He not only pushed the Jet Boy (The boy was like 22- 23) but he actually grabbed him around his neck and tried to choke the guy because he threw a ball that landed near him. The guy didn't press chrages even though it was clearly eveident he waas choked. Cotchrocket is right on the money about this guy. Even Peyton Manning doesn't really know this guy. He also had an issue in Hawaii during the probowl beating up some autograph seekers. Personally I would stay away from a guy who's packing heat all the time in his gangsta neighborhood.
I'd like to see us sign either Harrison or Toomer... maybe even both. Just me though... thinking I'd like to have a veteran receiving corps for out new QB to play with his first year.
I will approve this signing 100% over any other WR left out there He is the perfect stop gap to help our WR core and Sanchez
Yet so many Jets fans are in favor of signing Matt Jones, a cokehead who's been arrested repeatedly. Go figure. If you only want players with sterling personalities and reputations then you aren't going to be very competitive in the NFL, that's the sad truth. The Jets are a better team with Harrison than without him, if they can get him signed to a deal that allows them to cut him without much consequence after the season then I say go for it.
I can understand the ball boy objection, but I don't put a whole lot of stock in the autograph story. Did anything ever come of that? I thought the whole thing got tossed out. It would seem awfully strange to me that he could choke and punch 3 15 year old boys (minors, after all), and simply have the whole thing swept under the rug with no sense of outrage. That one seemed fishy from the start.
Harrison is one of the great receivers in NFL history, arguably behind only Jerry Rice in that category. If he has a year left in the tank and he comes for no player compensation on a one year deal (or maybe two years if no really significant money is paid upfront) then I think it's hard to see how the Jets can say no. As a 3rd option for the Jets he'd relieve a lot of the pressure on the young guys, with Sanchez being the biggest beneficiary. Having a WR with sure hands and a proven ability to be where he is supposed to be on the field when the QB looks his way is going to be a plus for a guy getting tested for the first time in the NFL.
I think Harrison would make an excellent addition in the short term for this offense. And he's a 'cuse boy
yeah him, Burress, Chad Johnson, Ray Lewis.... I mean the list is endless of guys with questionable pasts that Jets fans want to bring in. Harrison is the least likely to cause problems this late in his career. Also you can't deny that a Future HOF talent like Harrison couldnt do more for Sanchez this year than David Clowney and Chansi Stuckey could. If you think that you are nuts. plus I am damn sure Harrison could teach these young WR's a thing or two don't you think? I still say he is the perfect guy for us now. Amani Toomer is second. behind those guys, the list drops quite a bit imo.
Toomer is incredibly underrated. The knock on him is his health, he does get dinged up. The Eli-Plax connection got all the press cause of the td's, but Toomer was the one making the clutch catches especially considering how many bad ball throws Eli makes. Toomer pulled a clutch spectacular catch out his ass every game and IMO, when on the field, he was the Giants most reliable receiver. They did him dirty by letting him go, but Steve Smith provides the same skills minus the height
I don't really want any player that's just gonna be 'for a year'. We've been there, and done that. I'd rather have an undrafted FA who can get better, not worse like Toomer will. Will it help Sanchez to have a guy for a year....and then the guy is gone?
IS HARRISON A DOME PLAYER THOUGH? how are his stats in bad weather? ie cold, rain snow or wind? peyton always got the bad rap,but was it caused by harrison not playing well in the weather. we know toomer is acclumated for the meadowlands
Agreed, thats why you bring in an aging vet who is a future HOF. He will teach a young WR corp, (note: even cotch is still pretty early in his career) and with a young franchise QB in the making likely to get plenty of snaps this year, he needs a security blanket, and who better to do that than the guy who was Peyton Manning's security blanket? also don't forget about Chansi Stuckey, he really has the chance to be a stud slot guy, he reminds me so much of Brandon Stokely its silly.
I'm not that high on Marvin Harrison at this stage. He's going to command more then the average summer veteran and all the stuff that has come out about him with the gun being fired and ending up at his carwash and that whole deal here in Philly makes me a bit wary. He strikes me as a guy that would be like Favre in the fact that he's a veteran that doesn't make the effort to click with the younger guys and it'd be more of a learn by watching scenario. Jurevicious isn't nearly the receiver but I think he'd be a good fit at a much lower price.
My fantasy football knowledge can answer the "is Harrison any good outside of the dome question?" The answer is he is not the same guy, especially the last 2 seasons. Everyone knew to bench him playing outdoors, he has lost a few steps and the grass just magnified that reality. Same can be said for Marc Bulger, guy can light it up in a dome but sit his ass when he is not on the fast track. A MUCH MUCH better pickup would be Matt Jones, he is young, up and coming, tall redzone threat and would immediately start and improve our WR corp. I trust he has resolved the coke issues, he paid a 4 game price and we should accept whatever small risk he brings.
EXACTLY... how some ppl on here are sayin they would rather pass on MARVIN HARRISON is beyond me.. yeah he isn't going to be the stud he was 4 years ago.. but he is still a great reciever..
Why do you 'trust he has resolved the coke issues'? Because they sent him to a class and suspended him? Have you ever known any real cokeheads? I have, and 'resolving coke issues' isn't as easy as it sounds. Especially if you have money to burn. I have a feeling that if it was as easy as that, he'd still be a Jaguar.
