That's why Tanny is partially responsible. He gave him the guaranteed contract for below average play. He also brought in Matt Cavanaugh (a former failed OC) for the sole purpose of developing Sanchez and he failed miserably as Sanchez was still making rookie-like mistakes last year. I mean, either Sanchez is a complete putz and unfixable or Cavanaugh has no clue. It could also be a bit of both. Since Cavanaugh has yet to prove himself in any caliber on offense on any team ever, I lean to that. When you make fundamental mistakes the majority of it falls on coaching. You really think Rex isn't tearing Sanchez apart when he makes turnovers? Just because Rex doesn't publicly bash him, and they don't put him on blast in front of anybody DOES NOT MEAN they aren't holding him accountable. That's nonsensical considering they drafted Geno and brought in Gerrard to compete with him. Only reason he's still here is because of that contract.
Apparently you did not even read my post beyond the first line. I wasn't defending Sanchez, and I didn't say that people don't understand football if they don't like him. It was blatantly obvious that Sanchez was a big part of the problem last year. It was also blatantly obvious we had more issues on offense than simply him. There were a bunch of problems, my point was that he does INDEED get the lionshare of the blame, regardless of the unbacked claims of him being coddled. Yeah they sure coddled him by taking away one of his top receiving threats almost every year he's been here and letting the oline go to shit. You could really only argue that in 2009 when he was a rookie, POSSIBLY 2010, but after that pretty much all skill positions on offense deteriorated substantially.
Um... No. A- He was a rookie, so most people should understand that there would be growing pains, and B - Outside of a couple epic disastrous games, he actually had a pretty efficient rookie season.
After tossing 5 ( or whatever number) INT's against the Bills. The Falcons game is another example. Or even a benching IN game was warranted at some points. It's understandable that he's a rookie but benchings are apart of the growing pains. It's called being accountable.
He could catch him this year or next. He has the ability to win the big one he has to do it. Playoff wins is a very fuzzy stat. Trent Dilfer is 5-1 with less talent that Sanchez had in 2009 or 2010. Jeff Hosteller is 4-1 as well.
They went to the AFCCG. Was he good....not too much. Then they went back. The next year he put up 32 scores. 2012, was a total offensive melt down. And...as I pointed out...in terms of scoring, in spite of turnovers, he scored more in a single season than any other QB under Schottenheimer, ever. Points win games. Pennington under Schotty, could break 20 tds. Favre did. No playoffs, and less scores (from Favre) than Sanchez put up in 2011. But hey....nothing matters in context, becaise Sanchez sucks.
 But he doesnt now, does he? And hes been surrounded by far better talent, on the field, and coaching. And only put up more than 32 scores, once. Without being shackled by Schitty. Get back to me when Sanchez chokes in the playoffs, like Romo, or has the same talent around him. Tje starting QB, that couldnt get a snap down, with the game on the line. You guys would have tar and feathers out. Romo got 100 mil.
Dilfer had less talent than Mark? what? he had one of the greatest Ds of all time. I think Dilfer is vastly underrated but he had talent on that team. Hostetler took over a team that was 11-2 so they were pretty good. you don't win consistently in the playoffs w/o quality QB play and even the greatest Ds aren't winning 4 road playoff games w/ subpar QB play.
Lesser talent on Offense not the Defense. If the Ravens had any kind of offense they would had more SB wins than anybody the last decade. It was criminal the offense they put on the field. Is Hosteller a better QB than Sanchez because he won a SB then?
No they didn't, when Bal tried to w/ Boller they couldn't. bal didn't start going back to the playoffs consistently until they got Flacco. TB quickly rid themselves of Shaun king and brought in Brad Johnson or they would have stopped going to.
They had Jamal Lewis and Priest Holmes in the backfield. Edge Bal They had Ogden anchoring a great OL-edge Bal they had Shannon Sharpe at TE_ edge Bal they had Ismail and taylor at WR, edge NYJ Overall they had more talent and an actual great defense unlike our very good defense.
When you have the greatest defenses of all time, you can carry an offense that only has an excellent running game. Both of those teams fall under this exception. So... if the Jets start to compete on defense at a level that no other team in the league can, maybe we can make the playoffs consistently with a bad QB. Assuming our running game is at least above average. And I'm not convinced of that.
Question. In your guys opinion, what does Sanchez have to do this year to be on our team next year considering the pass catchers we have? Winning record? Qb rating? Cut down on the turnovers? Etc
