The thing about Henry is it's a miracle he's been this productive the last year or two. With the use he's had in his career it really is a minor miracle he's still playing, let alone being productive. My rationale behind the $15 per for Hall is because he's only on year 4. If they actually put together an honest to goodness WR room and Mason continues to grow, Hall is going to see a lot of open looks in the next 2 or 3 years and will probably be well worth $15mil. The cap is always going up and, within a year or two, $15 for a quality RB will be the norm.
I know we have a lot of cap but 15m is still steep for an RB that has never had a 1000 yard season (run only) and one that looks like he is in decline. Again, we could blame the Jets for stalling his career, and who would ever argue against that tbh PS I agree fully on Henry
In decline is a bit harsh, I think he had the best game he's had in a long time from the eye ball test yesterday. Fumble hurt but he was playing his ass off leading up to that. I think he's not been happy being here (can anyone blame him) but I think with a contract and some hopium draft picks to make him feel like we have a future and he may just be back to prime Breece. Regardless he's way better than anything we have currently and would be invaluable for a rookie QB.
Can we close this thread or rename it to "should we resign Breece Hall?" Now that the deadline is past? To me that's the relevant discussion at this point do we want him here long term?
Personally, I'd like him here. A 3 yr. extension probably has him finish up his career with the Jets. Considering he was gone for all of his 2nd year he's really only on year 3 and, to @NOVAJET's point, he looked pretty darn good yesterday. Not sure what a signing bonus would look like but, as I've said, on or around $15 would take the "sting" off still being on the dreaded Jets. IF the hunt for a QB is actually fruitful, then his skill and experience will be a nice outlet for a young QB. Let's face it, no matter how good a QB is coming out of college, his two best friends are a quality pass catching TE and RB. Both of which, now, the team has with Taylor and Hall.
Maybe to our short term benefit, and naturally our long term detriment, Breece has shown he fumbles in pretty big situations. I know of at least 3 goal line fumbles in the past few years. Well help in negotiations, will hurt when it happens when the Jets are relevant.
How can you not resign him. He has been our only dependable weapon in an otherwise inept passing game. The opposition targets him on every play he is in, yet he produces against a D that knows the pass is not a big threat. Not to mention he finally was used as a receiver thanks to TT for a change and he showed how valuable he can be as a dual threat. He could flourish much more behind a good QB, and may be, just maybe, this CS will eventually figure out that taking him out on most third down plays is dumb as hell.
When you look at the young RBs that have come out the last two years they make Breece look average. Lets shoot for one of those and not resign Breece. Shoulda traded him when he had value.

Again, he's been no Barkley or Henry type, ever.

His stats aren’t really down though. He has his highest yards/game and second most yards/carry in his first four years. He also has converted his most rushing first downs. If you’re bringing in a rookie QB to play you make a push to sign Breece (if he’s not going to be a douche) or you make a huge push to get a free agent runningback ala Tyler Allgeier. You don’t want a rookie QB back there with an inexperienced backfield. In normal years I’d say nah, but the Jets have plenty of money next year and an enormous amount more in 2027. If you structure it right, you can pay Breece handsomely for two years and make him cuttable in 2028 right before his projected decline. This all hinges on if he is going to want to come back or see if he can get equal or slightly less on the open market in a better situation. I think the latter is true but we’ll see.
OTOH - This is supposed to be a really deep and talented draft at RB. Jets could get a potential stud on Day 2, especially with 2 2nd rounders. But yeah, I see your point that they should be able to afford him, maybe even overpay him a bit and get a few more productive years.

Not to mention I believe he leads the league in running against stacked boxes, way easier to run when your QB isn't garbage and they don't run blitz every play.
IMO. His stats are not really down. He is around 10 in total yards in a team with zero passing game making his job near impossible. LOL. He is forth with 7 runs over 20 yards. He is arguably better than many in the passing game as a receiver but it goes no where without a QB. If there is a short coming in my view is probably red zone and TDs. I’m not saying he is top four but behind a good QB will be right up there. He is a first in a long time with that versatility and sure wouldnt want to spend a first rounder on another.
