we can build space easy. clady restructers, harris gone, richardson traded, breno gone. thats about 22 mil in space right there. if we let go of thompkins now plus the 1.4 mil space we have now, when it carries over we will start next year at 0 instead of negative. Our young RTs can't be worse then breno at that point. we just drafted lee and extended henderson to play ILB, and williams takes over the DE role opposite of wilk.
I see your point and yes we can create space ... but Clady is in the last year of his contract next season so I doubt he can restructure ... even if we let him go the LT position will cost us btwn 7 and 10 mil unless Ijalana steps up ... Sheldon isn't getting traded, not until at least 2018 ... Harris will probs be back on a vet min deal ...
Clady will make 10.5 mil next year on the last year of the deal. only 500k of it can't be moved. that leaves 10 million. We can extend him out (say 3 years 30 mil) but make 15 mil a signing bonus 2mil salary for 2017, 5 mil salary for 2018 and 8 mil salary for 2019. Doing that he gets 15 mil upfront next year (17 mil total) instead of only 10 million, and counts only 7 mil against the cap saving us 3 million. His cap for 2018 would be 10 mil, and 2019 would be 13 mil. by 2019 we can restructure again or cut him and have 5 mil in dead money. By that time a lot of high paid players like revis, mangold, and marshall will probably be gone or be really cheap in limited roles plus fitz will be gone and we'll have a young cheap QB (hopefully hack) so we'll have room to spare. That was y idea in clady restructuring to save 3 mil Sheldon will be traded. No reason to let him play out the final year at 8 mil when we have wilk and wlliams. we already have an amazing DE in williams cheap who can't see the field that much. we have too many good DEs We can get at least a 2nd rounder for him (maybe even a late first) and save 8 mil of much needed cap money without a huge drop off at the position. If we keep him, he will likely be gone in 2018 anyway and only get us at best a 3rd round comp pick. we wont be able to franchise him at the 18+ mil it'll cost us in 2018 I doubt harris takes a minimum deal, but he could take a pay cut to stick around and save us a few million, but no way we keep him at 6.5 mil when we have 3 young cheaper LBers who were all high picks (1 1st rounder, 2 3rd rounder) and a solid vet in henderson who we just resigned.
Decent Qbs never hit the market. It's extremely rare and only in cases of injury (brees) or age (manning). Either way it's a gamble to spend that much money. We'll likely resign fitz who will cost us 12 mil on the cap (and 5 mil in 2018) just like we did this year.
