LeBeau is old and sucked as a head coach with the Bengals. Bad example.

I was only asking because I thought maybe there was a real reason.

Belichick stunk his 1st time as a head coach though. :eek:hmy:

And if you were, then I misread. Sorry dude. They say Ryan is bad at interviews but if Woody wants a emotional coach then Ryan's that dude.

Good point. How much does an interview really show about who the coach actually is. You find out how great he is by what he's accomplished on the sideline. Having a great interview doesn't mean anything if you're a horrible coach. That's exactly why we shouldn't look too deep into whether interviews go well or badly. Let's just pray the FO knows what they're doing and doesn't hire the best talkin' guy they find.

Why did we hire Herm instead of any obviously more qualified candidate? Life is a mystery.

Is he bright enough to be a head coach? I still want to know why he wasn't promoted last year in Baltimore and why the hell other teams thought he wasn't good enough.

After giving this some thought...i think there's a little too much emphasis on Rex Ryan's past interview history. He started interviewing for HC positions last season....it's normal for candidates to not get the job on their first "pass". He might not have been well prepared....it could be as simple as that. With another year under his belt, and having the "experience" of HC interviews from last year....he could be better prepared this season.

I love the idea of hiring Rex, but didn't these defensive players previously make Marvin Lewis and Mike Nolan look like future HCs also?

that's irrelevant...some coordinators turn out to be excellent HC's...some don't.

For example....just because Mike Tomlin is an excellent HC...doesn't mean I want Ted Cottrell for my HC.....both were former Vikings DC's.

Well, I think it's hard to call Marvin Lewis a poor head coach; he practically single-handedly revived the NFL's worst franchise. No one could have predicted 1) the freak injury in the playoffs to Palmer and 2) the incredible number of arrests and off-field incidents

sometimes a players coach or one that is soft will have his players run wild over the whole situation

Rex came to BAL in '99, what if he was the one on the coaching staff who was responsible, from the coaching side, for their great defenses all these years? Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and some others, great players, but lots of defenses have great players.

It doesn't take a genious to recognize Rex's intangibles. He is aggresive, we haven't had an aggresive HC is years. RR believes in heat, disruption and position-play. EM was too conservative in his scheme. If properly utlilized the current roster on NYJ could be a great force on D. I firmly believe RR could turn the D into a dominant phase D on both pass and rush parts. Add one decent CB and we have something brewing. What more proof do you need? RR knockers will say it's what he inherited but the fact of the matter is he has had a revolving door at DB from McAllister-Rolle-Washington-Ivy-and various other scrubs. Pass rush is key and if we can get that going the weakness of our defense can be masked.

While this is the best news I have heard so far on the coaching front, I am worried about it being done today. Think about it. Ryan spent all week preparing to blow up the inept tennesee offense. He did it, causing 3 turnovers from the 2nd best team in the NFL at not giving it away, a week after causing 5 turnovers from the team least likely to give it away.

Unless Rex was up all night familiarizing himself with our players and teaching himself what to say/do in the interview, he might not be as prepared for the interview as our guys would like. So the question becomes are we impressed enough with Ryan to wait until he can give us a second interview? IDK but i really hope so.

To be honest I think we are waiting to give spags a second interview as well. So I expect the Championship games will contain our new coach. Hopefully they both lose next week that way we get to interview everyone a second time and get to hire our new coach. besides who doesnt want to see Arizona in the superbowl?

No one talks about how Whisenhut was passed over by Tomlin in Arizona and has the Cardinals in the NFC Championship game. When you think about it, why would Ozzie Newsome promote Ryan when he can hire Harbaugh to coach the whole team and have Rex still run the defense? With that said, I love that Ravens defense and if we could have anything close to that I'd be excited.
