Week 1, Sauce had a great break up in the endzone against Mark Andrews. Had his back to the ball, put his hands up last second to deflect the ball. Zero contact, no PI, all hands up from Sauce
This guy is great. I find myself actively looking for his post game interviews because of the way he explains his thought process on certain plays. He's a master of reading receivers eyes and body language, combine that with his size and his understanding of what he can get away with and not (and when), you have a top 5 CB. You can tell he's a very smart football player and I love listening to guys like that.
Right before our eyes this Rookie bunch has paid immediate dividends ! What a difference a year makes..thank you JD!!And with b hall back next season JD..you hit the Powerball I am leaving the Dark Side this Season hopefully for good..lol
Not raining on anyone's parade but he continues to get beat, catch back up, make contact and knock the ball away/stop the catch without turning his head around. Good for him he's making a career of it but I just know it's going to get called PI at the biggest moment of our season at some point. Shocked that last bills throw didn't get called.
I just listened to his interview with Jeané Coakley on the Post Game Show: "I had no doubt in my mind we could handle these guys. I had to be patient." No bravado, no punk ass attitude, no baseless delusional arrogance, just quiet matter of fact confidence. Oh, and he spread the glory around and even thanked the fans at The New Dump. My only disappointment is that she didn't take it further by asking him how REALLY felt playing in a roofless shithole with the character of a mausoleum. No hard questions in sportscasting these days. Sigh.
When you have freakish speed, length and athleticism plus super quick processing speed I think this is how you want to play CB.
That was a perfectly executed Hail Mary; against most corners, that's a touchdown. But Sauce smothered Diggs the entire way. He's already elite.
This post is fucking lame in about four ways. 1. TLDR, the poster doesn't like how Sauce is playing CB, results aside. 2. Because the bias comes out with "good for him he's making a career of it." 3. You know he's going to get a DPI in the moment it matters? What a crock of an I told you so. Show me any CB that's been great and hasn't gotten some big DPIs against them in today's NFL. 4. You either did not watch the last play of the game or just don't understand what DPI is it your calling his last deflection a should be penalty. NFL officiating is terrible so I can't blame you, but that doesn't mean you don't defend. On a side note, this was the best officiated game the jets have had this year I've watched.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about on this subject. This couldn't be further from reality at many levels That is exactly how an elite CB plays that ball against such speed and depth of throw.
earlier in the year i made the observation that he seems willing to EYE the receiver and then make a move to disrupt his arms when the ball arrives
Yeah what makes Sauce so good already is that his field awareness is way advanced. He can sense when the ball is near and start to make sure the WR’s job becomes a nightmare when he’s throwing his hands in the air for deflections and knockdowns. It’s what makes him so damn good as opposed to say, Bryce Hall, who I feel is a solid corner, but he just doesn’t have that “feel” and ball skills to make a play downfield to make sure the pass isn’t completed.
This guy is on the verge of being elite and we are halfway through his rookie season. All corners get called for that weak shit eventually, what matters is how often. Sauce's body control is so good that he can avoid much contact without his head turned. He's next level when he's reading the receiver's eyes.
Coach Saleh said Reed is a Pro-Bowler if he continues. Didn't quite catch the exact wording but the sentiment was there. Reed had a monster play yesterday. I know, I know, who really gives a chuck about the Pro-Bowl at the end of the day; but Coach Saleh has solidly gained the respect of that locker room and a comment like that doesn't get tossed around lightly and goes a long way. Heh, speaking of the Pro Bowl, even though it is kind of a bullshit thing, it always annoyed me in the past when Jets who deserved it would get passed over or worse get some alternate scrub designation. Who needs ya!
