I'm not saying he should have been benched. I used the word "scrutiny" to make that point. Rex has expressed confidence in Sanchez over and over again. Ryan was truthfully answering a question. Should he have lied? Maybe. I left the Schotty scenario out of the equation...it's pretty much unanimous that the playcalling flat out sucks. And I'm not saying Sanchez's play is all that surprising at this point in his career. Conversely, it wouldn't shock me if he threw 5 td's on Sunday (ok...maybe a little). But c'mon...even he has said himself, all he needs to do is take care of the ball and not lose the game. I thought all that was covered...time to start thinking about beating your next opponent, not how not to beat yourself. Ironically, he's been at his best when asked to play outside himself and win games with his arm. He's back to doubting himself it seems. I'm afraid he's gonna go into a deep funk if the first series against Pittsburgh doesn't go well.
If he has the right stuff, he'll be a FORCE for years to come. He had a handful of great games, led some great game winning drives, NOT luck. I for one, was worried as a Pats fan leading to the rematch. So much was at stake. In that one game, the 10 year vet came out on top. Hindsight being 20/20, it doesn't seem to be such a shocker, but at the time it wasn't a game to be taken lightly Rex Ryan is also an up & coming coach, he's had some growing pains. He led great defenses in Baltimore for years and is adjusting to carrying the full load. The Pats have not swept the Jets since he's been there and before the last game, Rexs' Jet's had a 2-1 advantage. Even if Sanchez doesn't do well the rest of this year, he should turn into an upper level QB. The diminishing running game isn't helping him at all. The play calling isn't helping him at all. Guys dropping balls really hurt the cause. Even still, if you guys weren't in the AFC East, you would most likely be winning the division and hosting a playoff game this year
While its true to say he hasn't thrown any TD's its notlike he hasn't made TD-quality passes (i.e. passes that should have gone for touchdowns if our suddenly very butter fingers receivers were not all playing shit - the pass to holmes being theultimate example of this - its like spending so much time around Braylon has turned them all into players that make simple catches look hard).
Yeah, I'm not worried about Sanchez I think he will continue to grow. I am worried about the playcalling and Ryans managing. We all know Ryan will always have a dominant D but we've seen some great defensive minds fail as HC. Nevertheless I have not giving up on Ryan, he is still a second year coach who can become a force if he is willing to learn and change things. It would appear he is the type to go down with a sinking ship. We will see.
sanchez kinda wears his heart on his sleeve and hes prolly jus sick of being asked about it while trying to do his job. point in case. and i didnt see inside the nfl last week but from what was said Simms is spot on. we keep talking about the pressure rex has put on this team but being the qb of that is insane. id say hes dealt with it well. the only young qb id take over him is matt ryan. and i think that says alot considering how hes coming along. but i would like to see him a lil more angry. as in have a short memory when he makes a mistake and still come out the next drive like he just came out the tunnel hes got a strong enough arm, he has great footwork and technique. he just seems to forget it all once things start going to shit. it doesnt bother me considering his age and experience. also alot of this has to do with the OL this year vs last year. last year he had all day and struggled reading the field or knowing how to deal with a break down in coverage. this year he sees more, presses to do more and has less time to do it in. thats a recipe for exactly what were seeing especially since the run game has slowed down.
Mike & Mike were talking about this today. I liked Golic's take on it. The players know Rex is honest, and his comment was nothing more than that. Nacho knows he wasn't playing well. He's a big boy, he needs to be able to handle criticism. Non-issue.
He got enjoy the accolades of being a rookie to take a NY team to the Conference Championship Game..... but now has to face the backlash that comes with performing below expectations. NYC is a double edged sword.....Time to man up kid......... :breakdance: :jets:
Sanchez needs to be thick skinned here. He needs to move forward and show some mental toughness here. He has to bounce back and find a way to lead this team the next couple weeks on the road against playoff teams.
C'mon if RR has not begun to rethink MS then I would lose respect for RR since that is one of the things that is required per his HC job descripition :steelers:
I think all of these guys realize that if they aren't getting their job done the team will find someone else to give it a shot. Nobody is owed a job for life, you have to win. Rex knows that, Sanchez knows that. Better than the coach giving the old vote of confidence and having that be bullshit. If you work for someone you want to know where you stand, I think Rex gives the players that.
To all the 'F the media' folks- Please remember why the media is all over the Jets- because Rex made a circus and begged them to watch, week after week. You cannot expect them to now all just disappear and leave them alone (even if they are a bunch of assholes).
Cimini wrote about this too, Mark has been motivating the team in the locker room and during practice, even more so this week. Mark said it's a non-issue and he just wants to play. It never ceases to amaze me how these reporters twist shit around.
It is going to be quite interesting to see how the media slices & dices RR if the NYJ totally collapse or get eliminated from the SB derby :jets:
Thankfully for the advent of Twitter I can basically keep up with the NYJs thru that site without having to be flamed/torched by anyone :jets:
