That's not true. There's a good reason why they're awarded after the season is over. The production of the departing and returning player are a big factor along with the contract number.

I'm watching Jets Nation right now on FSN (12:21 a.m.) and after they came back from a commercial break, they flashed a "Breeaking News" graphic across the screen. I figured it was to officially announce them signing Taylor from Miami. Instead, this FSY female sports anchor says "according to NFL sources" the Jets got Santonio Holmes from Piitsburgh for a 5-round draft pick.

John Clayton (ESPN) also made this same claim.

now we just need to sign Jason Taylor and then Sharper after July 22 and we will be set

this frees us up in the draft to go BPA at every round

There's a dude on the web who does well predicting comp picks and has it down to a science.

How many players leave and how many FAs signed by the team are both factors as well, IIRC.

    Looked it up:

fuck the dolphins and fuck the patsies

The Jets get this guy for a 5th!!!

Im sure if this is a success we would sign him hopefully long term. I love this deal more so because this is the type of reciever we needed on the offense not brandon marshall aka home run guy

This gives Clowney a reason to prove himself.

He knows hes got 4 games to prove that hes not completely useless.

If it works out who knows, you could suddenly see the Jets transform their offense like the Chargers did.

Nope. Check this site out: http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/f4/compensatory-picks-heres-the-24497.html

Although the formula has never been revealed, by studying compensatory picks awarded since they began in 1993, I've determined that the primary factor in the value of picks awarded is the average annual value of the contract the player signed with his new team, with only small adjustments for playing time (I use games played and games started) and postseason honors. A simple method for determining for which qualifying free agents a team will be compensated is, for every player signed, to cancel out a lost player of similar value. For example, if a team signs one qualifying player for $2 million per season and loses two free agents, one who got $1.9 million per season and one who got $4 million per season, the team will be compensated for the $4 million player.

Production only has a very very small impact, and only if a player wins a postseason award. Its liek 95% contract value.

Tanny and I have higher standards, Iggy.

if Clowney shits the bed....Tanny will go out and trade a 3rd rounder for Larry Fitzgerald.....that's how he rolls.

    How can you check that?

So, how long until we get that 5th round pick back for trading Clemens?

It's an honest mistake by that guy. I get #1 and #29 mixed up all the time. Ditto for alive guys and dead guys.

I thought we did not have a 5th round pick this year. I thought that we gave it up along with a 3rd for Edwards. Can someone explain this?
