When you're a NT you are .5 seconds from having 600 lbs on you or having to get in the way of 300 lbs that wants no part of you. No QB in history (except maybe David Carr) was ever .5 seconds away from having two guys on him at the snap.
http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070515/SPT03/705150310/1022 Adams started all 16 games last season, totaling 25 tackles and two sacks. He was slowed during the season after suffering torn knee cartilage in the preseason in a game against Green Bay, an injury he played through the entire season instead of undergoing surgery. He did have surgery after the season ended and has been around the Paul Brown Stadium complex during the team's offseason conditioning program. Adams did spend last training camp working out with strength coaches Chip Morton and Ray Oliver to reach playing shape instead of spending time on the practice field with the rest of the Bengals. That had become an annual routine for Adams, who signed a three-year deal with the Bengals last offseason as a free agent after three seasons in Buffalo. I've gotta believe Cinci cut him because of this. He might be in strength training but he is probably not recovered yet. I'd be wary of picking him up.
The JETS have to sign Sam Adams immediately to fill the NT spot. At 6'3 350 pounds he should easily help the JETS run game for a couple of seasons.
I just got off the phone with Mangini and right now the Jets are not interested in "Sam I Am ----- Fat". Eric asked me to have this thread replaced with one comparing Ali with Tyson.
I think Ali in his prime would wooooop Tyson in his prime. Tyson had quick hands but only when he was in close, like 6 inches away. Ali had great feet, great movement, and a killer left jab the kept bumbs like Tyson off balance. Plus Ali was one of the few true heavy weights that had several 3-4 punch combinations where any one of the punches could KO a fighter.
I agree, but if Ali used "Rope a Dope" tactics with Tyson; Tyson would have broken many of his bones.
Whats the worst thing that could happen we sign him for one year... with that big of a body he is going to command a double team which in essence frees up another person on defense maybe to be that pass rusher we need..
Also I think lining him up head up on a center and soon as the ball is snapped bull rush the center which will force a team to double him.
Sam Adams could be Jonathan Vilma's best friend. I like it. Ellis, Adams, Coleman up front, Harris and Vilma backing them up.
For the right price and passing the physical with flying colors..... I agree. A one year contract could add up to a formula for LB and DE success. Pouha back healthy with Robertson maybe finding more ways to penetrate this could be a decent rotation. Would like to find another big body though. I remember the Chester ordeal with him being way out of playing weight and taking him the better part of the season to be any presence at all. People were saying the same thing. He's big just plug him in there. Blah blah, but Adams did play all the games last year with pain I would imagine and I'm just wondering if he pushed his knee too hard to be playable this season......? It's obvious his performance last year was due to his playing on a torn knee. Even so he was still drawing attention at least that's what the reports say. It's only May and there's time for another fat bastard to fall out of a tree somewhere....maybe. I expect Mangini to wait for another...........
Absolutely and Tyson reminds me of the T-rex character in animation movie Meet the Robinsons...."I have a big head and little arms" but watch out he can bite! LOL Imagine if he bit Ali, I think Ali would have killed him.
Yeah, Ali played 'rope a dope' at the end of his carrer against leon spinks and Ali lost the fight. He fought leon again and killed him. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.... Tyson was a bit like smokin joe frazier (who broke Ali's jaw). Tight, compact, TRex arms. Frazier was more timid in the first few rounds, unlike Tyson who burnt 90% of his gas in the frist 3 mins. Ali taking out george forman was a classic. george would never sit between rounds, but he definetely wanted to sit that fight. And i miss the "voice of sports".
