This. If the Cowboys offseason didn't prove that you can pay pay pay pay and still somehow fit it all under the cap, then I don't know what will. And like you said, by the time Darnold is ready for a new deal we can easily move on from the current Mosley/Bell contracts. I'm not worried about it even a little bit.

do you think its possible that the new CBA will have an exemption from the cap for 1 contract?

each team can pay 1 player outside the salary cap. I think players would like it because teams with expensive QBs won't have to go cheap on the other 52 players. Some owners won't like it, the cheap ones- Buffalo / Cincy, etc. but most would like the idea of being able to build a team around their QB. (or whatever position they allocate, but most likely QB)

No because the whole point of the cap is to prevent big market teams being able to outspend small market teams.

And allowing owners with money to spend to pay 200M for a player that would be exempt from the cap isn't dumb?

It would be dumb, but you are 100% right that the players deserve it. They are the ones making money for the owners, they deserve just as much as they are bringing in for the franchise.

They have more cap space than the NY Jets. The Jets top 8 is more than Dallas's top 8. Their starting QB is about 2 million, Sam is 6.8 million. The Cowboys have lots of guys on rookie contracts.

The big difference is Dallas actually has drafted players on their roster who are high quality players.

They are going to give Dak a new deal, that’s the point. They’ve already given out a ton of new money and they aren’t done, yet they’ll be able to do it. There’s no reason to be worried about our money situation.

The point is they can give Dak a new deal and have a really good D and OL and the best running back in football and a high quality WR because they have drafted well.

Our money situation is worse and we have less good players because we have drafted poorly. In order to have the Cowboys talent and cap space we will have to draft much better.

Money is never a problem. We have the same money as everyone else. That's not the point at all. It's how good the overall rosters is at the cap level that matters. Our situation isn't comparable to Dallas because they have drafted well and we haven't.

We can cut Mosley and Bell in a couple of years but if we don't have their replacement and draft inferior talent we are in worse shape in terms of our roster. I suspect Leonard Williams to be off the roster after this season for exactly that reason.

The NFL has shared revenue. The point of the cap is to lock in the owners operating profit.

I thought this entire conversation was amount money, hence why I was talking about money. No shit we’ve had awful drafts for the last decade, but that has no bearing on how we can afford Adams and Sam when it’s time to give them new deals. The draft is a whole different saga.

As an NY Jets fan who's craved a Sam Darnold like Franchise caliber QB to build around dating back to our glory days of Chad Pennington where it was at least fun to say we've got a QB/RB duo of a smart Pennington (injuries included) who could then lean on a HOF great such as Curtis Martin with some receivers here and there with Coles and Moss etc it was at least fun to dream big right so I'm truly tired of seeing Baker Mayfield's name mentioned alongside of Sam Darnold when as a Jets fan I could give two flying fks about Mayfield who's quarterbacking for the damn Cleveland Browns who during my generation have produced 10x the amount of 1st round QB busts as our Jets have you think it impressed me Baker went ahead of Sam drafted by CLE of all teams? It doesn't.

I couldn't care less Baker went #1 overall. Good. Never wanted "Baker Mayfield" as the face of my franchise to begin with. Good for Cleveland. They've finally got another QB prospect. How many QBs have busted for Cleveland within our generation? Too many to count. I'm just thankful we've got Darnold. A young talented and smart kid who's classy and humble as a young leader amongst men already and a kid QB to build our QB position around for so many more years to come.

Focus on our O-Line under Douglas because the building blocks are already here in Le'Veon Bell our greatest HB and greatest offensive mismatch nightmare since #28, Robby Anderson as an electric playmaker on offense and the best one on one deep threat we've had since maybe Al Toon this kid is going to be Jets greatness with Darnold and a must re-sign, a super talented TE out of Miani in Chris Herndon who led all rookie TE's last year in receptions, receiving yards and TD receptions who looks to be the best pass catching TE we've featured since Dustin Keller (who was way more productive than any TE we've had since) and if our offense looks potent early on well then watch out because we're adding another pass catching threat @ TE come week 5 and last but not least then you've got Jamison Crowder as a top notch NFL slot receiver and imo we have not had a deadly slot receiver since Chrebet on a yearly basis who could move the chains and break open deep from time to time; not saying he's Chrebet but Jamison is going to be special for us as in a Jet a fan favorite penciled into the slot and Enunwa being healthy again is another awewome option for a developing 2nd year QB to have as yet another WR who can line up all over.

    QB: Sam Darnold.
    RB: Le'Veon Bell.
    WR1: Robby Anderson.
    Slot: Jamison Crowder.
    WR2: Quincy Enunwa.
    TE: Chris Herndon.

Man. Behind a veteran O-Line (one young pup in Shell) that looks like 6 offensive playmakers and 6 potential game changers any given play. When's the last time a Jets offense really had 6 primetime players at skilled positions? I can only remember talking up our defense as of late.

That's all I care about focusing on.

Good luck to Baker Mayfield and Cleveland. I hope their fans love him. Baker getting big money or busting means nothing to me. It's all about Sam Darnold and his weapons moving forward. I don't even care about his name mentioned in a Jets thread title.

All I care about is Darnold one day becoming highest paid QB of All-Time; that means he's a winner and that's all us longtime grumpy Jet fans have ever talkef about, wanted, demanded and dreamed big of, right? So who gives two flying pigs that Baker went #1 or Baker is being talked up after a non playoff rookie season? lol I know I don't.

Hopefully it's Jets vs. Cleveland AFC Championship game multiple times like Brady/Manning NE/Indy and I still won't care win or lose that it's against Mayfield I'm just happy and thankful we've got Sam. I bet Baker would have looked like complete dog shit as a Jet last year. Darnold towards the end last 4 weeks looked like the gem of the draft.

The building blocks are here. We can now build around Darnold and the QB position during every future draft and every FA process. And build an offensive machine over time. Mayfield? Cleveland? Hah.

We're worried about paying Sam already??? Let him prove he deserves that money first before it becomes a hot debate

Yeah I'm sure that's the plan - keep him in place while the trenches are built. 2021 draft a new RB high.

The point is I don't think footballgod needs to worry at least not about Darnold and Adams. The Jets may not win a championship while they are on their rookie deals but they are not going anywhere regardless. I expect the Jets to win a championship under Darnold's reign.

Some people can see greatness before greatness strikes. Not always hindsight 20/20. Le'Veon Bell sees it. Robby Anderson sees it. Gase sees it. Adams sees it. The fans see it and appreciate it and we're excited about it. He's already proven he's our most talented QB since dating back to a young Pennington a blind man can see Sam's overall talents and football ability.
