Walker caught the long bomb to the 1. Scott Dierking then ran it in. Mehl then picked off Plunkett, 2X

I would prefer that history did not repeat itself, I would rather win the AFC championship :)

That's a good one. We should have kept Michaels and let Walton leave, we still had the players. In those days we'd have kept them, too, Walton couldn't have brought McNeil or anyone with him like Rex did.

That divisional round game vs the Raiders in LA is in my avatar.

Yeah, but the similarity ends in Indy as we're in a dome next week.

I thought of this earlier too...kinda wierd. I became a diehard Jet fan that day against the Raiders--and mehl became my fave player... I remember crying my eyes out(i was 12), after duhe broke my heart......and 17-14 today too..crazy. different results next week though! Go Jets!

I was thinking that when they made it 17-14. Hopefully we have a better result in the Championship game:beer:

wouldn't it be funny if they replaced the artificial turf for grass then soaked it to the bone before the game.

How about a water main break soaking the field? Would favor the Jets this time around

I think it would be funnier if someone kidnapped Don Shula, stuffed a firehose down his throat and turned it on full blast.

Its not like Indy's never done the sneaky shit before. Remember "SpeakerGate"? I think the league caught up with them on that one but hey, one has to stay vigilant..

Bottom line, Miami beat us three times that year and both teams had to play on the same field, you have to adapt to win and we didn't.

This game (Jan 24) will surpass that one (Jan 23) by one day as the latest in the calendar year the Jets have ever played into a season. Back then that was late for an AFC Championship Game, the season started a week late for that time in 1982, and after the strike they added a regular season game on Janaury 2, which we lost to the Chiefs--our only non-Dolphin loss that year.

I need to dust off the cobwebs and I can't remember too well, but I recall a game in the 80's, either a playoff game or last game of the regular season, where the Jets were losing very late in the 4th and Richard Todd threw a TD pass to put the Jets up. Can anyone provide clarity or do I have a selective memory?

I think you are thinking of the '81 home game vs. Miami in November.

Probably. That put us in first place after Week 12, at the time the biggest game in years.

That Jets-Raiders divisonal playoff game was the HARDEST HITTING football game I have ever seen in my life. The guys on BOTH teams looked like they were trying to put each others' players in the hospital on every single hit.

I remember my dad saying that he thought Chris Ward was "soft" for allowing Alzado to rip his helmet off and then throw it at him.

Remember the Jerry Holmes hit on the sideline that popped the ball up for an INT? You're right, that game was a street fight.

That was Jerry Holmes channeling his inner Jack Tatum!
