Mo's contract and his play thus far makes a trade for anything close to market value impossible. If teams were wary of his production coming off an injury, nothing that they've seen up to this point has settled those concerns. Based on what he did before this season, I am willing to give him more time to let the CS figure out a way to better utilize all three of them. People saying to trade him for a 1st are not being realistic. There is no team doing that this offseason when they were reluctant to do it last year when he put up much better numbers. Granted, his injury was a factor, so that reluctance wasn't based solely on production. Sheldon is an amazing talent, who's motor is non-stop, but the off the field issues are a factor. How much? Who knows, but any team is going to investigate him thoroughly before pulling the trigger knowing that a premium price is going to be paid AND a contract as well. IMO, his off-field issues are the reason that Wilk got the deal. If no such off-field issues existed with Sheldon I believe that Mo would've been traded for something below a 1st or allowed to play out his franchise and walk away this season. Again, fair market value for Sheldon is dicey based on that, nothing to do with on-field production or injuries. The cleanest trade involving any of those three is Williams. IMO his value and upside is higher than Sheldon's, so keeping him is a must. I could see Williams become a home grown Kris Jenkins at some point. Not an easy decision, but this is what Mac is paid to do - and he HAS to be right. There are so many holes all over this roster that it's imperative to utilize an asset to try and help an area of greater need.
jftr, Was at the game and felt like he had a really good game... when I rewatched it, he fukin beasted this week!!
Sheldon is definitely a beast. That was never under dispute. He also was stupid enough to drive more than twice the speed limit in a weed-smelling supercar with a loaded weapon and a 12 year old on board, and when the cop lights flashed, he drove into a residential neighborhood, pulled into someone else's driveway and sat there with the lights on, thinking he was home free. He's a very good football player. He's also a fucking idiot. You don't gamble on that level of stupid.
We really didn't need to draft Williams as we were set on the DL. Now we got too much money tied up in that DLine and for the good of the team, we're gonna have to move Sheldon at some point. This is gonna bite us in the ass down the road when Sheldon becomes an perennial pro bowler for another team. Ah, the darkside of BPA need be damned....
I believe that he way Mo's deal is set up it has the option of a break with little dead money at the end of next year. This is I suspect to allow Mac space to deal with this issue. We've taken up Sheldon's option for next year and can then tag him the year after. At that point 3 into 2 won't go and one of the three will be gone. Williams will have finished his rookie deal and we will almost certainly be taking up his fifth year option. If Sheldon stays clean I think he will prove to be the better player and Mo will be released. If Sheldon proves to be the head case that many think he is then he will be the one going. I can't see us trading either at any point.
Considering everything we have the option to let Mo and Sheldon play together for I believe two more years (correct me if I'm wrong) and then one of them will get their walking papers with little to no cap ramifications. This is even with Mo's contract because the third year is only guaranteed for injury . So we have two years to decide between Mo and Sheldon... Williams isn't going anywhere. However, if a team is interested enough to give up decent compensation for Sheldon, (at least a first round pick) now we should jump on that. We need to rebuild and two first round picks could mean trading up for a franchise QB, or at least adding pieces to other areas of our team besides just D-line.
Basically, yes. I think Mo's salary for 2018 becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2018 league season and until then is only guaranteed for injury. The dead money on the contract is $9 million if we release him at that point. I doubt anyone is offering us a first for Sheldon at this point though - 2 suspensions in 2 years and one strike away from missing a full year.
You may be right, but he has been a solid citizen since the last incident, has played very well on the field, and has a non-stop motor. Those kinds of players are valued and coveted. With his quickness, power, and motor, I'll bet we could get more than you think. Look at all the other players that have screwed up and gotten second chances.
“I think it’ll give me more money. Just to be honest,” Richardson said Friday. “My film don’t lie. You took a three-technique that was drafted in the first round and put him at outside linebacker and he held his own, that’s just building up a resume for that.” http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...aying-linebacker-lead-money-article-1.2849506 This is why we are going to have to trade this guy if they aren't going to commit to playing him on the line. Half of anything in sports is "near abouts' to nothin".
Painfully obvious when he said he and Mo both deserve Suh money. Trade Sheldon to the Browns, he'll get plenty of money there.
Suh doesn't deserve Suh money and Mo doesn't deserve Mo Money. Shelly, much to his chagrin, definitely isn't going to get either.
Trading away practically their best player on the field for whatever, not a good thing. That means one-less play-maker and one more player for them to guess for a replacement on draft day. If trading Sheldon doesn't merit at least a young star player in return, a draft pick is only going to make it more difficult to recover the loss.
Can you blame them? He's talking about making more money from playing LB. Hopefully, someone will be willing to give us a 2nd round pick. If so, Mac should take it immediately.
