Honestly I don’t know that Russell is a huge improvement over Taylor anyway…different kinds of QBs…Russell will take more risks and push the ball downfield whereas Taylor will take the checkdowns and play less risky overall…but in the end, neither is all that great and neither is playoff quality anyway at this stage in their careers. Fields is going to play as long as he’s healthy because he’s the only one who has some kind of possible upside…odds are VERY small I believe, but Russell is clearly in decline, and Taylor is just a hold the fort kind of guy. At 0-3 we are not making the playoffs, so I don’t see much sense in bringing anyone new here at this point…we’re either going to suck our way into a top 5 pick with some combo of Fields/Taylor, or in the small chance that Fields plays above his level, we maybe squeak out 5-6 wins or so… Sad to say, but this season is pretty much effectively over
One stop and a 60 yard field goal away from being 2-1. And that’s with “the worst defense” and “the worst QB”, so yeah something to be said about not punting on the season in September for once and get this, trying to get better and win
We need to trade for a #2 WR and maybe a #3 as well if we are going to even have a chance of improving, and maybe even target our TE who has seemingly been open a number of times but never looked at by the QB, either of them.
If you trade for him now, you’re lucky if he plays 2 weeks from now after trying to learn the offense. Most likely 3 weeks from now. It’s not like we have a group of players who have been in the offense for 3 years that can help him learn it either. Oh and the Jets should stop pissing away late round picks. Good rebuilding teams retain a ton of those lottery tickets to play all 5 numbers and the powerball. The Jets making these meaningless trades for teams trash is the equivalent of playing the powerball but only asking to play 3 numbers and no powerball.
How often do those powerball numbers hit though? I have no issue trading one dart throw for another. I do have an issue with having to make those trades because the GM failed at filling out the roster and instead wasted most of his day 3 picks on turds and made some terrible signings. I also would not call Phillips and Brownlee meaningless acquisitions
If you put points on the board, the defense doesn't have to play as cautiously. They can take chances, play percentages and don't have to be on the field as long. It doesn't need to be Wilson, but that is how a good QB helps the defense.
Going out and signing Russ to try and "win more 2025 games", after basically paying the clearly best 2025 QB wins possibility on the reality table to go play elsewhere in offseason, would certainly be the absolute most Jets'y thing to do for this poorly run franchise. There was always a 93.5% chance coming in to the season that this was going to be a transition tank year regardless who suited up at QB. Embrace the tank and hope we hit the few younger player lottery ticket Ws on the way to 2026.
Ain't happening. The Jets put all their eggs in the Justin Fields basket. If it were any other team I'd die of laughter. But it's my team so I'm greatly saddened.
