We can blame Favre all you want (he does deserve some), but if the passing game ain't working you step away from it, or change things up. Still had Brett throwing the ball deep down the field. You have to make adjustments. You have to find a way to get the offense in rhythm, as far as I am concerned - Schottenheimer failed. I found the 2008 NYJs to be a very overrated team. Mark was terrible while Brian was here, some playoff games and a few regular season games don't discount the 4 or 5 interception games
Favre's arm was fine, he spent the year throwing balls up for grabs, he did that in Seattle and it didn't work. Mark was good overall while Brian was here, his one bad year was w/ Sparano.
Didn't Favre constantly call audibles at the LOS? I'm pretty sure this was an issue throughout the season. Throwing the ball for grabs resulted in 22 interceptions. 6 of his TDs came from 1 game. I believe he had that injury at the end of the season which was held by the FO - at that point changes to the offense should have been made. You don't abandon the running game. Mark didn't have a good rookie year. He lost games for us single handily, he was not good overall here - no sense in getting into this.
Mark's best year with the Jets was 201o. He was bad in 2009 and esp in 2011. The Jets org made a mistake allowing Mark to open up the offense and get away from the ground and pound. Part of that is on Schotty. His biggest mistake as OC. Mark is too mistake prone and inaccurate to be a regular throwing Qb. His only success was in the g and p. They should have stayed with it
Reverse on a rainy day. Gotta love that call. Hackett wouldn't do anything half as stupid, would he? P.S. Scarier part? This wasn't the lone fumble off reverse. Schottenheimer dialed up this shit AGAIN, and the Jets fumbled AGAIN.
Fuck I remember this shit. Those plays NEVER worked let alone, using Cotchery who isn't the fastest receiver to take the reverse to try and trick the opposition. I would rather draw on 3rd and 9 then a play like that.
Mark was not bad in 2009, he had a good rookie year. he had a few horrendous games which skewed his #s and made people believe he was bad but he was good more often than not. 2010 he was really good. 2011 he was mediocre 2012 he was awful his only bad year was after Brian left. he hurt us most of the year, he had a nice stretch in Oct/Nov and another good game or 2 but he wasn't good most of the season then tanked it late in the year when it got too cold for him. after the Titan game he led us to a 1-4 record w/ the one win coming after he failed and the D recovered a fumble for a TD to beat a bad Buffalo team. In that span he threw 2 TDs, 9 INTs and led our O to 15 PPG including just THREE pts TOTAL in the 4th qtrs. of those 5 games, 4 of which were all w/in reach to win. Den: trailed by 13 entering 4th, scored 0 SF: tied entering 4th, scored 0 Buf: led by 1, scored 3 which wouldn't have been enough if the D hadn't scored a TD late in the 4th to pull it out. Sea: trailed by 7 entering 4th, scored 0. Mia: trailed by 4 entering 4th, scored 0. Favre sabotaged our season. he never wanted to be here, couldn't wait to leave. once things started going downhill he tanked it.
The worst Schotty memory for me, and there are a lot, is Sanchez dropping back what 60+ times against NYG in 2011. Sanchez was never that type of QB and Schotty had 3 years of experience knowing that. Brutal.
we had a million penalties, we were in passing situations most of the game and were trailing most of the 2nd half. The #s look bad on paper, in context they aren't nearly as bad.
Dude it was a 10 point lead at the beginning of the 4th, before Mark's interception (whose fault?). That's no excuse to drop back 60+ times. Even during the 3rd QTR the running game was generating a lot of yards in a 10-7 game. We immediately stopped running the ball and started throwing it like crazy.
we were constantly in passing situations due to penalties or whatever. the # is nowhere near as bad as it looks when you actually examine the game.
Even in context they look bad. The Jets panicked too early. It is what it is. Schotty was inconsistent and Mark is inconsistent and together that was one their poorer games and game plans and play calling.
it wasn't a great game but whether it was 50 or 60 we had to throw a lot that day. I will post more info when I have time.
In the middle of the 3rd QTR we passed when we should have ran. Dialing up those passing plays led to penalties. We were just fine. We were running the ball at 6 to 8 yards a clip they couldn't stop us. We should have ran it all the way down the field.
We averaged 5 YPC that game, but I think the RB were running better since there were a couple QB runs and WR runs. The team started off the 3rd Q like they were down big, not one score. That shifted the game. I call that panicking but maybe it was a strategic decision. If it was strategic, it's easy to see in hindsight, it backfired big time.
our rusn that day: 1st half: 3 1 2 3 1 5 4 5 6 11(in 2 min situation catching D off guard) outside of the 11 yd gain, we ran for less than 4 on 5 of the 9 carries. in the 2nd half we had some nice runs but you can't run it every play and we were down double digits late in the 3rd. runs also led us into some longer situations too. both of our TD drives came from mostly passing. we didn't run it consistently, we set up 2nd and 3rd and longs and we had a million penalties.
Things like this are frustrating: First possession of the 3rd Q down 3: Pass, pass, pass, punt. 2nd possession of the 3rd Q down 3: Run for 5. Run for 8 1st down. Run for 4, 2nd and 6. Sack on pass attempt, incomplete on 3rd down, punt. 3rd possession of the 3rd Q down 3: Run for 7 Run for 6 and 1st down. False start, 1st and 15. Pass for 7. 2nd and 8, holding on a pass play. 2nd and 18, 3rd and 18, two incompletions. Look at our runs so far, why pass if we are being honest. 5,8,4,7,6. Down 3 still: Run for 13 and 1st down 1st down, incomplete. 2nd down, pass for 6. False start, 3rd and 9, incomplete. Down 10 now to start the 4th Incompelte Run for 1 Interception on 3rd down Down 13 now and panic starts to set in. Sanchez fumbled on a 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1 sneak at some point too right? So now we are 5-6 minutes left in the 4th, down 6. No need to panic, 4 minute offense and win the game. Pass, pass, sack, punt. Now down 6 still, sack and safety with 2:20 left. Game over. The Jets OL clearly wasn't playing with their penalties, almost like they were struggling to protect Sanchez on passing plays. The Jets panicked too early and went to the pass game which was much more inconsistent than the run game. So that's why this is a bad Schotty game for me. Didn't play the score or game well in my opinion. It's happened before, but we've also seen the flip side when he's called some fantastic games. He was just inconsistent
