He was having trouble understanding how you could even possibly pull that out as an objection per your initial argument. There was nothing about the level of QB keeping Clemens on the bench.
His arm strength is efficient...and I say that not in a dismissing way like w/ Chad. His arm strength is that of the average starting QB in the NFL. Physically speaking,I believe his elite qualities are his pocket presence and quick release. He can really get rid of the ball in a hurry...and thats an underrated quality in a young QB. Just imagine if KOB had, had a better release than he did.
The original argument , on my part, was that Clemens is a career backup because he could not win the starting job in 3 years even though he was given the opportunity each year. Last year they went out and traded for Favre because he still was unable to win it. What you replied with was pictures of Young and Rodgers as proof that being on the bench for three years meant nothing. Of course what you didn't add is that both of them were waiting their turn behind two of the greatest QBs of all time and never once were they in a competition to win the starting job. The example was ridiculous. If you want to now show me a few QBs that did spend 3 years on the bench and were always in the competition and who ultimately started for their teams I will listen.
Current NFL starters who sat the bench at least 3 years before starting. Matt Schaub Jake Delhomme David Garrard Aaron Rodgers Tony Romo
So what you're saying is, the original argument was perfectly intact in your head and you simply didn't feel a need to share it with the rest of us until someone called into question your argument as stated. Got it. I'm still looking for the words "That's what happens when you sit on the bench for too long after you've been in the QB competition every year because the incumbent simply isn't getting the job done. This of course doesn't apply to QBs who sit on the bench for too long because they're behind future Hall of Famers." My mistake. I must have just missed that block of text. I addressed your original original argument. WSW has now addressed your new original argument. One can only guess what your new new original argument will become.
Kellen Clemens had a number of chances to show that he was the qb of the Jets, and he blew every one of them. I don't understand why there are so many Clemens fans on this board. In all of his time as a Jet, he has never done anything to acquire a fan base. Truth be told, I was happy when the Jets drafted him. On draft day, Ron Jaworski said he could have been the best qb taken in the draft -- a sleeper. Clemens was getting over an injury and so his stock had fallen. I was thrilled to have him on the Jets. But today, after three years, I understand that Kellen Clemens is not an NFL qb. I think he's one of the worst, if not the worst, in the league. And I think he's a jerk for proclaiming himself the number 1 Jets qb, when he's never done anything to justify it. Kellen Clemens is an Arena League qb, and I think Ainge has a real chance to overtake the number 2 qb position this pre-season. I hope he takes it, because I don't want to see Clemens qb the Jets ever again. Rex cut the wrong qb
I believe in giving people an honest chance to become a starter. I don't believe Clemens had that until this year. If he can't beat out a rookie after having been in the same system for 3 years, he's likely a career backup. When did he declare himself the starter? So far as I've seen he never did that until the coach did so and someone from the media asked him about it. He didn't even know Rex had called him the #1 guy until the media asked him. Please provide evidence of this claim you keep making that Clemens declared himself the #1 QB. The hate for this guy is comical at times.
It won't let me post up the video from Youtube, but here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrOUZ7Ml_Lo See the fans reaction. This is what u call "The stadium comes alive!"
1. He's not going to beat out a rookie. Sanchez is going to be the starter. IMO, Clemens is lucky if he's the backup to Sanchez. 2. He declared himself the starter on numerous occassions, prior to the Jets trading for Sanchez. Go back and read the reports. When Sanchez came, he rightly shut his big f'n trap, because he read the writing on the wall. The organization slapped him down 3. Hate? Puh-lease. I'm just sick of seeing the worst qb in the league on my team.
Actually, I'm pretty sure he said he believed he was going to be the starter in week 1 - in one of the interviews on the official site's media center - and that was after Sanchez was drafted. I'm assuming that's what he means by 'declaring himself #1 starter'.
I'm certainly not going to search the net for the articles. Go on Google for an hour, and you'll find them! He said it many times.
I'm not disputing that Clemens said that, but if it really was said "many times", would it take an hour on Google to find the quotes?
