I wonder what will happen with Phillip Lindsay. I'd imagine he's going to try to force his way out even if they tender him (RFA). They fucked him signing Gordon. There's no off the ball linebacker worth any money in free agency. There are tons of corners that will be available and some good interior lineman (unfortunately I count about 10 starting centers). I think that'll be the expenditures. There's only a couple receivers that will be available (JuJu, Godwin). I doubt Golladay breaks free.
i think were fine if we keep out own ILBs mosely, cashman, onowasu, and williamson. maybe keep hewitt for cheap depth. I'd love to get juju or godwin to go with mims, crowder, and a couple of rookies. then we can keep smith as a WR6 and maybe even berrios for returns or cager or vyncent smith
hell no! It’s never irrelevant. They gave up all they did for Darnold counting on him to make up for it. But you are using it as an excuse. Think of all the weapons they coulda stockpiled with the picks they wasted on Darnold The fact that they coulda kept everything they had and got a 6th rounder who is just as good is not irrelevant at all
I think the Jets would get way more than that if they had the 1 pick & decided not to take Lawrence. For that, you have to get multiple 1s (maybe 3) & maybe 2 2d rounders. That's the tough choice - a haul like that, or Lawrence..
I guess you don’t see Seattle much, I am probably the biggest RW fan here as I watched him as a local talent at NC State. But he has Tyler Lockett, Metcalf and this year Greg Olson. He also has had a solid LT in Duane Brown on the blind side. He also has always had decent backs and a running game. In the past he has had Doug Baldwin, J Kearse, Jimmy Graham, Golden Tate Please do not even try to compare what he has had to work with what Sam has had. Yes RW makes them better but they are still light years ahead of the crap the Jets are. I think RW is the best and underrated, I think he overall may be even better than Mahomes. The weapons KC has and the incredible play design just about any QB could be successful there, hell Alex Smith put up Pro Bowl numbers. Yes - great QBs do make players better, I never said that Sam was great, my actually post says he has a long way to go, but the talent is still there. For the record there is not a QB on the planet that would make a difference on the Jets they way they have been constructed on offense the last 2 years - Mahomes and RW included.
You know who's not running down the field? Robby Anderson, the guy who could draw a lot of coverage away from others and still get open himself that Darnold had the connection with. Go figure.
I'm sorry but you persist in hanging Sam's lack of production entirely on him. You completely underestimate the impact a bad coach and his playcalling and poor surrounding talent have on a QB. How is he supposed to throw for 350 yards when Gase is calling for passes behind the LOS repeatedly, and receivers can't get separation, or they drop balls that hit them in the hands? Or when there is no running game to introduce a little uncertainty in the attack? Or when his pass pro can't pick up blitzes? I am not saying Darnold is great, or that he's proven that he's the FQB he's supposed to be, but there is no way anyoe can fairly evaluate him on that measure in these circumstances. And I get it, it's not fair, but even if he has to play under Gase for the whole season and with this shitty talent, he still needs to show SOMETHING that warrants continuing the investment in him. Last night I saw some flashes, and more importantly, I saw that he didn't quit, even after getting body slammed. If he had a competent coach and even a few more pieces around him, you would see a completely different version of him. Sadly, I don't think we're going to get to see that guy this year, and maybe not ever in a Jets uniform.
The win/loss is irrelevant when assessing his play. They could've beaten the Colts last week and the 2 INT's still would've left people asking questions
If Sam is due 20m+ we can wave goodbye, currently, he is not worth 20m+ he is still at the showing promise stage which in itself is unfortunate after 3 years but again mitigating circumstances (or excuses if you are a hater) and age all demand that Sam is given a chance with a decent coach/system and some actual talent to help. My gut tells me if we have the one pick then it is goodbye Sam.
If the Jets draft a 1st round QB next year they're not picking up Darnold's option. The new CBA made it prohibitively expensive to pick up the 5th year option as an insurance policy. You guarantee 4th and 5th years for all of skill, cap and injury when you pick up the option and the option vests immediately instead of on 3rd day of league year. In other words you are paying the player 4th and 5th year no matter what unless they do something that violates the contract in the interim. So if the Jets draft a 1st round QB next year they are likely to just let Sam play out the 4th year, probably as the starter, while they wait to put the new guy on the field in 2022. The more likely result, particularly if the Jets have the #1 overall pick, is that they trade Darnold prior to the draft for additional assets, value to be determined by how well he shows his skills the rest of the season. If the Jets have a comeback, like last year, then all the scenarios are likely dependent on Darnold's performance during that comeback. Joe Douglas didn't draft Darnold but he knows how hard it is to find and develop a QB - particularly in this toxic media market. I don't think we fully appreciate how truly toxic the NY/NJ media market is. There are very few places in the world that will support the kind of shitshow that Manish puts on on a regular basis. Cimini would have been run out of town by the fans by now in most areas. Local sports media is not an opinion market in most smaller areas. Local sports media is a semi-cooperative marketing partner instead. National media is always shriller, because more voices and less local investment. The problem in the NY/NJ market is too many voices in competition and frankly two teams - meaning that a sizeable portion of the media market is inhabited by fans who want to see the other team fail and will at least occasionally consume content that plays up that angle. Manish is a joke though. When the NFL took away his press privileges, essentially branding him as a non-sports reporter, the Daily News should have fired him. Getting the credentials you need to succeed revoked is definitely a firing offense in any other business i can think of.
32 cars in a race. One of the cars has square wheels. That car finishes 30th. Imagine what that driver could do with round wheels. Plenty of other teams would probably want to find out.
Just finished watching this game .. Darnold's IT factor is fadings ... FFS .. I have never seen so many passes defensed. I really thought he needed a Tee Higgins for those same catch radius purposes .. but we got a shelfed Denzel Mims .. Get in there Mims .. I did like that he actually ran with the ball .. He didn't look like Josh Allen or anyone .. but .. And why did they take out Flacco on that drive lol ..there was a different feel .. Defense looked weird .. Ok let's move on to game 5 ..
Dude - who cares how much cap space you have. If h My point is - where is the 1st round pick WR or FA big time weapon on their rosters
