You can not just take the average yearly salary of the player and use it as the cap hit. It is much more complicated, there is deferred money, guaranteed money, bonuses, and what is actually this years salary to consider
Just for your info, Powell s salary of $2M is already included but yeah I would say you are in the ballpark that we have approx $11M for FA or released players will occur in training camp etc. $6M is for draft pool so roughly $17M total remaining. So for $11M, this leaves about 2, maybe 3 players to grab for FA. Will be interesting who is the next Jet will be.
They can always get a little more cap room by cutting some players or by restructuring others. Anything done with Mo now will likely have to be back loaded. I hate back loaded contracts for rebuilding teams

If Pryor lives up to the hype it could be a beyond dangerous defense. Only thing were missing is an above average OLB. Something we really havent had since the days of John Abraham really. Draft could solve that problem though as well as the oline. Im looking forward to see Mac's player evaluation skills in action.
Why are you nervous? The cap rules stipulate that the Jets HAVE to spend this money. Underspending the last two seasons leaves them in a position where this year and next year they have to spend something like (random ballpark guess) 93% of their available cap space. If they don't, the money gets distributed to the players already on the team. So.....put it to good use.
I disagree. When you draft a player and he outplays his contract, he and his teammates expect him to be rewarded. The player wants to be shown that he is respected and appreciated for his play and his efforts, especially when he's been a model citizen and teammate. Continuing to put off paying Mo and bringing in outsiders shows him zero respect and it could wind up biting the Jets in the ass. Rewarding and re-signing our own should be the #1 priority over bringing in outsiders.
