Eli is way ahead of Sanchez at this point in his career but as far comparing them in their third season I think they are on pretty similar tracks. Both showed promise but were very inconsistent. Even in Eli's 4th year you saw a lot of inconsistencies (57% completion% 20 INT's) until they made their playoff run. The only thing I would say is Sanchez has had much better early playoff success than Eli. Then years 5 through now is when Eli elevated his game to another level. He still makes mistakes but when you pass for 4000 yards and 30 TD's you can live with some mistakes. I can easily see Sanchez being just as good as Eli.
If your team is going to live and die with your throws you need to be better than Eli Manning. There are only 3 or 4 QB's in the NFL right now that throw the ball all over the place and have their teams do better as a result. Peyton who is injured, Brees, Brady and Rodgers. That's it. The Chargers would be much better off with a balanced attack and Rivers managing games for them. The Steelers are a balanced offense although they're throwing the ball a lot this season. Last year they had 479 throws and 471 rushes on their way to the Super Bowl.
Interesting stats. Although Sancho has a little better receivers at that point and a better D. Still cool though.
The big difference is that when Eli got thrown into the fire he was allowed the freedom to experience the QB position. I think their season was virtually lost if I recall so there was no pressure to WIN SB NOW WIN WIN WIN!!! I think its a HUGE mistake to start a rookie QB on a team that is built for the SB, that is too much pressure on everyone. How can a QB develop if you don't let him just go out there and play for a season. Just let him throw whatever, do whatever, learn from your mistakes, just air it out. Instead we take the QB and say.. NO NO NO!! STOP!! Easy throws, slants! Lots of easy slants.. hand the ball off.. don't play QB, just don't fuck up... You scared yet!! GOOD!! OMG too many turnovers!! Time for a color coded system because you are a little CHILD!... OMG, you can't have both hands on the ball, time to glue the ball to your hands in practice!! We're treating this guy like he is a little baby, that's not going to teach him anything, how can a QB develop if you don't let him figure stuff out on his own? E. Manning said that those 7 weeks or whatever that he got to play in that first season of his were insanely beneficial, cause they just let him play.
I am not two sided first of all. I understand there is a lot of factors for the reason this team is shitting the bed right now. Like I said, it is not as simple as a lot of people are making it out to be. It's not just one person on this team that is holding the team back. The predictablity factor is not an excuse, it is a reality. When 3/4 of the fan's watching the game know what is about to happen, that says a lot. A lot of fans that do not even try to understand the X's and O's of football can predict the play before it happens. It's not hard because it is so predicatable. Hell, is it an excuse when you have Mason, Holmes and LT calling out how predicatable this offense is? Players on this offense are saying this, it's not a defense, it is a reality. LT made a statement to the media not to long ago saying that this offense was predicatable and that after games, opposing players would tell him how predicatable it was and that they knew what was about to happen based on formations and consistent patterns. Is that an excuse too? The second part of your post has me scratching my head as well.. How does my points not touch base on almost everything you listed? Lack of Progress - Bad OL, something he has not had to handle before. Lack of chemistry with his WR. No deep threat. Run game is inconsistent, teams will not respect the pass if you can't run the football. Sanchez is facing a lot of things he has never had to deal with before, it is stunning his growth. It will get better. Poor reading of defense - He is hurrying throws because of the pressure he is facing on a consistent basis. It has to be getting inside of his head, just like it would any QB that is under that type of stress. I don't think it is a matter of him not reading the defense as it is him focusing to much on the pressure that he is constantly facing. All because our OL is shitty. Did you not see Wayne Hunter look like a rag doll due to, Von Miller? Holding on to the ball to long??? - You have got to be kidding me? He does not have a lot of time to hold on to the ball as is, the few plays where he did have the ball in his hands longer then 2 seconds was because he made that shit happen due to his feet and pocket awareness. It may seem like he is holding it to long because he hasn't had the luxury this season of holding onto the ball with comfort. Him being pressured is now the normal for people. Poor movement in the pocket? - You have got to be joking. He has a lot of raw talent, this is something that he has always done well. This isn't an issue. He has some of the best feet in the pocket for a QB. I don't know what you are watching. Accuracy and Choices - Our bad OL play is fucking with his head. It is obvious, why wouldn't those things that I listed play into affect with these two issues that you stated? Our WR haven't been helping him out a lot either. Plaxico gives up on about every play outside of the redzone. Locking on to recievers - Yeah, he has always been bad about that. I agree with that point you made. Regardless, there is plenty of blame to go around, including Sanchez. He is nowhere near the biggest problem on this team though. I truly think he has a bright future ahead of him and will be a consistent 2nd teir QB in this league. I can't believe I just typed all of that. Damn..
Sanchez has 17 TD. 14 Passing, 3 rushing. And Yes those rushing count because they are what they are. The problem with Sanchez is hes streaky as hell. He lights it up though in the playoffs,
Mean Dean, killing it in this thread. He is spot on. So. I'm lead to believe Eli Manning never threw off his back foot? Never? Not even into his 5th and 6th seasons? I'm not absolving Sanchez one bit, it's getting harder and harder to defend him, but, he's not getting much help. Where's all the hate for Greene? They needed him last night, and where does he go? Our QB gets hammered again, and he fucks up royally, and where is he? Still on the field. Our O-line has had a miserable season. Miller flattening Hunter was straight up embarrassing.
4 times he was walked back to the QB like his mother was holding his hand in KMart. I never thought Hunter could play that bad. He really was playing for a contract last January.
He has 17 total TDs good for 8th in the league. Of course he also has 15 turnovers good for second most in the league.
