    I agree 100% here.

In related news, remember that 1997 Vikings-Giants playoff game? Dennis Green actually had the Vikings punt while trailing by 9 points with only three or four minutes remaining. I thought it was one of the most mindless moves ever in a football game. The Vikings won the game, 23-22. So, maybe there was a method to Mangini's madness. It just didn't work out whatsoever.

Because the defense played excellent today. The Bears didn't muster up anything on offense. It was a field position game for the most part. And for Mangini to try that at the start of the half where you can finally be confident in your defense to make a stop and you give Chicago that field position?

I don't know if you're calling me on the love for Pennington. But at least the Jets had some drives, they showed SOMETHING, while Chicago showed nothing. Granit, I wasn't confident the Jets would score, but they did move the ball OK and Chad blew away a chance at 3 points.

Dude, the offense scored 0 points. Even without that onside kick, we STILL lose! How can you blame Mangini for expecting his offense to score more than a FG? Heck, to even get a FG? Are you really going to sit there and tell me if not for that onside kick, the Jets win 0-0? Thats absurd, for two reasons. The first is obviously you can't win with that score, the second is we eventually gave up a TD. C'mon, we can't expect the D to be flawless, other teams actually get big plays.

In the first half, the Jets defense absolutely shut down the Bears defense. By giving Chicago the ball on our own 44 yard line, the Bears only needed to get 10-15 yards for a field goal. It absolutely swung the momentum into the Bears' favor, and to argue otherwise is ludicrous.

There's a difference between good coaching and good game management. For example, Herm Edwards is an excellent motivator who has had success with a lot of teams of subpar talent. But as an in game coach? I'll pass on him.

Mangini now has made 2 critical bad decisions that have been huge contributors to Jets loses (the onside kick and going for it on fourth and goal against Indianapolis.) I'm not saying that we should hang the guy, but he has to take more measured risks in the future.

The offense scored 0, that doesn't take away the fact that they still had some nice drives, one getting to the 5 and Chad throwing an inexcusable INT, and on Chad's 2nd INT, they were again in FG range, then again, would Nugent even kick? And again, Chad threw an inexcusable INT that would of been a TD had Chris Baker not make the tackle.

Did I sit here and say the Jets would win 0-0? No we cannot expect the D to be flawless, but having Chicago on the Jets half of the field after the kick was definately not good. I was pretty confident the Jets could of forced a punt had their been a kickoff since they played so well. And to their credit, they still held Chicago to a FG after being at the 3 yard line.

See that one I won't agree with you on this. It's pretty much saying we can't settle for FGs against the Colts, and have to score TDs.

Today's onside kick was bad because the defense played so well in the 1st half. Again, if it was 17-14 Chicago, and they just racked up yards on the Jets, then i'd be alright with it. But the defense was playing great in the 1st half and Chicago gave no indication that they were going to sustain a drive.

    What a ridiculous subject.

I hope this was just a pissed/heat of the moment overreaction, becuase it's just too funny.

    Yep, the staff is suspect.
Because after 10 games, we can evaluate them quite easily.

Oh, and of course, Chad can't win a big game (not like he doesn't have a few under his belt already or anything....oh wait, didn't he just win one last week?)

The league's #1 D obviously has nothing to do with Chad's play either. Oh, and the INT in the endzone wasn't a great play by one of the best LBs in the NFL. Chad's no Manning or Marino, but c'mon!

For the record, I didn't like the onside kick and Chad could have stayed more composed against this D (would have cut down on the overthrows) but please people, relax! The better team won - pretty obvious before and after the game to me who the better team was, nothing to panic about.

The sky is not falling people, settle down and stop making ridiculous proclamations.

It's thinking like this that confuses me. Pennington did not win the game in NE, he just played well enough not to lose it for us. What made him good was his smart play and good decision making. It's been lacking this year and nowhere has it been more obvious then today. His 2 INT's took anywhere from 6-14 points off the board. They KILLED good drives...a rare occurence against a tough D like the Bears.

Basically if CP is not playing mistake free football, he really dosen't have much else going for him. He's smart and makes good calls at the line, but he still has to throw the ball. There in lies the problem. He throws a floater that our recievers usually have to fight for. He often has problems hitting receivers in stride. Even his short passes are often 'off' to one side or another. This guy should be called Chad Doodyton because the only pass he throws with some consistency is 3-5 yard dump off. Anything else is a struggle...I think he might even get Coles killed this year with the traffic he leads him into sometimes.

I don't think were a contender for the SB this year. Maybe a playoff team that will make a bit of noise, but thats about it. I also don't think CP will be our QB in 08', the time I expect us to be legitimate contenders. His arm is shot and it was never that great to begin with.

I don't blame Mangini for trying to win now with the players he deems best available. I will blame him if he sets us back a year or 2 for not developing a young guy that could be our future though. Teams have to go through growing pains sometimes, and playing a young QB can be one of them. Were a game ahead of the Bills and Phins at this point...one more loss and it will be time to make a switch in my opinion.

Here's the deal. The CS made two questionable calls today - the onside kick and punting with 6 minutes left (I myself would have had Nugent kick the FG on 4th and 7 and try to get within one score).

Pennington has not looked good in losses to Cleveland and today (although he was going agains the best defene in the NFL today).

However, the Jets could not run the ball at all in the second half.

To critisize a Jet CS that had an inferior team beat NE on the road and hang toe to toe with the Bears today is absurd.

It is hard to win when a team can't run or stop the run and the Jets still can't do either. The Jets entered the game today 23rd in the NFL on offense and 31st on defense and are 5-5. What do you expect from this team? It is a work in progress. And for those who are expecting the Jets to roll over the next 6 opponents, think again. Houston, Green Bay, Miami, Buffalo and Oakland are all playing much better now then earlier in the year. The CS gets kudos for making this team competitive. I think almost anyone on this board would have taken a 5-5 record at this point if asked before the season started. So stop bitching and let's just watch this team and CS grow up and improve together.

I'm sorry but i'm not going to credit Chicago's defense on Chad's INTs.

Those were horrible. Staring down Baker like a high school QB and it's picked. And his 2nd one was BAD. Who throws running back ACROSS the field like that!?

Horrible INTs and i'm not gonna credit Chicago's D on those INTs. That was all on Pennington. He could of easily thrown it out of the endzone for the 1st one to where it could of been 3-0. And just take the sack or throw it away on his 2nd INT, bad decisions.

If you watch football you will see that every QB has picks and overthrows. Peyton Manning threw two picks against the Cowboys today. Are they looking to replace him. Chad is not going to play mistake free football every single game because no QB can. Most QB's in this leage make stupid decisions when they are under pressure. Luckily we don't usually see that from Chad. So, he makes a mistake, you can't kill him for it. Remember what defense we were facing.

Are you serious with the Manning comparison? Does Manning put up mediocre performances week in and week out? Chad has not had a great game since week 1. His performances have been enough to get by on, but it's starting to catch up. He is having a mediocre season. His numbers are nowhere near Manning's. Manning is a prolific QB, that's why he is allowed to have a bad game. Chad is never great, just "okay", and if he's never going to be better than "just okay", it's hard to accept when he's flat out terrible. Since week 3, Chad has had 6 TDs and 10 picks. Please do not compare him to Manning.

Please...do yourself a favor and don't try to make a CP vs. PM comparison.

You'll lose the argument just in trying to make one.

Next year should be next years last season as the starting qb, i would like him to be the starter for atleast 2 more years after this one to give Clemons alot of time, but if he keeps playing like this he wont get it.The only way i see uds building this team is though the draft i dont really know of any rbs, wideouts d-lineman or linebackers we can get in free agency.

What I don't understand is why you're killing Mangini for the onside kick, and basically underplaying the other mistakes you've obviously listed here. Mangini's call cost the team 3 points, that's it. If you don't have the faith in your offense to score even 3 points how do you expect to win the game? I really don't understand. Even without the onside kick, the Bears would have won 7-0. Why not kill pennington for the INT on the drive right after? If the Jets score there, even with a FG, I don't see how the onside kick even matters.

If the Jets recover the onside kick, WE get the short field and probably get the 3 points. The Jets showed that they weren't going to score on offense any other way, so I think that's the argument for why it was a good call. Mangini basically KNEW this offense wasn't going to get it done in the second half, he took the risk and tried to at least go for a 3-0 win. Risky as hell, but better than the alternative of never even having a chance to win. Yeah, the Bears scored that TD afterwards, but if we knew we couldn't even score 3 points, then we weren't going to score 7 either. Mangini is going to get killed for that call, but Pennington deserves the blame. The rest of the offense showed up, the O-line and WRs especially, but even Leon in pass blocking and Cedric Houston had a decent game in terms of running the ball. I just don't see how you can blame anyone besides Chad for this game.

I don't know whether Chad is the right QB long term for this team; not sure Mangini and Tannenbaum do either, given that they were ready to cut him loose before the season injury or not.

That said, I would start "questioning" the regime and Chad if they lose to Houston next week; losing to Chicago in a game they were in for 4 quarters seems to me like a reach. Count me as one who was hopeful that they would be 5-5 at this point in the season. I thought they'd beat Cleveland, and then go 0-2 vs. NE and CHI. Well, they still came through the stretch 1-2.

I'm sorry I can't agree with ya 3rd. I would have started Clemens, but it's way too far into the season to bench Pennington, ESPECIALLY against that defense. He's average, we've always known that. At times he's better than average, at times worse.

The coaching staff is doing a fine job as far as I'm concerned. We were the only team to rack up over 300 against the bears, and you can put the blame on the O-line for not protecting Pennington. Or you can say, wow the O-line did a pretty solid job against the bears. The first interception he was about to be hit, and he forced it.

I don't care if the CS pulls out some wacky shit, Parcells does it all the time. When you have the personnel you can do that stuff. Right now I see no point avoiding the effort of the wacked shit.

I do agree punting was kinda useless. We know Pennington can't run a 2 minute drill to save his life.

I disagree, he was under pressure ont he first one and he forced the throw. There was no time to stare down the receiver.

From the looks of it, Urlacher was staring right into Penningtons eyes. Pennington telegraphed that pass. Even Joe frigging Buck could see that.

I don't understand this whole questioning the regime thing. What is there to question? They're only ten games in and the Texans game is not a slam dunk. Unless you mean questioning their decision to stick with Chad this year. In that case I would have to disagree as well, because now is not the time to make a QB switch. It's amazing, Mangini was king of the city after last week, and now people are question the regime.
