I agree with you here, 1985. We can't rule out that the CS and FO have given up on Smith, but this decision is not dispositive evidence that they have. It was much more staying with your starting Qb after a brief interlude to deal with an injury. I am tempted to make more of it than that as you probably would guess. But that would be making more of it than it really is.
That's reading more into it than what it really is, I get it we all do it. If I'm in Bowles shoes I would've done the same thing, and not because of the reason you outlined, I'm doing it because he's earned the job and we've been successful with him up to this point. If he can manage the injury and play through it without it hindering his performance I'm riding with Fitz, the real indictment is if we get a repeat of 2008 and you can tell the injury is affecting his play, but Bowles refuses to bench him for Geno, that scenario tells us two possible things either Bowles is an idiot, or he'd rather lose with a clearly gimpy Fitz than to tun to Geno. But let's see how all this plays out.
lol 85 We all forget Coaches can easily go from heroes to zeros If YOUR career was riding on Geno how wouldya feel?
With this defense and offensive personnel I'd feel fine with Geno at QB. He did a solid job in relief of Fitz last week. Granted it was one game but still.
Probably best to give up the fight 85, everything is a genos fault or a slight at geno. Of course no one can explain why he is still on the roster if bowles doesn't want to play him. I mean wouldn't you be pissed if the coach was wasting a roster spot on a player they think can't play?
Same way i feel with fitz out there, Hope the team doesn't let down because the qb can't carry the team
its his own fault 85. As fans we don't owe Geno Smith jack shit. It might be in the best interest of the organization to show patience, but as fans we don't have to. IF you are going to shit all over yourself on the field, at least be a likeable guy. Sanchez was a likeable guy. Fitzpatrick is definitely a likable guy. Geno Smith is an arrogant prick who can't even read a fuckin clock let alone make smart decisions on the football field. You can be a dumb asshole if you play the QB position well but he doesn't do that either. Its no wonder fans don't like him. He's terrible and he's an ass. lastly its like who the fuck cares about him anyway at this point? he's a second round pick who has pretty much sucked his whole time here. There has been nothing enduring about his NYJ tenure and he's not exactly showing strides in his "potential". He could be traded tomorrow and it wouldn't make a difference in any way. The light is not going to come on for him. He's ceiling is Quincy Carter. Like seriously he's not even WORTH the effort you are exhibiting to defend him. Idzik swung and missed on like 97 draft picks.... add Geno Smith to the list and move on
Quick answer? Geno's contract is the main reason why he's still here. Not like someone's contract has prevented them from being released. Idzik was Geno's main patron up until he left. This FO doesn't owe Geno anything and the organization still owes what's left on his guaranteed contract. Personally, I think the organization has already moved on from Geno Smith. He's insurance against Fitz getting hurt but I don't think they see Geno as the QBOTF. I've said it before... It's time for Geno to move on and start over somewhere else. Best for him, best for the organization.
Likeability is very relative, I don't care about that, and while he hasn't been good up to this point, the hate is a little over the top.
you still can't fix stupid and that QB is doing the same stupid stuff he was doing 3 years ago ... you fought a good fight 85
Yep the Jets have definitely moved on. If they had any plans/hope for Smith they'd be approaching things differently. He won't be on the roster next year I bet
Genos on year 3 of a 2nd rd pick contract. The cap hit isn't prohibitive, this regime has no stake in him. If he was as bad as its made out, the locker room hated him as much its made out to be he would've left with i.k. He's still here though and active every sunday, why would bowles do that if geno was what this board says he is?
QBs do improve, but normally improvement is working on mechanics, reading defenses, and mastering the playbook. QBs at this stage, should already know when it's a good time to throw the football away. It's dumb shit like that, that really disappoints me about Geno Smith because he's got all the physical talent to be a good QB, but that internal clock is about 5 seconds too late each time.
That excuse only works now, this narrative has been running all summer. Its just being brought up again because fitz has an injury that will require surgery. Nevermind that there have been enough cases of players playing through this particular injury without decline in play and there is no reason thaf futz should sit after starting every game this season. This must be proof positive that the whole organization hates geno. Seriously?
Hard to tell based on one game but he showed improvement, sloppy mistakes you can hope he can limit with time.
