Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor has fallen into a coma following surgery for a life-threatening gunshot wound suffered early Monday morning at his South Miami home, FOXSports.com has learned. Taylor "flatlined" twice during the surgery, the NFL Network reported. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7490604 It's obviously going to be a night where he either makes it or doesn't. If he survives the night he has a chance but it doesn't look good right now.
Wow this is really awful. When I first heard the reports I didn't really think he would probably be in this bad shape especially after reading the "it's not life-threatening" quote someone posted here, but a coma is obviously really really bad. Not to get too pessimistic but it is just makes me sick that a healthy 24 year old may loose his life over something so stupid as whatever that person was trying to steal. From what's been written on espn and foxnews and whats been said here it really sounds like the next 12 hours are crucial, so hopefully things improve fast.
From the sound of things...it doesn't look good. If he flat lined TWICE during surgery, and now he's fallen into a coma, Taylor may be brain dead. I really hope that he pulls through, because he's not just one of the best young players on defense in the NFL, he's a father. It just isn't looking good for him right now and it's sickening.
Sean Taylor didn't come from a bad neighborhood. His father is a police officer, and a pretty high ranking one as well. At UM he lived up to the 'thug lifestyle' even though he never lived in the low rent neighborhood many of his teamates did. He defintely reminds me of a guy that acted 'badass' all the while daddy was there to bail his sorry ass out of trouble. Once a punk. Always a punk. Grow up dude...
Someone broke into the mans house and shot him, and now he's fighting for his life. Have some fucking compassion for a felow human being. Jesus Christ man.
Mort said that he talked to Daniel Snyder and Snyder said the doctors were cautiously optimistic now. They said they asked him to squeeze a doctors hand and he was able to do that.
This post is nothing more than a pile of shit. If i recall correctly, he was not arrested until after he graduated college, long after he was emancipated from his father, who did not ever have to bail him out of trouble when he was a kid. You remind me of a dork who thinks they are a badass behind a keyboard. Grow up dude! -------------------------------------------------------- Redskins S Sean Taylor is currently in a responsive state. He is considered to be in stable but still critical condition. This is the first good news of the day concerning Taylor's status. VP of Football Operations Vinny Cerrato said those at the hospital were told to wait and "hope for a miracle," and that when Taylor was able to squeeze his hand, doctors "were very happy about that." ESPN's Chris Mortensen says owner Daniel Snyder is "cautiously optimistic" about Taylor's condition. Source: Washington Post
this is horrible. it'll be a minor miracle if he survives and doesn't suffer brain damage. His playing career is almost certainly over which is a big blow to the Redskins.
Here is the police report of the break-in from last week. it is in adobe pdf format. http://media.miamiherald.com/smedia/2007/11/26/15/taylor_policereport.source.prod_affiliate.56.pdf
Full disclosure here - I always did think of Sean Taylor as an example of the typical "Thug U" product. I remember discussing as much with GreenHurricane last year during the Brandon Meriweather shooting event. GH made the point that Brandon was a stand-up guy for defending his friend. I made some sort of comment about how, outside of The U, college students don't need to keep guns in their off-campus houses for protection. And, again, in the spirit of full disclosure I still do think that UM has fostered a certain badass jock profile over the last decade. I think they're making a good strong effort to change the way people like me - right or wrong - view The U. I say all this to point out how my painting with a broad brush isn't entirely fair. Clearly, Taylor was targeted, and clearly it was because he was a high profile athlete with nice things and an enviable lifestyle. If anyone ever need a gun in his house (or, in this case, a machete), it was Sean Taylor. Anyway, I do hope he gets well. Any word on the shooter?
i know that Shannon has prohibited players from owning guns, but that isnt going to help when the other guy has one. I believe Taylor is currently on probation and couldnt have a gun, which is why he probably only had a machete. You know the old story about bringing a knife to a gunfight. Case in point. But had he shot the intruder in self defense, he'd still be seen as a Thug. i really dont give a crap anymore about the perception people have because the school is running the program into the ground. Miami will not be an elite team again, and that hurts CFB, just like when Notre dame is bad it hurts CFB too. CFB will have to find a new villain, because Miami aint it anymore. So it will come to the point where the program is irrelevant, and then people wont have to bitch about its image anymore. But I'll bet you didnt know that a bunch of CFB players have been arrested this year, and NONE of them attended Miami. The media just doesnt care. They arrestees attended, Florida, FSU, Louisville, OSU, Penn State (PSU has had more players arrested than any other major school), Michigan state, LSU. The charges ranged from burglary to soliciting prostitutes to assault and battery to sexual battery, robbery, sexual assault...I have the stories linked somewhere. But did the media play it up and blow it up? Uh-uh. You think it would have been a bigger story if these guys went to Miami? damn right. But that's the way it goes. So now they will clean up the image, but wont hire a competent CS or fix up the facilities, and wont even play in the orange bowl anymore, because Shalala thinks she is going to turn the school into the Harvard of the South. What a fucking dyke troll we have running the school. The football program is being dismantled piece by piece, but you'll be happy to know that you wont be seeing the likes of players like Ed Reed, Kellen Winslow, Sean Taylor and Clinton Portis playing there anymore. At this point, I know the Jets have Elam, who has a conviction for sexual assault, and Ratliff, who has a conviction for some drunken stupid stuff he did. Coles was as big a thug as there ever was at FSU. Are you happy about that? Do you care? Or is it a double standard that doesnt apply to your team?
Here are a couple of stories you probably didnt hear about, but I'm sure espn would have made it into a big deal if the players went to Miami. Penn St. RB Austin Scott charged with rape, assault By GENARO C. ARMAS, AP Sports Writer October 12, 2007 STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Suspended Penn State running back Austin Scott is charged with raping a woman at his campus apartment after meeting her at a bar. Scott was arraigned Friday on charges of rape, sexual assault and two counts of aggravated indecent assault, all felonies, in connection with the Oct. 5 encounter. According to court papers, Scott told investigators the woman did not initially want to have sex. Scott declined to comment as he left the courtroom Friday. "The interaction he had with the woman involved was consensual, and we anticipate we will be able to prove that in court," Scott's attorney, Joseph Amendola, said. "Very optimistic. We're looking forward to the opportunity of establishing his innocence." Authorities said the encounter occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 5. Coach Joe Paterno suspended Scott later that day, and the school announced the next day the tailback had violated an unspecified team rule. ADVERTISEMENT Scott remains enrolled at Penn State. "As with the case with any sexual assault, we consider it a matter adjudicated by the court, and we can't get into details at this point," university spokeswoman Lisa Powers said. Scott also faces three misdemeanors: two counts of indecent assault and one count of simple assault. He was released on $50,000 unsecured bail and ordered to stay away from the alleged victim. Scott is still on the roster but still suspended, team spokesman Jeff Nelson said Friday. "As coach Paterno stated earlier this week, he has not participated with the team since the end of last week and we do not have any further comment at this point," Nelson said. A preliminary hearing for Scott was scheduled for Wednesday. Scott, a fifth-year senior, ran for 302 yards and six touchdowns this season before his suspension last week. He arrived at Penn State in 2003 a highly touted recruit after setting state records of 3,853 rushing yards and 53 touchdowns as a senior at Parkland High School in Allentown. He led Penn State in rushing his freshman year (436 yards), but nagging injuries and other off-field issues kept him lagging on the depth chart. He redshirted last season after being slowed by an ankle injury. ---------- With an impressive win over Iowa hardly a blip on the media's radar, the venerable Penn State coach spent most of his weekly news conference Tuesday dodging questions about the latest round of infractions and alleged misconduct that has been plaguing the program for the better part of the year. Two true freshmen - running back Joe Suhey and punter Ryan Breen - were cited by police for underage drinking last weekend, bringing the number of Nittany Lions players cited for that to four in the last two months. Also on Tuesday, Paterno confirmed he has been alerted that "a couple of football players" may have been among the five to 10 people reportedly involved in a Saturday night brawl at the student union building on campus. So far, the only player punished for off-the-field behavior heading into this Saturday's game against Wisconsin remains running back Austin Scott, the former starting tailback who was suspended last Friday for violating an undisclosed team rule. article: http://www.citizensvoice.com/site/ne...d=460522&rfi=6 --------------------------------- Three Spartans charged with robbery MSU coach Dantonio says trio will continue to play EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Starting linebacker SirDarean Adams, starting cornerback T.J. Williams and one other Michigan State football player have been charged with unarmed robbery stemming from an April incident in the parking lot of a store, authorities said. Adams, Williams and reserve Jeremy Ware each were arraigned Wednesday in 55th District Court in Mason on a felony robbery charge, the court said, and Williams also was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery in the April 21 incident in Meridian Township near East Lansing. The court record didn't indicate whether they entered pleas or were represented by lawyers, but a pretrial hearing was set for Oct. 30 on the robbery case. --------------------------------------- BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Backup LSU linebacker Derrick Odom was charged with a misdemeanor Wednesday, accused of smashing a car window after a brawl at a nightclub last week. Soon afterward, coach Les Miles announced he was being kicked off the team. Odom faces one count of simple criminal damage to property, according to Baton Rouge police. He was involved in a fight at The Varsity nightclub near LSU's campus early Friday, left the club and was caught on video when he returned an hour later and smashed an SUV window, police said. A call to Odom's lawyer, Anthony Bertucci, was not immediately returned. Miles said Odom, of Jackson, Miss., was dismissed as was walk-on linebacker Jeremy Benton, of The Clown. "Our involvement is not to be condoned. There are a number of people at fault here, including our guys and their judgment," Miles said. Odom and backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux, who was also in the fight, were barred from practice this week. Perrilloux, meanwhile, will remain on the team but will not play Saturday, when No. 3 LSU faces No. 17 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Miles said. He said that decision was made because Perrilloux, a sophonore, has missed the "lion's share" of practice this week. "Beyond that time, Ryan will be back as we prepare for our remainder of the season. That is how this thing has ended, and I want to go forward from here," Miles said. Perrilloux was not charged in the brawl. In September, Odom was arrested for the second time in less than a month, accused of damaging an LSU student's vehicle. Miles suspended Odom for three weeks in August, after the linebacker was arrested for damaging another LSU student's vehicle and threatening the student. On Aug. 27, Odom apologized to the victims of the August incident and agreed to pay restitution. ------------ Gator player charged with burglary By Karen Voyles Sun staff writer 9:33 am, October 2, 2007 A senior on the University of Florida football team was arrested early Tuesday and charged with burglary according to Gainesville Police. ADVERTISEMENT "Clearly, this was deliberate to hurt him, and you succeeded," Weld County District Judge Marcelo Kopcow told Cozad as he announced the sentence. -------------------------------- Updated: September 21, 2007, 4:25 PM ET Comment Email Print TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State suspended two football players Friday after they were arrested in a bar fight that resulted in felony charges against one of them. Junior linebacker Geno Hayes and senior fullback Joe Surratt were arrested early Friday at a bar near the Florida State campus, police and school officials said. Police said Hayes had to be subdued with a Taser and Surratt struck a police officer. Surratt, 21, was charged with a felony count of battery on an officer. Hayes, 20, faces three misdemeanor counts: assault on an officer, resisting arrest without violence and disorderly conduct, Tallahassee police spokesman David McCranie said. Both players were released on bail Friday, officials said. --------- COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio State's third-team quarterback Antonio Henton was arrested on a charge of soliciting a prostitute. The 20-year-old Henton entered a not guilty plea Tuesday in Franklin County Municipal Court to the misdemeanor charge. Lara Baker, chief prosecutor in the city's attorney's office, said the soliciting charge carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and $1,000 fine, but generally results in a small fine. Henton, a redshirt freshman, was arrested by Columbus police Monday night near campus. Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said Henton will not travel to Minnesota for Saturday's game. ------------ Maurice Clarrett, another shining example of the ohio state university. Marcus and Michael Vick, really nice guys from VT. ----------------------- Elam- got kicked out from Notre Dame Ratliff, from utah... Coles, didnt graduate from FSU. People are delusional if they think the thug problem is limited to one school. But the media continues to shape people's perceptions of everything from the war in Iraq to CFB to elections, the economy...there is truth and there is perception, and they arent necessarily the same thing.
Rather than start going after "thugs" is there anything new on taylor's condition? is he still touch and go? I hope he is starting to pull through. What happened last year with the Broncos was just a mess, and it doesn't need to happen again. I vote for more gun control. You should have to pass a pysch eval to own a gun.
I've actually heard about all of those stories...mainly because I'm a big college football fan. This isn't a "Thug Hunt" or a "We hate Miami" thread, this is a thread about a rising star in the NFL that was gunned down in his home for unknown reason and he is clinging to life. Go argue about The U in the NCAA forum, because no one in here should give a shit about which team has the worst players...to come in here and argue about such meaningless stuff is ridiculous. Sean Taylor was shot and his life is in danger. That's what they should be thinking about in THIS thread.
That's fine but my bet would be that the person who shot Taylor didn't gain access of the gun in legal ways. A friend of my wife had her home robbed 3 weeks ago and among the items stolen was a handgun that her roommate did not have a permit for. Do you think he is going to report that to the police? Not to go off on a rant but this was the most recent info I could find in a brief search but this was in 1997. I know statistics ave worsened since too but the US was far and away the leader in firearm deaths of rich nations For example, in Germany there were 1.81 homocides for every 100,000 deaths and 1/2 those were from firearms In Japan .60 homocides and .003 by gunfire In Australia 2.46 homocide and .56 by gunfire Spain 1.58 homcide .19 by gunfore In the US 8.95 homocide and 6.24 by gunfire, the nations in the same zip codes are Zambia 10.74/5.72 , Trinidad and Tobago 9.48/3.42 Jamaica 31.60/18.23 and nobody touched South Africa with it's eye popping 64.64/26.63 rate. All that being said this is really a sad day for the sports world and it goes to show no matter how rich and famous you are there is going to be people that are willing to risk it all to take it away from you. Sometimes people really make me sick. You look at a baby and you wonder how something so innocent can grow into a monster but there you go. Look no further than this case to see how bad certain people can be.
For once, I have to agree with you. Keep this thread on track. I hope Taylor gets well. Please keep the gun control and the "OMG, Miami is thug U" in other more appropriate threads and forums.
