first possessions of the 3rd qtr I am w/ you but check out the 1st half? we made some mistakes in the 3rd qtr and then fell behind double digits and kind of had to throw.

Truth hurts junc - the fact of the matter is Schotty called a shit game.

The point though is we should have never ran away from the running game. I do like that the Jets had a sense of urgency after the half, but you don't go away from what's working for you.

We weren't down 3 scores - and the game was still in the balance.

At the end of the 3rd quarter, we went into straight panic mode and started throwing the ball like crazy - that decision led to an interception by Sanchez and another score by the Giants.

    3:56 left in the 3rd

1st and 10 at NYJ 19 S.Greene left end pushed ob at NYJ 32 for 13 yards (C.Webster).
    1st and 10 at NYJ 32 M.Sanchez pass incomplete short right to S.Holmes (C.Webster).
2nd and 10 at NYJ 32 (Shotgun) M.Sanchez pass short middle to D.Keller to NYJ 38 for 6 yards (A.Rolle).
3rd and 9 at NYJ 33 (Shotgun) M.Sanchez pass incomplete short right to S.Holmes.

So we run with Greene get 13 yards then proceed to throw 3 straight times?

Look at the play by play and you will see this type of play-calling all over the 3rd and 4th QTR

Basically all I have to say about Schotty is that it isn't his fault that Mark Sanchez regressed. They expected a lot more out of him than he delivered. The big mistake was taking off the blinders in year 3 and letting him operate as a regular throwing Qb. When he imploded his fans blamed Schotty and everyone else on the team except the water boy. Let's get this perfectly straight: Mark had a lot of chances here. Over 60 starts. Not everything was always perfect. The OL at times didn't play well, the receivers not the best caliber, etc. But he did not bring the team up ever. Maybe the Eagles see something in Mark that I don't. Chip Kelly thinks he can still play. But imo if he gets in and tries to operate in that offense it'll be a disaster.

so you wanted to run every single play and you and the others would be the first to whine when we got stuffed saying "why didn't we pass?"

incomplete on 1st down sets up 2nd and 10, usually a passing situation, again if we run and get stuffed and it's 3rd and 9 or 10 you guys would complain "why didn't we pass?"

that 2nd and 10 says we completed a 6 yd pass but it was 3rd and 9, why? false start penalty. so the pas got us a 3rd and 4 which was manageable.

don't leave out key pieces of info.

As far as I am concerned, the Jets weren't getting stuffed at all - our offensive line was dominating the run game. I'm running the ball until they can prove they can stop it. We had the time.

You leave out key pieces all of the time Junc. The point is, when something works you don't run away with it and call the exact opposite.

Schottenheimer used to do things like this all of the time. First down run the ball get 13 yards, 2nd down you run that ball again until they prove they can stop it.

Schotty wasn't great, but he was definitely an easy scapegoat for a flawed offense.

again, if we run and get stuffed folks like you complain they are too predictable. that's what Hackett did and he was hated more than Brian.

Who cares about being predictable? If it's working, it's working you force your will on the opponent.

If you read Collision Low Crossers it talks about how team members/coaches were particularly upset by the number of times Sanchez threw in the Giants game

1st half is more reasonable but there were still a few 3rd and short where it would have been better to run. Again it's hindsight, but the OL wasn't great that year and the Giants DL is a task

yeah the book also referenced how players though Schotty was too complicated at times and how some QBs can just look at the field and see all their receiving options but the offense Schotty had didn't allow that as frequently

You are trying to talk to a wall here. That doesn't work. I tried it more than times I can count. It didn't.

Yeah Junc just wants to revert all of the attention from Schotty and Sanchez.

No, I deal in reality. The D wanted excuses, don't give up a freakin 99 yd TD n 3rd and 10 from the 1 and we win that game.

I agree - it killed any momentum we had. Just a bad team effort all together in a must win game.

We had an awesome first drive that game too.

That play changed that game and the seasons for both teams. we get a stop there we get the ball near midfield and should at least be able to get a FG and go up 10-3, instead we are down 10-7 and the Giants are energized by the longest TD pass possible.

basically, if that play doesn't happen and we win and get in the playoffs everything changes.
