I would tack onto #2, being able to lose his rhythm very quickly or the ability to let bad things pile onto each other. It seems when he has a bad game, it can very quickly become an atrocious game like TEN 2012, BUF 2009, BAL 2011, MIA 2011, etc

NO talent? C'mon get real. Warts (or moles) and all, Pete Carroll tabbed Sanchez to be the USC starter (granted he curiously couldn't unseat the immortal John David Booty earlier) and an NFL franchise traded up to the 5th spot to draft him. Those circumstance don't come into play around a lack of talent, or as you put it NO talent. Again, get real.

The comment that Mark Sanchez has no talent shows how clueless you really are. We are all entitled to our own opinions but to imply that he has no talent as a 33-29 record as a starting QB is just wrong. You may not like him nor want him as the Jets QB and again, you are entitled to this as a fan.

*talentless players don't stay in the NFL very long (insert many Jets draft choices). Even fewer are QB's and even less have a winning record and multiple championship game appearances. But hey, I'm sitting here trying to talk logic to an illogical poster...

I disagree with #3 now. He used to be that way, but now he is always accountable and I think has shown good leadership. Last year was a disaster, but not because of him.

    Other Sanchez problems:
    4. Says the right thing, then does the opposite on the field.
    5. Points out all his mistakes after a game, then repeats them the next week.
    6. Going along with your #2 point, he doesn't usually play an entire 60 minutes. Could have a good 1st half, bad 2nd, or the opposite. Also, with throwing rhythm, he can have it, then lose it instantly and never get it back for that game. Thus, subbing in Tebow randomly, clearly hurt him.

Salary figures - that can always be accommodated. If at all, most of Sanchez's salary next year is not guaranteed. (So if he sucks, Jets can just cut him and forget about him.) Moreover, when Sanchez is traded, he won't be traded to be a backup. [You can trust me on this.]

He did look magnificent in the playoffs - and that's what got most of the people still rooting for him (that includes a small part of me too.) Now, Sanchez during the regular season is a totally different monster...

Well - there are some that did sense the possible downfall. After all, Jets FO didn't do Sanchez any favor when they let Braylon walk, and Tomlinson retire without anything suitable. (Greene was more of a bell cow RB, and Sanchez still didn't have any safety net from the backfield by the way of receiving RB.) You know how harsh I have been on T-Bomb since these days on. That idiot traded picks away, then let the key players leave without suitable replacements. I just hoped my worry was ill-guided. [It wasn't.]

I don't know about that - to me, every game counts. Playoffs matter, but regular seasons matter too. You need to get to the post-season in the first place, to play there.

He has talent, he has capability anyway, we've seen it. He can make that big play if given to him, he can make a throw anywhere.

he just can't put it together lately, he plays scared ruining any good attributes about him.

I doubt he'll ever truly have it all together, not with us anyway. He seems like a guy trying his best not to make any mistakes, who then makes mistakes as a result.

If his contract wasn't what it was I don't know how long they'd give him, but time is up as of august he either puts it together or loses out to a cheaper man with arguably a better handle of under pressure situations.

For fucks sake it is a "Sanchez sucks" thread, why don't you start a Sanchez Rules thread instead of showing your ignorance.

Jets should keep Sanchez on the roster for the next ten years. That way when Geno gets us the last wildcard spot, Mark can take over and work his playoff magic...then back to the bench.

    Everybody's happy!

    Except possibly Jay Z.

Mark Sanchez has talent. But what really is talent for an NFL QB now? It seems like you either have to have a cannon arm (Rodgers, Stafford, even Flacco and Luck), need to be extremely intelligent about the game (Peyton, Brees, Matt Ryan, Brady- Rodgers can fall in here too), or a QB with the ability to run (Cam, Kaep, Wilson, RG3)...

All of those guys are without question, "talented".

But how does Sanchez compare?- Well he doesnt have a great arm, he's definitely not a cerebral player, and he isnt a QB with the ability to run. IMO he's on the tier of talent where players like Bradford, Dalton, Ponder ect are. In comparison to the rest of the NFL QBs, his "talent" level, isnt really something spectacular. Id say its below average.

Geno Smith has a good arm (appears better than Sanchez's from what we've heard from OTAs), seems to make good decisions, but most definitely has to adjust to the NFL. He also isnt a run first QB, but I think he can have some success on the ground like Aaron Rodgers or Alex Smith. He might even be close to Russel Wilson when it comes to athletic ability and being able to run. It appears he has talent (as did Sanchez when he came out of college)- hopefully this time around the coaching staff and the player can utilize it.

Running ability for a QB is very over-rated, although it can lead to spectacular results for a few seasons. The reason is that the injury factor outweighs the benefits of active mobility.

Passive mobility, where the QB just uses his speed, size or escapability to extend plays is a different question, but the active mobility with a running QB is a short-term benefit at best.

I hope the Jets use Geno Smith as a pocket passer and just let him do his thing when he needs to in order to extend plays. I don't think he's going to have a long NFL career being used in a way that he's never been used before and being exposed to excessive injury risk in the process.

I don't think this is true in WCO. If anything, one of the core plays in short yardage/goal line situation is sprint option plays; the QB has the option to 1. hit the WR1 on a slant 2. hit the WR2 on a flat 3. hit the WR1 on a corner 4. run it in himself. If the QB lacks decent speed, that kills the option #4 off the bat. On top of that, since the QB is not drawing any defender toward him, that also kills the flat route as well. Last, but not the least, the WR1 won't have the time to run a hard slant, then run to the corner. Not a good situation.

Believe it or not, WCO QBs all have pretty decent rushing records to go with them, starting from Joe Montana to Steve Young to Aaron Rodgers. The goal in WCO is to make sure the defense respect everybody - that includes QB - in any down, and if the QB cannot run to save his life, that limits the play calls significantly.

Again, I have to disagree with this. Mobile QB is a viable threat that the defense has to respect. Just, the QB must be taught to 1. run to the outside or 2. slide when he's about to take a hit. (Tackling a sliding QB is equivalent to free 15 yard.)

If Geno is a pure pocket passer, a la Troy Aikman, that can't learn to play WCO, then he is not a WCO QB either, and that means Jets need to draft a QB next draft.

    Heres the thing.

Here's the 09 scouting report on Sanchez.

unforunately, every positive attribute he has listed, are those negated by Scottenheimers system, as evidenced by Pennington, who had much of the same positives, mius the arm stregnth and mobility.

Ironically one of the critiques of previous coaching was not getting him out of the pocket.

and none of those negatives were ever accounted for. And we have seen them ad nauseum,

For me, the simple fact that a very smart, but weak armed player that we watched perform here, having the same issues, as a guy that never had a chance to succeed here, and has, to a limited extent anyway, makes that a fairly easy call.
