Im surprised amaro was cut.. im all for purging the roster of anything that can be traced back to idzik, but the team is so weak at tight end im surprised they released him. I guess there going to use enuwa at tight end allot, because kellen davis is disgusting.. im assuming we will see some crazy formations and personnel

We really don't need a tight end with the offense we run and the players we have at the skill positions. Marshall, Decker, Enunwa, Powell, and Forte are all better options before a tight end. Hell even Robby Anderson is better.

The biggest difference between Maccagnan and Idzik, is that Idzik was supposed to be a salary cap wizard where as Maccagnan is a top of the line talent evaluator.

Macc has been scouting college players for a very, very long time.

    1990: Scouting intern; Washington Redskins.

    1994: College scout; Washington Redskins.

    1995-2000: Pro scout; Washington Redskins.

2000-2010: Coordinator of college scouting; Houston Texans.

2010-2011: Assistant director of college scouting, Houston Texans.

2011-2014: Director of college scouting; Houston Texans.

Scouting talent is where Maccagnan has made an NFL living. Scouting college prospects is the reason why he's an NFL G.M as of today.

There's no way Macc would've passed up on Leonard Williams as a 'could've been' 1st overall draft talent where as Idzik went against the grain and selected a TE during the richest WR class to emerge in quite some time. And I credit a defensive line guru in Rex Ryan for the selection of Sheldon Richardson.

As a fan base we should all have confidence heading into future drafts with Macc taking charge. Two 7th rounder in Charone Peake and Lachlan Edwards (punter) along with two undrafted WR's in Robby Anderson & Jalin Marshall are speaking volumes to the talent evaluation ability of Maccagnan.

Why is anyone surprised that Amaro got?
He couldn't block and he had questionable hands.
    See ya!!!
Milliner couldn't stay healthy and he was terrible.
Other than returns what could Jeremy ross do?
It will be interesting who the Jets use as a blocking tight end!!!

I thought Shell did a nice job.
He got beat a couple of times, but I think he has potential.
Having said that, you're right, if Clady gts hurt, they are in a world of hurt.

There were a lot of people who liked Kyle wilson after the combine.
Some picks just don't work out.

Shell needs to be a guard and maybe right tackle at this level

Left tackle is too much for him....lets see how long it takes for them to figure it out

If you have a tight end that can only block and can't run routes then I don't understand why they just don't use a backup tackle as a tight end on those plays. A backup tackle should be able to block well at least and his size should make him a better blocker.

Have to admit I'm kinda surprised at how fast Amaro flamed out. I honestly thought he was a star TE in the making and an absolute steal when we drafted him. Oh well...happy trails.

Actually, I thought they waived him with an injury designation. I believe that in that situation either someone claims him off waivers and then they take on his contract, so then the Jets have no dead money or, if he's not claimed, then he goes on Jets IR and since you no longer have to designate someone on IR as being able to return, then if the Jets have a couple of serious injuries at CB then they could activate Dee off IR if they need to (and can't find anyone better). This move seems like a win-win for Mac. Either he gets claimed and the Jets are off the hook on his contract or he remains available to be activated off IR in the event of injury to other CBs. Really smart move for Mac.

Now that you say it like that, it's not a bad move to me.

Well it's a shame he didn't work out. He had a lot of upside, but the problem is you don't take a guy with upside that has a horrible history of injuries in the first round of the draft.

I thought he looked pretty good when he was healthy. The San Diego game stuck out to me his rookie year. No problem with him being cut, but god damn our recent draft history has been just putrid.

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/draft.htm

We now only have TWO players on the roster from 2008-2012, and 5 from 2006-2012 (which included a hiatus from Revis), and 10 players in total through the 2013 draft. 10 players out of 60 selections, and that only includes 6 starters. Horrible.

Maccagnan is in the position a GM never wants to be in, and that's one where we absolutely need to start hitting on some mid-round picks, which is why the young receivers developing is so damn important to the future of this franchise. From last years draft we look to have a stud in Leonard Williams and a possible quality starter in Mauldin. This years draft we have a starter/future starter at ILB, a starter at OLB in Jenkins, and a young cornerback with a lot of potential in Justin Burris. It all really hinges on whether or not this staff can develop one of these two quarterbacks they've taken.
