if he is under contract, which he obviously is, the only way he is not coaching here is if the Jets don't want him..
Thats a pathetic way of looking at it. I haven't heard anything like that from him, just speculations. Besides, this guy turned away the HC job in Miami for the Jets. No one turns away their first head coaching job, even if you have to go to Detriot...unless if ur name ends in Garrett or Schotty. Give him credit for not giving up on the Jets. But don't hire simply because he loves the Jets or whatever. I love the Jets too...can I become the GM???
I think letting Schotty go would be a bad move. I would like to see what he is capable of without Mangini.
there's a chance he turned down the Miami job because he thought he would be the next inline to coach the Jets...if something ever happened to Mangini. Who knows what was promised to him or not. And you're right..it's just speculations. But Schefter usually is pretty reliable....and Schotty has only interviewed for the Jets HC position this season....so you would expect him to feel "slighted" if the FO went outside the organization to hire an HC. My personal opinion...he hasn't done anything spectacular to be deserving of the position....and i think it would be "dick move" to strong arm the organization into giving him the position. Not saying that's what's going on here...but if it is INDEED the case...then i'm not on board with it.
Good for you. My old roomate had a similar situation, but the noob ended up as his boss, while my roomate spent the whole time fixing the dude's mistakes. If it wasn't for the alimony, the kids, and the fact that he was still getting a California salary in Florida, he would have done the same.
I wouldn't be crushed if he was around for one more year, but it's do or die for him. If he can't prove that Mangini was holding him back he should be out of here (if he fails in 2009).
Last off season we were acquiring talent. This off season we are unloading coaches. Could be the GM is the problem? Time will tell.
I agree with you. My only point was that I haven't heard him say anything or any report he said something similar. Regardless, he seems to be regarded as a future HC somewhere. Im assuming it was Mangini who was derailing him from his style. He was considered the 'shit' in 06, was ok in 07, and inconsistent in 08. Im not opposed to giving him one more schott. His offense was ranked number 2 last yr for most part of the first 12 wks. If he can keep that up and keep a balance attack along with some Leon touches, I would keep him around. Running on 3rd and 1 falls on the OCs head. But failing to execute on it falls on the offense. Remember when Denver scored that TD on third and short pass? It made Denvers CS look like Gods. If it works, you're the God. If it doesn't, then you're schitt!
the fact that he claims Schottenheimer turned down the Dolphins HC position to stay with the Jets (as opposed to stayed with the Jets because he wasn't going to get the gig to begin with) completely reveals a lack of credibility for the story, and yet no amount of critical thinking about the story has been made before it is actually being discussed as being true. it isn't even being argued as a possibility, you guys are actually wondering why he would do or think such when you don't know that he does? there is nothing about this that doesn't scream speculation.
So now we unload the management next yr??? Perhaps the Owner the following yr??? and perhaps the Fans the yr after??? We were terrible in 07. Not a whole lot of talent to be raging about. It's only logical of doing this. U provide ur CS with the talent and expect results. If u don't get the results, then the problem is the CS, not the talent.
Woody wants to keep Schott as OC because if a new guy is brought in Favre will have to learn a new playbook likely making him lean more towards retirement. And Woody wants Favre back to sell tickets and PSLs or whatever the fuck they're called... Woody doesn't care about winning he cares about making coin.
Go back there, then. Schotty is a douche because it looks like he threw Mangini under the bus now. He has the opportunity to prove that he wasn't the reason the playcalling tanked and sucked ass in 08 under a new HC. But he doesn't want that. He wants to be a HC. Because he has proven so much as a coordinator, right? He'll be HC or he will walk. Fuck this guy. I hope he does walk. He sucks anyway. I wasn't that impressed with him in 2006 and I'm even less impressed after all of this bullshit has leaked about Mangini 'hindering' his playcalling. If he had balls, which he doesn't, there would have been no leak. He would have been a man and kept it to himself and proven his worth under another HC. Instead he does this. Go work with your father, Schotty. See how badly HE fucks with your gameplans. Asswipe.
U know I don't remember Schotty being offered that job couple yrs ago. I assumed he did only because Scheffy reported it.
Unless the talent guy is a contracts lawyer instead of a football man and doesn't really have a handle on the talent. Who was our first pick again?
