So should we just pick up every old DE/OLB from the AFC East? Maybe we can pull Rosevelt Colvin out of retirement.

No. How many quality DE's do we have on the roster? 2? Schobel would be a low risk signing, can't imagine he would want much at all.

They typically don't give too much to guys who aren't going to make the roster.

Currently the DE's we have listed on the roster are:

    Mike Devito
    Shaun Ellis
    Vernon Gholston
    Jason Lamb (love this guy)
    Ropati Pitoitua
    Rodrique Wright

With the role the DE plays in our D, I'm fine with these guys.

Schoeble is a 263lbs pass rusher with diminished strength. If he had a shot at a roster spot it would be as an OLB a la Jason Taylor's new role.

Aside from Taylor taking any hope he had of making the roster, adding Schoble and having him make the roster would most likely only lead to the Jets diminishing their ST talent as Schobel probably would not be of much use there. Remember, he's already being cut because he can't transition to a 3-4.

We already have a situational PRS/spell guy to come in and play once every few downs. He would only take up a roster spot that an ST LB would be normally have held. Last season saw the Jets drop one at home to the Dolphins because they did not have the ST players on the roster and had to sally forth with Danny Woodhead making tackles. I don't think Rex wants a repeat of that one.

Houston's 4-3 defense is a much better situation for him. He'll get more reps and won't have to play a position for the first time at the age of 32.
    Pretty much, yea.
