This is a different situation tho, the Jets put in a lot of money and effort into this season and seeing as how we looked elite at one point and then completely fall apart will def. put pressure on ownership to at least consider a change. I'm not saying I think Mangini should be fired or that this season is doomed for failure but, unfortunately, it's something to think about

...oh and one more thing about Cowher. He nearly didn't win a SB. He got lucky that the Colts didn't return the Bettis fumble at the end of the AFC Championship Game. I'm not saying Cowher isn't a good coach, but let's not create the myth that he is Vince Lombardi.

It is disturbing how we completely destroyed the Cards and Titans and look so pathetic in other games, but there's still a LOT of riff-raff on this team. Plus we still have Bob Sutton. I though we'd go 10-6 or 11-5 at the start of the season.. so I'm not sure I should be complaining.

Cowher won the most fraudulent NFL game I ever saw. His team most likely wouldn't have even made it there if they didn't maim Carson Palmer in the Wild Card game.

I understand. If this and if that and if my aunt had a johnson she'd be my uncle, but that Steelers title was kinda bullshit.

Remind me mangini's record in 2006? I don't consider equalling our record of 2 years ago improvement. If mangini doesn't take us to the promised land this year, there is a problem.

even though it would be nice to get cowher, im tired of waiting for next year all the time. all offseason i anticipated this season with our new free agents. and until the 49ers loss i was optimistic about our chances. now even if we make the playoffs i know the chances of getting into the super bowl aren't good. and then if we get cowher ill be anticipating next season, but if next year we still have what should be a competitive team, and what everyone beliefs is a good coach and we still can't get it done, then what will be looking forward too?

If we can get Cowher, I almost wouldn't care if we missed the playoffs.

In year 3, there is a problem, so we should hire a guy who took 15 years to get there in a very questionable Super Bowl? Stupidity.

Yeah it's def. been a weird season, certainly a roller coaster ride. It's just annoying just how different the team looks from week to week. I thought after the Titans loss we'd finally have an offensive identity as a run oriented offense with a lot of quick throws and reads. And it's not like we haven't run well, we've been running well the past 2 games but never really established the run. Hopefully, the team just gets everything in order, we win out, take the division and ride the momentum into the playoffs.

You guys are idiots. This is already on Page 3? If you like it or not, Mangini will be back next year. Woody likes him and its not like Mangini did a bad job this year. The team could still go 11-5 and who know what would happen? 0% chance Cowher coaches the Jets.

So, to be fair, that is the standard your coach must be measured. He must improve the record year over year or two years.

So, Cowher takes over next season and goes 11-5, then 9-7. If he goes 10-6 the next season he should be fired, right? Or does he get different treatment?

Thankfully the posters on this board don't run the team. We'd be rotating the firing of coaches on a yearly basis - offensive coordinator one year, defensive coordinator the next, head coach after year three....next!

I actually think I read his post wrong.

He said the way the Panthers are playing, it isn't likely he will wind up there.

it took cowher 10 years+ to take the steelers to the superbowl but if mangini doesnt get us there in 3 he should be gone?

Mangini had to blow up the ENTIRE defense. This team is basically all his now. Look at all the great young talent he has brought in, revis, harris, dbrick, mangold, leon, the list goes on and on. Idk what you want from a coach, do you want Mike Singletary to pull down his pants at halftime, make a mockery of the professional athletes that play for him?

Mangini is a very promising head coach and if we let him go, he WILL get another job and bite us in the ass

Cowher is a 3-4 coach to the core. There are very few people that we could hire right now who would fit better in the new rebuild than him. Most of the 3-4 coaches out there (Nolan, likely Crennel, possibly Phillips) would be coming off of a failed effort on their last team. Cowher won a Super Bowl in his second to last season as Steeler's head coach and then basically left on his own terms.

First of all, I personally think it's ridiculous to be talking about replacing Mangini . . . EVEN IF WE MISS THE PLAYOFFS. I know most of you would probably disagree with me but I have always believed that NFL teams (and sports teams in general) are far too impatient with coaches. If the Titans were ever as impatient as people want the Jets to be in this case, Jeff Fisher would have been fired MULTIPLE times throughout his lengthy tenure as Head coach in Tennessee. I believe in letting a coach (especially a young coach) grow with the front office for 5 or 6 seasons. I think a lot of coaches just need a few years to get a handle on the job and what it takes to lead NFL teams to victory. A classic example of this is none other than Bellicheat. He was widely considered to be a mediocre head coach during his first stint in Cleveland. EVERYBODY said that he was a defensive genius who was made to be a lifelong defensive coordinator in the NFL. After four seasons, Cleveland got impatient with him (he had compiled a 36-44 record with only one playoff appearance - Interestingly enough, this would be very similar to Mangini's first few years as coach if we fired him after this season, except that Mangini's record would be closer to .500) and let him go. We all know how well he did when he got another shot . . .

Secondly, I HATE that this 'story' (sounds like baseless speculation to me - especially when you consider that the crypt-keeper is the source) has been gotten as much play as it has gotten. I think it can only serve as a distraction to Mangini and his staff. I also think it's amazingly UNFAIR to Mangini. (I realize that this happens all the time and that coaches are expected to deal with this sort of stuff . . It just really bothers me because I believe that this is meanginless speculation that does nothing positive for our team. I really think the sports media should be held to a higher standard when it comes to their 'reporting')

Going from 8-3 to 10-6 might be.

But I don't expect Mangini to get fired. I fully expect Sutton to be.

A year too late with Sutton sadly.

I agree. Herm has his scapegoats with Cotrell and Hackett...Then finally no matter who he had around him, he SUCKED.

So Mangini can buy himself another season if he gets rid of Sutton, and when it comes down to it...Who wouldn't? Stay a coach and all you have to do is fire someone to blame it on him.

To those stating how it took cowher 15 years to win a title, and this and that negatives about him, I move anyone to find a 15 year period in the history of the Jets that is even remotely comparable to that of the Steelers during the Cowher era....

Also when i said Cowher would only be here 2 or 3 years, I did not mean before Woody fired him, or we ran him out of town, but that before Cowher got the urge to go back to broadcasting and retirement. He has been coaching for a long long time.
