I think the question of who plays next to him will be answered via the draft. At these in a year or two that drafted guy will play next to him, for this upcoming year, we appear set to go with Elam...

Great news that Rhodes is locked up, but really how many people were freaking out thinking he wasnt going to be here next year? like we didnt have a franchise tag or a year to negotiate. I didnt think this would be resolved until midseason, but to have it done before the draft is the best news we have had since we signed Richardson.

Jets agree to five-year, $33.5 million extension with Rhodes

    Its official
    http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d807acbc7&template=with-video&confirm=true

The New York Jets locked up a key member of their defensive secondary on Wednesday, agreeing to a five-year contract extension with safety Kerry Rhodes.

The extension is worth $33.5 million, including $20 million in guaranteed money, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter. Rhodes had one year remaining on his contract.

Rhodes has been a starter for the Jets since he was chosen in the fourth round (123rd overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. He started all 16 games for the third consecutive season in 2007, recording 67 total tackles and setting career-bests in passes defended (10) and interceptions (five).

In three NFL seasons, Rhodes has 270 total tackles, 24 passes defended and 10 interceptions.

Great news... the FO is not playing around. And now all those pundits yapping about the Jets not taking care of their own can STFU.

Great, great move. This puts the finishing touches on the offseason sans the draft in my eyes. Awesome job taking care of our own guys, Tanny.

Good news that they signed him for five more years, although I'd still like them to give Chris Baker a contract extension as well.

I don't think that will happen. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jets go TE with their 2nd or 4th round pick.

I'm assuming he's next on the list. He's very serviceable.

My heart stopped when I read your topic, but when I clicked on the link I was relieved to find out you meant re-signed and not resigned which meant quitting football. This is good news indeed.

This FO gets it. I started to lose a little faith after last season but I am firmly back to believing that the Jets are in good hands.

Hah, if you thought that Kerry would ever leave NYC? Hes one of the rare ones who actaully seems to relish the spotlight. He became the face of the jets after Vilma went down, this is great news, although he might have had a beast year in a contract year!

This is great news. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but after the last couple of Jet/Pat games Belichik made a bee-line to Kerry Rhodes to talk to him. He was licking his chops, with Harrison getting near retirement, you know he had his sites on him.
