I'm not counting on Pool. I'm counting on the rotation. I love Eric Smith when he's used properly. If you told me we were going to go DL/OLB with our first two picks, Freddie Barnes in the 4th, and safety, OL, DL with the last 3, I'd be happy. I still think we take a late running back to develop, though.

yep...I'm on the "get a HB late in the draft" bandwagon too.

I'm not counting on the rotation. Eric Smith is pretty slow...and will get destroyed in coverage. I do like him in spot duty....but i wouldn't want to rely on him. Iheghidibo (spelling?) isn't the long term answer either.

I guess we'll see. The Jets could go a bunch a different ways with their draft strategy.....and fill positions of need.

the last thing i want to see is the Jets trade up for a player....even if it is Earl Thomas.

We're definitely going to see a rotation at safety. There's a great interview with Mike Pettine on the Jets' official website. In the interview, he speaks highly of Smith and Ihedigbo.

As long as Ryan is our coach, we're going to see a lot of versatility in the secondary.

Here are my top five mid-to-late round safety prospects that will fit into what we're trying to do here:

    1. Georgia's Reshad Jones - one of the better all-around safeties in this draft. This kid hits hard and is a very good pass defender.

    2. Georgia Tech's Morgan Burnett - ball hawk. Just a dangerous pass defender.

    3. Kansas' Darrell Stuckey - great instincts. Very similar to Kerry Rhodes.

    4. Florida's Major Wright - plays with reckless abandon. A perfect rotational, strong safety in our scheme.

    5. Florida State's Myron Rolle - incredibly smarts and work ethic. Rarely, if ever, out of position.

I believe your top safeties..Jones & Burnett will be 2nd rd selections.

Stuckey will probably go in rd 3.

To me, the third round is a middle round. There will be amazing value in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds.

Guys like Nate Allen and Chad Jones will go ahead of Reshad Jones and Morgan Burnett. It's very possible for them to fall.

It really depends on how the first round shakes up. There really isn't much a need for safeties this year, so some guys are going to fall further than usual.

Someone will fall. I guarantee it.

don't know if this has been discussed earlier in the thread, but in either Kiper's/McShay's mock draft on ESPN today one of them had us taking Taylor Mays.

I KNOW Taylor Mays has been beat to death on this board, but at 29 that would be damn good value. He is a freak athlete, which cannot be taught. I, personally, think that he could be coached up and become a very good safety

some of the trusted draftniks on this board have compared Mays to being the "Vernon Gholston" of Safeties......if that is even remotely true.....i don't want the Jets to go near him.

Even after the ridiculous workout, Mays' "value" is still in the mid-to-late twenties.

I personally don't think he has a playmaking bone in his body. The guy's fast as hell and hits like a truck, but he makes more mistakes than he makes plays...and that really bothers me.

The difference being, Gholston at least had some accomplishments at the college level.

Mays scares me. There's a million more productive, ready-to-contribute type players in this draft that we could use with the #29 (Cody,Tate,Odrick,Iuapati,etc.etc.).
