Sanchez did not get it done last year. Marginal improvement in some stats does not change that.

Tebow is an effective runner bc lined up in the QB position you also have to play defense for the pass. I see Tebow as a very mobile quarter back that can scramble out of the pocket, create missed tackles and plow defenders when he reaches the 2nd level. This motherfucker is big and he has crazy eyes when running the football. BEWARE he can run and when you bite he can pass.

Where Sanchez was well-coached and supported he improved substantially. The Jets Red Zone offense as an example was superior. That's because the coaching in that area not being dependent on Brian Schottenheimer for a change was superior. The talent for the Red Zone offense was also superior as it was the one area where Plaxico Burress was still capable of giving a strong performance.

Defenses tend to drop people back in coverage instead of blitzing when the opponent is near the goal line. This allowed the pass protection in that area to be average.

Overall the Jets Red Zone offense last year was well-coached with good talent available and the systemic pass protection weakness minimized. As a result Sanchez took a big step forward in that area over the course of the year.

Never really thought about it like that, But now that you mention it the only thing that did work, ( and the only thing that saved our offense from sinking farther to the bottom of the league ) was the part of our Offense that had a "consultant".

ie/ Shotty had nothing to do with it.

The article is being kind to Greene. I heard Cosell on NFL Radio about two weeks ago and he absolutely butchered Greene. He said he went back and watched every one of Greene's downs on film. He said that Greene consistently missed the holes and had no ability to move the pile or brake tackles. He believes Greene is living off his reputation from the 2009 post season.

This article is stupid and the perception of Greene is silly right now.

Since when is 5.0, 4.1, 4.2 YPC a bad thing in this league? Are you kidding me?

Who fucking cares if he isn't the flashy dynamic runner that some teams have, he gets the job done and he is productive. That is all you can ask for, especially in this offense.

People are acting like this kid is the worst RB in the league, it's just stupid.

There was a lot of things to point the finger at with how the team played last year and Greene made his fair share of mistakes but the kid is hardly the problem. Not even close.

Our offensive line wasn't nearly as good from the previous two years and he still managed to get over a 1,000 yds rushing last year. That is productive, especially running behind that line.

    This just blows my mind.

I have no argument with this at all. At the QB position Tebow is a very effective runner. However my point was directed to those Jet fans who think that he'd show the same kind of effectiveness if he lined up as a true RB. Not that I think its going to happen, but some Jet fans think it would work if it did.

He's bulked up and put on 10-15lbs since last season as well.

He's not the worst but there it is worthwhile to ask whether he has the skills to be the #1 RB in a run-oriented offense. Not a great runner, not a great blocker and can't catch a ball. It wouldn't be a problem that he's an average RB (at best) but in a run-oriented offense we need more than average. Hopefully he comes out of TC ready to go but if not maybe he ends up behind McKnight.

Too many people think QB and RB are the only positions on offense, so they get the lionshare of blame every time. It's another article repeating the same generic nonsense.

I refuse to believe the Jets are really planning to use Tebow as a conventional halfback.

Feed Greene the rock, if he can stay healthy, he'll be fine.

Sanchez' game improved overall. His talent level dropped around him so he couldn't exactly prove that, but the fact that his stats got marginall better showed improvement. Until week 15, his improvement was clear. He had a string of 3 bad games and all of a sudden "Sanchez regressed" articles and fan started to surface.

Greene is a very good running back and above average in this league as a true runner. Greene lacks the ability to catch passes out of the backfield and his blocking on pass, while improved, is still below average. Where Greene excels at carrying the football late in games and late in season; protecting the football and giving us production avg 4+ yds per carry.

I am confident that with a combination of these younger backs (Mcknight, Tebow and new kid from Butler) pounding the rock in the first half, Greene will punish defenses in the second half. People say he didn't push the pile, well the guy was injured for most of the season and was still very productive.

The games I like to think of when we talk about Greene are the Raiders 2009, Bengals post season 2009, Chargers post season 2009, Colts post season 2009 (until he got injured) he was like 5yds per carry that game, Vikings 2010, Patriots post season 2010, and then last season from November on he was 4+ yds per carry in every game except Denver (he was injured). Schotty is a MAJOR reason why Greene didn't have 1,300+ yds last season.

He really is a 1-2 puncher and one hell of a knock out puncher. Tebow, Mcknight and kid from Butler need to make a name for themselves and help Greene get into his groove. Ground 'n pound & defense & play-action is the name of the 2012 Jets.

Greene really will not be ok if just fed the rock. First of all the odds on him staying healthy all season if the Jets really lean on him are low. Secondly, he really is not that good a runner. He's a good change-of-pace when the other team has been worn down some but he's given us maybe 3 games in 3 years that suggest he's capable of leading the charge and in a very important game in Indy at the end of 2009 he broke down.

I'd love for Greene to be the answer but the odds are he's just another question, like so much of the talent on that side of the ball.

What concerns me as much as anything about him is the low energy way he gets up after he's just run the ball. Too often he'll throw in some wincing or something that suggests he got hurt. He looks low energy/too fragile.

    http://football.razzball.com/running-backs-yards-per-carry

    Arian Foster ( Breakout ): 659/3097 4.7ypc
    Shonn Greene ( Bust ): 546/2360yds 4.32 ypc
    LaDainian Tomlinson ( HOF ): 3174/13684yds 4.31ypc

People really need to get a grip. Shonn Greene will be fine. Behind a destroyed O-Line, with a OC that would rather play to the opponents weakness then play to his teams strengths he's still managing to keep pace with most of the active backs right now in YPC ( 23 of top 50 YPC ). If you really need more reassurance, Which apparently you do, Please take note of the following stat: In the passed 3 years,.. yes 3 years ( including 6 playoff games ) The JETS are 16-3 when Greene gets 15 or more carries. 16-3,... let it sink in... 16-3... 15 or more carries. How Shotty was not able to figure this out and get this guy the ball blew my mind week in and week out. Please note I've also added the 2 playoff losses ( to Pit and Ind ) Shonn Greene was given a total of 19 touches in those two games despite boasting a 5 YARDS PER CARRY average over those 2 games.

Can we ( the fans ) please support someone on our team rather then just putting them down all the time without basis.

First off, no one is calling Greene a bust. Second, please take a look at 20+ and 40+ yard runs for the three you compared.

Greene is what he is, and that should never be compared to the two backs you listed.

I fail to see the difference between 1 20yd run and 3 stuffs and 4 5 yard runs. It's still 5ypc.

I wasn't saying he is as good as either of those backs, Just simply pointing out that he's not the worst back in the league as some people here would lead you to believe. I'm 100% ok with Greene being what he is if "what he is" is a 4+ ypc back that wins games. I just don't see why people have such a problem with him. He's been one of our most productive players when given the opportunity.

You don't see the difference between game changing plays that flip field position or score points and a bunch of solid runs? Have you ever watched a game of football?

Yes I've watched a game of football. Come on, lets not get in a pissing match here.

If greens "bunch of solid runs" wasn't winning games I would agree with you. But it's obvious when this guy gets touches, he wins games.

I think having a guy plow through your D-line for 5+ yards every time he touches the ball can be just as demoralizing / game changing if not more so then a guy who breaks off a big run on a missed tackle. Specially if as the game wears on and he's able to bump that up to 6 and 7 YPC against wore down defenders.
