When the WRs are interviewed about these plays they claim the play was designed for the WR to run a different route depending on whether the coverage was man or zone and that they read it one way and BF read it the other. The problem might be a needlessly complicated offensive scheme courtesy of Brain Shot.
Grooming Someone Behind Favre Could Be Right Idea I Think I Want Him Back I Take A Flyer On Ocho Cinco Or Someone Like That Who Is Talented And See What We Can Do.
Thing Is Who Is Qb Who Makes Us Better Next Year The Money We Spent In Offseason Was For This Year And The Next Couple Remember Favre Fell In Our Lap And All The Moves Happened Before He Came
Also true. The blame obviously goes both ways. Favre has never had a GREAT deep ball, but a decent one. The question isn't even the DEEP DEEP STUFF, but like the 20 to 30 yarders. The route running just looks poor. Cotch and Coles both prove they have great hands, but the route running is... well it needs improvement. Coles will always be who he is. He thinks he is king shit, and it;s everyone elses fault. Cotchery I expect more of. Quiting on routes...etc... I think it's more or less not knowing what favre wants him to do, what he is seeing. That just takes an offseason of work, a full training camp worth of work. We must remember, he had two weeks of preperation really before playing together in a real game type situation. As I said, a offseason of work could fix these issues. AS FOR THE TALK ABOUT NOT HAVING BREAK AWAY SPEED: Donald Driver. He is not nearly the fastest guy on the field. In fact, his speed is arguably less then that of Coles. So why does HE get seperation on passes more then 10 yards down field? Route Running. The guy just runs some very, very solid routes, and fools hte defenders off of him.
Good post Packerbacker, We have had the luxury of seeing Favre at his best, and this even includes last year. I was really expecting the same type of offense from Schottenheimer this year. If he did, I think this team would be nearly unstoppable on the offensive side of the ball. Mainly because this team has explosive running from Jones and Washington. And, they run the screen pass like the old Packer screens. Dorsey Levens and Edgar Bennett of Super Bowl era. Open up the playbook, Let Favre do what he has been doing for 16 years. You will get some INT's but you won't be so predictable and defense will have to honor everything. Now, there just sitting on the short routes. and covering the occasional sideline go route. Probably the easiest long pass to defend. Wake up Mangini and Schotty, this is on you.
It's not Favre or the receivers or the line etc. It's the lack of an aggresive defense that has the Jets screwed up. The offense is built to be a ball control, eat up the clock type O. The last thing you want is Favre throwing the ball all over the place forcing things. Of course, yesterday he had no choice cause the Jets O was hardly on the fieldl cause the D could not get the Niners off the field. Favre is one of the brightest spots on this team. He is bringing energy to the O and still has that great fastball.
Rich Cimini's grade on the Jets Receivers: Wide Receivers: F Laveranues Coles: 1 reception for 5 yards. Jerricho Cotchery: 1 for 10 yards. That, quite frankly, is mind-boggling. The 49ers have a suspect pass defense (ranked 28th), and they played without their best corner, Nate Clements. The Jets should’ve had a field day against them, but Coles and Cotchery struggled to get open. Niners LT Joe Staley, who recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD, got his hands on as many balls as Coles and Cotchery, for crying out loud. Coles said the 49ers took the copycat route, employing the same coverage as the Broncos did the previous week - press coverage with a corner, and a safety over the top. If that’s true, the other receivers should’ve been open. Didn’t happen. Chansi Stuckey caught four balls, with a nice run after the catch on a 24-yard play, but he made a big mistake early on. On a third-and-9 in the first quarter, he cut off his route at 8 yards and the Jets ended up a yard short, having to punt.
Maybe Brain Shot called a play designed for Stuckey to run an 8 yard route. Maybe Shot should have called a different play. Honestly, these players have more credibility with me than the dork coaches.
