I agree. If he can't kick that shit to save his career, he isn't worth having.

We could use a solid receiver but at this point in his career i dont know if Harrison has it left. If he does it would be a good pickup for a season.

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of signing has-been's... He's slowing down, he's changed his game to being a possession receiver... which is fine, I'm not saying we couldn't use another dominant possession receiver.

I'm just not really a fan of signing guys over the age of 30, I like guys to be on my team for a long time, and build that relationship. I feel like it throws off locker rooms when older guys come in who have been superstars, not great for chemistry. One could argue that guys like Clowney and Smith and Stuckey can learn from a great receiver like Marvin... but he isn't that type of guy, our guys will learn more from watching tape of him, than seeing him in person.

I'd rather stick with our guns, if we could get Braylon I wouldn't have a problem with that at all. As good a talent as Boldin is, he's got some character issues, and I wouldn't really want him on my team. We don't need a drama queen...

You are the only person that I have seen on this board refer to Harrison as a thug. Seeing as he does such a great job keeping his private life out of the papers, how can you say anthing about him at all.

I am so sick of this and other boards discussing whether someone is or is not a thug...

Disregarding your beliefs about aging superstars and what not, I hate this point. Kids learn by watching and observing. Why do you think kids tend to emulate the people they can see in everyday life, more than they emulate the people on TV? Bringing in a vet like Harrison, will make this team better, even if the young guys just learn by watching, because they don't have a seasoned vet to watch. Jerricho is a great player, but they cant learn much of anything more from him, because they have been watching him for a few years now.

Even if you hate the idea of Harrison because he won't teach, how can you hate the idea of Amani Toomer? He isnt as accomplished as Marvin, then again he didnt have Peyton throwing to him in the prime of his career. Toomer owns several Giants records. here's a list and a linkhttp://www.giants.com/team/player56.html

    - The most productive receiver in Giants history, Toomer holds franchise records for catches (620), receiving yards (8,917), touchdown catches (50) and 100-yard receiving games (22).
    - Toomer has 34 more receptions than runner-up Tiki Barber (586) and 3,483 more yards than former record-holder Frank Gifford (5,434).
    - Toomer also holds the Giants postseason records for reception (42), yards (582) and touchdowns (7). No one else in Giants playoff history has more than 3 postseason touchdown receptions (Bavaro and Gifford).
    - Toomer is 2nd in Giants history with 10,344 total yards (Barber is 1st with 17,359)?In addition to his receiving yards, Toomer has 1,060 yards on punt returns, 257 yards on kickoff returns and 110 yards rushing.

Toomer can still play ball, and he certainly is no slouch, it would allow him to not have to leave NYC, and the guy is still damn clutch. Did you see some of his circus grabs just last year? The guy would certainly help Sanchez learn and develop. The downside is, he may not be a true #2 starter anymore, while I think Harrison could be. That said, I would not be upset with Amani.

This would be a terrible move. Even if he managed to last the whole year he would probably be retired by '10 anyway.

John Daly is probably one of the dumbest human beings to ever play golf. Why him as an avatar?

    So much talent; irresponsibly wasted.

... biggest thing for me is not giving up picks trying to bring in one of the boldin/edwards guys ...

... wouldn't mind the young kids watching harrison for a season ...

Harrison hardly played in 07, yet he came back and had 60 catches last year. He might still have something. But he's a possession type receiver. I don't know that he would add much.

THen again, unlike Boldin he wouldn't cost much, either.

They gotta do something to upgrade the receivers.

Doesn't look like Starvin Marvin will be an option for the Jets in 2009....it's too bad...he could've been a good mentor for our young Wideouts.

well so much for that option then.... Now i am hoping we bring in Toomer for a look, i would much rather sign him as a mentor than trade for a guy like boldin/edwards by giving up draft picks, or a QB's best friend in a top 3 (in the AFC) rushing attack by giving up Thomas Jones.

Edwards will only cost Jones..no picks involved. (At least that's the speculation)

Niether Harrison or Toomer are #1 recievers anymore we need a #1 reciever we dont need a veteran to teach for a year we are in win now mode and no1 should expect any less

Harrison is NOT the same receiver on grass as he is on turf.

Well my point is, without giving up pieces that we need to build a powerhouse in the future (our draft picks) or the biggest piece of our rushing attack (Jones) we cant trade for anyone. Meaning we cant get a #1 wr this year. So we need to bring in a #2 and let Cotch be the top guy for this year. I say bring in Amani, even though he has lost at least a step, because he can help bring along our young WR's and provide a security blanket for Sanchez.

A rushing attack is vital to helping a rookie Qb succeed. In a previous thread the magic number appeared to be 2,400 yards rushing with a rookie QB starting for a team to make the playoffs. thats why trading Jones is going to hurt the team more than help it. Sanchez needs his protection, and trading that away would IMO impede the development of our top pick.

I agree, but I don't want to sign a guy just to mentor another...I think the coaches should be able to do that.
