No. I think the Jets defense will rattle Brees and the Saints won't be nearly as free-scoring as they have been. That said, I don't think the Jets can win with 10 or 13 points. I think 24 would do it, but that's just a hunch. And I don't really care if it's 3-0 or 51-45 in OT, as long as it's a win.
Relax, Mr. E, unless it's blatant repetition or just stupid gibberish, don't jump on the thread starters. Let the mods do our jobs.
Nope. I believe that we're gonna tear them a new one. This is a game that will set the tone for the rest of the season. For both teams.
How about this for a new wrinkle in the running game... Run OUTSIDE instead of up the gut every time.. Perhaps an occasional sweep with TJ. What about running TRich up the middle instead of TJ... How about running LEFT instead of RIGHT all the time? Cmon Brian, instead of opening up with a run into the pile, why not a playfake. Shotts used to be pretty good at confusing defenses. Then slowly under Mangina, he started to get a bit predictable. Against the Saints, he'd better use all of his guile and think outside the box instead of following his genes and play MartyBall..
Agreed. This had been a problem throughout Shotty's whole stay. We need to throw the ball deep 30+ yards at least 4 times a game. So what if it gets picked. It is like a punt. And we will have soo much more room to run.
yeah, one conference 8 or 9 wins gets you a division crown. the other, 11 wins and you can START talking wild card.
The winner or loser of this game is going to be determined while our defense is on the field against Drew Brees. Game-planing to have our rookie QB bomb it out to our nonexistent big play receiver is ridiculous. We need to have our offense do what it does best: run the ball with our O-Line, create mismatches with Keller and Washington, short + medium passes to Stuckey and Cotchery with their high YAC, and you can set up a couple PA big plays. Our offense can't lose this game for us, our defense needs to win this game for us.
No - you pass on 1st down to set up the run. Otherwise the D puts 8 in the box and you get the same result as last week - a bunch of 3rd and longs. Mix it up and you keep them guessing and they won't be able to stack the box.
1. Saints do have a good run D than you all might be thinking. Running on them won't exactly be a walk in the park. You've been warned. Chances are, Jets running attack will be similarly anemic unless they step it up. It's a huge test, as Saints D also ranks within top 10, be it against nobodies. 2. They have a premier pass rushing DE unit, with a competent DT combo - which makes Vilma's job that much easier. Their CBs and FS are more of a liability than their front 7. This means running on them won't be particularly easy - which I raised in #1, as a matter of fact. 3. I do think, however, their OLBs (Fujita/Shanle) are a bit on the slow side. All things combined... it directs to one thing - short passing attack that revolves around Leon, Stuckey and Keller. (#1) and bubble screen pass after inviting the pass rush, ideally with the receiver being Leon. I think this has to be the focal point of where the attack starts. Once the defense spreads out thin to cover the short passes, that's when Jets start pounding the middle. Or... since I also think their CBs are suspect when it comes to vertical speed, play action fake with Clowney streaking down the field looks like a very viable option to me.
Keeping a good mix on the offense without the pitfalls of becoming predictable would make me happy. Against the Titans we started to fall into that rut and it resulted in the slew of three and outs. We have the talent to keep them guessing as we did in the first two games. We need an offensive game plan to limit our defense's time spent on the field but without forgetting the need to put up points. Unless the Saints spent little time preparing for the Bills and had the Jets on their minds, their play against the Bills wasn't too impressive.
