will step up and make some clutch plays for us(hopefully in the biggest of spots). But Edwards will have the breakout season. He has the benefit of another year in this offense w Sanchez, and playing in the first four games will make his stats significantly better than Holmes's. Also, I wouldn't be surprised in Holmes is contributes very little in his first 2-3 games back, then picks it up big time later in the season. Like a few others have mentioned Edward's problem wad never his work ethic, or commitment. His problem is he overthinks stuff when he has too much time. And I would never hate on a guy for wanting it too much. He'll come around and catch some bombs this year.
Yeah this is the main reason I think Braylon's gonna have a baller year. He got thrown into the fire last year and pretty much just relied on his natural ability in the beginning. I also think if you look at some of Mark's "what the fuck was that" throws last year they were to Braylon. I think Mark threw some balls his way under the assumption that Braylon could just punk double coverage. And he probably can, but not without months to work on timing routes. The other thing I'm stoked about is that he spent a good deal of OTA's learning all the Z-routes, so he should have a better shot at getting open this year on the short slants and the outs, rather than just running posts and trying to burn people off the line.
Anyone who has played football will tell you those over the shoulder go routes are some of the hardest passes to catch even when you are wide open. You don't see a lot of NFL recievers drop them, bc a lot of recievers don't have the skills to get in the open field like that. The fact that we saw Edwards get so many of those opportunities is a testament to his natural ability.
How many games did Bredwards lose on his miniscule amount of drops last year? Yeah, Breddy's gonna have a resurgence.
Stone hands Edwards? Ummmm...don't think so.... -Football Outsiders As for Holmes - a pothead is a pothead, is a pothead.
I have always loved Holmes, even when he was in college, but bc of the suspension, I say Edwards has the big year.
Maybe with all the attention focused on our receivers Dustin Keller has a breakout year and tears the league a new one!!
This assumption will be put to the test in 2010. Edwards and Holmes are potential pro bowlers. I am hoping Edwards emerges as the # 1. If Holmes is the guy we may suffer losses in more of our early games.
I think having Holmes on our roster is more of a luxury at this point. He certainly adds to the offense....but if he we didn't have him, i don't think we'd lose games because of that. Our run game is stout....and we have Keller and Cotch to supplement Holmes' production until he comes back. Bottom line....our offense shouldn't miss a beat.
I actually think that this is pretty likely; maybe Keller won't tear the league a new one, but he's going to get a lot of balls thrown in his direction. The Jets are still going to be a run first team, but they also have 3 legitimate threats at wideout. That's going to mean that Keller will be covered by linebackers frequently, and he obviously has the advantage in that situation. Add to that the fact that Sanchez will probably still be treated with kid gloves to some degree, and encouraged to frequently go to his checkdown option. Who will probably be Dustin Keller more often than not.
Edwards has to really fuck up to not beat out a guy who is missing the first four games and not going to be a big part of the next 2.
