Tcrock, this was something i was thinking about today after the excitement of getting him back here wore off. The things you bring up are possibilities. I wonder how the other guys on the team feel about this red carpet crap and the fact that the org just made him seem more valuable than each and every one of them. As mike and the dog brought up,I wonder how this ridiculous 28 mil will effect re-signing Arod if he continues to kick ass this year. All valid concerns. But I am still all for the deal to get him here because this is all "what if" and there is also a chance it works the other way. Cashman said that the team was consulted before they made the deal, and if they didn't think he would be a positive addition, they wouldn't have made the deal. You guys are just killing it beofre the first pitch is thrown and that is ridiculous. No,we haven't won in 7 years, but this is also an organization with a history of stringing together multiple consecutive championships,so i'm gonna go with them on this one before listen to Met and Sox fans.

i see what ur saying....from a pure baseball point of view, how can it hurt.....however, like you pointed out, there just are soo many implications, mostly negative, that this will have on the Yankees..guys like Jetrer, Rivera, Posada......and even now A-rod.

The Yankees clearly had a chemistry issue last year, and imho they continue to hurt themselves there...and aren't learning the lesson

Yeah, I'm a Met fan, but in trying to look at it objectively, if there is one team in the Majors that shouldn't have to bend to his demands, it's the Yanks......I just can't believe they did

Cashman sounded mighty meek in trying to defend it too...sounds completely like they did it just to make sure he didn't wind up with the Sox

I just read an article on ESPN.com about this. Jason Giambi joked that he would "carry his bags to the car" for Clemens.

This team is happy to have him here. Anyone that thinks differently is trying desperately to fool themselves into believing this isn't a significant move by the Yankees.

Again, it's a stop-gap in the rotation. However, he will boost Andy, who will boost him back. Together, they'll help out the numerous kids we have in the rotation, and maybe even the pen.

The morale argument here is lost. Clemens, even if he doesn't pitch like he's still 25, is still a hugely positive influence on this team.

if you actually believe that I think your being pretty naive....you don't think Giambi might say something differently in private than he would in public.....c'mon now.

exactly, and thats what I am banking on. His value will not only be on the field.

I think you're wrong. Certain players coming to the end of their career are going to be in this to win a ring, and wouldn't still be doing this unless they had a chance to. I think guys like Jeter who have won here with Character players might have a chance of feeling that way,But Giambi just wants a ring,in as little time as possible.

HE's NOT GOING TO BE THERE WHEN HE'S NOT PITCHING..that's all part of the "Family Plan" chuckle chuckle

how is that going to help off the field?

I truly think it helps you guys on the field but hurts everywhere else.....and I think you guys are kidding yourself if you don't see that.

again, don't take it personal, but I think this is naive.....baseball players are professionals, do not kid yourself.....while winning championships is important, how they are compensated is at least equal if not more important....and in this instance, with so many championship calibre players who have won with or without Roger, I'm certain there will be animosity

what are these guys going to say to someone who interviews them..."Oh I hate the idea of Roger coming....it's bullshit that he gets all these perks and I don't"

    these guys aren't stupid either

It's 18 million, it's not 28 million. Sure, you can make the argument that it is still more then anyone else will make on a per game basis but if you ask the players if it means the difference between being in the playoffs or not being in them at the end of the season, to a man I would bet they would say the money means nothing to them.

The Red Sox had their chance to preempt Roger Clemens's announcement that he had agreed to pitch for the Yankees again. Clemens's agent, Randy Hendricks, was in Boston last week for meetings with Sox brass and had dinner in John W. Henry's box Wednesday night when the Sox made their bid for the Rocket. It was for a prorated $18 million, more than $10 million less than the prorated $28 million Clemens agreed to take from the Yankees. Sox CEO Larry Lucchino, according to club sources, thought Clemens was still days from making a decision -- Lucchino believed this Thursday was the operative date -- leaving the Sox time to tweak their offer if they chose.

Well not everyone can give a 45 year old the highest salary ever in the history of baseball. I can't blame him for at least making a decent offer to start..
