While I respect you're opinion and such, that honestly was not the best of arguements. Hughes will be back in the rotation when he comes off the DL. Clemens will only be here for this year, and Pettitte and Mussina are here for two years tops. Clippard will be up next year to take Clemens' spot, and in two years, guys like Betances, Chamberlain, and Kennedy will be ready to go. With that said, I don't agree with those that are saying signing Clemens was a better deal than Matsuzaka. To me, they are on the same level, and it really depends on whether or not you would rather invest long term in a pitcher, or have him for one year. With the great pitching depth the Yankees have in the minors, I'd personally rather have Clemens for one year than Matsuzaka for six. I don't know if the Red Sox have any top notch pitchers in the minors (and know they aren't on the same level as the Yankees) so a long term investment makes more sense to them. Both teams paid an excessive amount of money for their pitchers, both got very talented players, and both have a very formidable rotation.
I think that was misinterpreted. I was responding to the quote that Yankee fans don't want two rookies in their rotation, and I only liked that because I'm a Sox fan, but my point is that I would like it even if I was a Yankee fan. That may be because I'm OBSESSED with young pitching, but I honestly would be thrilled with rookies in the rotation. I didn't mean to imply that the Yankees had no youth in their rotation. As for Sox prospects, they have Lester coming soonish I would imagine, then in a year or two have 3 very highly touted pitchers coming in Clay Buchholz, who has a 1.61 ERA and 27 K's to just 3 BBs in 22 1/3 innings at AA, Michael Bowden who in 33 innings at Class A has a 1.91 ERA, 37 K's, and 7 BBs, and Daniel Bard, who has a 100 MPH fastball and decent secondary pitches, but has struggled due to a strained bicep. His MLB comparison is AJ Burnett.
Oh, I see. And the thing is that guys like Karstens and Rasner and DeSalvo are already 26/27 and don't have much "potential," so they aren't as flashy as guys like Hughes or Clippard (if/when he comes up). And I can't believe I forgot about Bucholz and Bard. I was in love with Bard coming out of UNC last year
True. But no doubt this makes the Yankees better, just at a steep price. The Boss just cares about his team and fans, and is only dedicated to winning, so the passion will always be there for George. I'm excited, #22 back in the pinstripes.
This is a GOOD GOOD GOOD pick up. RC may not know the division any more but you are talking about the Rocket . With former teammates and a familiar stadium , I'm sure he'll do fine age is not a concern it's a 1 yr deal . Now it would be nice to have hin locked up until he's in the old folks home...:breakdance: .... yall know Im just playing about a long term deal .. But this does help out the rotation alot even if he only goes 6 innings thats better than what has been happening . Hell its a great pick up for him to mentor the young pitchers !!!!!
Wow, 7 whole years ago. Amazing. You realize by even saying that you agree the Yankees should win every year. You're accustomed to it as is everybody else.
 Are you high or something? $150+ on the payroll not to mention countless millions to renovate Fenway to increase the capacity.
dammit, im angry. not because i wanted the Mets to get him, but because this makes the Yankees better. fuckin Roger Clemens....
I love this thread. You can see the fans of other teams and you know what they are thinking. "Oh shit, here comes the Yankees."
I don't think it's so much that...Sure the Yankees hopefully will be sparked by this and Torre SHOWING EMOTIONhmy: today, with everything going on. But I think it's more like "Oh here they go spending more again." But I love it...The Yankees are The Evil Empire after all right?
I'm actually not that worried about this. Not because I don't think Clemens will be good, but because I still think the Red Sox have a better pitching staff overall. It all comes down to this... The Yankees NEEDED Clemens to try to fix a very broken staff. For the Sox, he would have been a luxury, something that would have put them over the top without question.
right, since you won in 2000, you blew 2001, 2003, and basically blew away 2004. Looks like a real winner to me.
Who did they beat in 2000? If you could please re-fresh my memory. Look, the Yanks haven't won anything since 2000. I don't care about Division titles or pennants, that's for everyone else to cheer and parade about.
All you did was name the last 6 world series winners and labeled them winning organizations. So I guess the Mets are not a winning organization by your logic:up:
I understand. A Mets fan who named the last 6 world series winner and forgot who won the world series 7, 8, and 9 years ago. Playing w/ the stats to convey your point better
why should they win every year? They have an old team full of guys on the downside of their career and little depth and youth. And to fix their problem, they being in a 45 year old steroid user. Yeah, great pickup. The only people who think an all-star retirement community should win every year are Yankee fans and management. The same ones who act they've won something this century, when in reality they haven't.
