furthermore, this is a copycat league. if teams witness the Jets' success from hiring young coaches, they'll take their chances. and if it works out, the trend will continue. i just hope it doesn't happen. cheers
how long is the contract the FO has with him? i can see teams giving him a glance, but he hasnt got much experience....maybe in another year or two. i could see a team maybe giving him a shot (given that hes been successful). but the FO would have to give a team permission to speak with him, right?
Shotty ain't going anywhere this year at least. Mangini got the job because of the NE bloodlines and his connection with Tannenbaum. I can see a lot of teams bypassing retreads for first-time coaches, though. Not that many positions will be open by year's end, but guys like Whisenhunt, Cameron and Rivera could be guys who get their first shot vs. hiring Mike Tice, Mike Mularkey or a Mike Martz.
i think since this is something that would directly affect the jets, it was ok in the jets section. but thats one mans opinion....and im not a mod.
Maybe we have started a trend? No one would have thought mangini after 1 year as a DC would become a HC but we scooped him before he became the hot assistant and maybe other teams will look to do the same after the success we have had?
