Well I won't stay quiet just because you're a nice guy, but that's pretty bush. I never will understand how people can root for both NY teams, 3 in hockey.

It just rubs off way wrong for me and I just will never understand it, no matter the family ties, or "It'd be good for the city." "I'm just a NY sports fan."

Nah, not me...I picked my 4 NY teams and that's it. I only HATE the Giants and Rangers. The others? Mets, Nets, Devils...I could care less about them, but will RARELY root for them unless the Mets are playing Boston, or the Devils playing the Rangers...That's it.

I think I remember you a Nets fan, did you root for the Knicks when they went to the finals twice in the 90's?

I can understand that point. Truth be told, I've never witnessed this thing with people guarding to make sure fans can't more during the 7th inning stretch. It may well be true, and if so, it's wrong, but like I said, I've never seen it.

His attitude that the Yankees should win every year is more due to his financial investments every year IMO. If you spent more than every other owner in the sport, regardless of the effect on the bottom line, you'd expect to win all the time too.

He loves the fans. He demands that they get what they pay for when they purchase tickets. I like that, and admire that.

At the same time, before he was banned from the game, I despised him. He was a total douchebag, and caused more harm than good. Post-ban, he's been a much different person though, and I've got no problem judging him based on his actions over the past decade, rather than the time before he returned to the owner's box.

Actually, I was a Knicks fan for a very long time. Right until they got rid of Sprewell. I only became a Nets fan because I was watching YES every night, and wound up seeing a lot of games. I like Carter and Jefferson a lot, so I started following them.

I don't expect you to agree with me. I hold nothing against anyone who hates one team or another. It's all about choice. But don't knock me for having my own opinion.

Plus, I don't actively root for any team but the Yankees, Jets, and somewhat the Nets (though I am mostly indifferent about basketball in general.) I just don't have a problem with the other teams winning, that's all. If it can be my team, I'd like to at least see another local team do it.

Crap. You kind of diffused this debate. Now I have nothing to say...

I will make one point, pertaining to your 96ers definition: You have to admit, no team has more bandwagon jumping fans, or fair weather/fake fans, than the Yankees. The Red Sox are up there, post 2004, but still.

You know what? That is probably the dumbest claim i have ever heard. If the Mets were to win the series this year, you would see a hell of a lot of new fans at Shea next year. That goes for the Patriots or any other team that wins a championship. Come up with something better.

Did Alio say their weren't Yankees wagoners?

Of course the Yankees have the biggest bandwagon base, possibly the Lakers are right there...But you make it sound like it's a shocker that the Yanks have fake fans.

It's true, and it's funny watching them...They're the Yankees fan with "Jeter" on the back of his jersey while they ask the person sitting next to them, "Why don't the Yankees have their last name on the back of their jersey."

    :shit:

All true. But ya gotta admit their there are more front runners for the Yanks.

Of course their are the loyal fans who follow the team closely and all, like us here. But of course their are those few who just read the box score in the morning and when they see the Mets with a better record, they go and buy a Mets hat.

    Those are the losers.

I deny none of what you said. And trust me, I DESPISE 96ers, and I know some, who I say it right to their faces.

I'm a Yankees fan, always have been, always will be (well, unless Dolan buys the team.) The only time I wasn't glued to the tv or radio every game was the period post-strike that I avoided baseball like the plague.

And by the same token, I'll give the vast majority of Mets fans credit. They've stood by their team through thick and thin. The only more dedicated fans in baseball are the Red Sox fans.

Heh, look, I will never dog a Sox fan. The fact is, the vast majority of them waited an extremely long time for a title. Their 80s lasted 80+ years.

Of course there's bandwagoners, but those fans that waited decades deserved to bask in the sun. (I hate that they got it, but they deserved it.)

    Yep, Met fans are awesome.

By the way, if Dolan buys the team, I can't really express my happiness in words. Or pictures. But I would be thrilled; as a Knick fan, ruining the Yankees is the only good he could do.

I dunno man...At least Boston was competitive for years.

The Cubbies had some piss-poor seasons and still brought in over 30,000 to Wrigley Stadium(Jeff Gordon)

They've been waiting LONGER, 1908!! And it's a very good fan base...

And I'm willing to bet that most of them were not rooting for the White Sox in 2005 to win the World Series since it'd be "good for the city..."

    I keed Alio, I keed.

I definetly agree. there are even girl fans (and also Shade)who are just fans because of jeter,. But the part these Met fans leave out is its because mosty that the Yankees have won a lot and that attracts fans. There may be some seniors who are Yankee fans because they saw them win the series in the 30s or 40s. If we saw them at the stadium,is anyone gonna call them a 30er or a 40er?
That is the reasoning behind it,but when we got to explain that, were not allowed to bring up past championships.

I went to a Mets/Cards game in 98 because i wanted to see Mcgwire hit a HR. I got the tickets through ticketmaster. I still get numerous mail pretty much begging me to buy tickets to shea throughout the season for dirt cheap. whys that? why are those seats so open that they need to beg someone who hasnt been there in a decade to buy tickets?

Come on that might be true but I went to alot more Yankee games as a kid than Met games and I remember alot of and I mean alot of empty seats as Yankee games. I remember going to games and you could pick your seat after buying cheap seats. Even on days like bat day they would have tons of empty seats.

I don't really understand what you mean by "signature" team. Plenty of teams have been around for as long as the Yankees, with just as storied histories.
