Yeah Paying Pace that much money is going to be destructive to our cap for the 2 years, until a new CBA puts it through the roof. I dont think Pace is worth anywhere near what he got, maybe he is worth what we paid Bryan Thomas last season, but not the 7 million a year he's getting. On the Robertson trade, I am glad this didnt go through, I would rather us trade him to Philly for Lito Sheppard, or just renegotiate him so his salary is manageable and play him at DE and NT just rotating him. I mean the guy has been our best DL for 2 years now...
Either way we're fine and he's not getting paid. the only thing that will happen is that he is cut before June 1 and he doesn't get paid (and we get nothing for him). Not that that's the best situation, but it's an option. Nevertheless, with Marcus Thomas getting arrsested in Denver, I think the Broncos are going to be even more aggressive in trying to get Robertson. They were one of the first few teams to show interest and i think they are going to be forced to make some kind of move now.
Who's this Alex guy? It doesn't even look like the Fox Sports site, but the message forum. How much validity does this guy have?
I think it's true. Rotoworld - http://www.rotoworld.com/content/pl...gnews.asp?sport=NFL&id=925&line=113666&spln=1
He's been a beat writer for a few teams. I'm almost certain he wrote for the dolphins not to long ago.
They should try to trade him to JAX...... his deal will most certainly need to be restructured though. I bet they can get a 3rd (that JAX gained in the Stroud trade) then it would be the equivalent that JAX swapped the injured, unhappy Stroud for DRob & a 5th rd pick. I bet they bite. they also released DE Bobby McCray today. they'll need Dline help to maintain their defense.
why would philly be looking for a DT?...they have like 4 great DT's on their roster...last year they had to move one just because they had so much talent at the position not too mention money tied into the position...dewayne for lito has 0 chance as for the trade falling through...i am not too upset i thought we moved early to clear cap for slightly less than we could get, but now i dont think anyone would really offer much more i am ok with keeping dewayne given his versatility...i dont think making room would be as tough as pft makes it out to be here's hoping denver, jax, or detroit can come to terms with drob and the jets FO
Now this is some sour news on a relatively great day. D-Rob's cap hit is going to be hard to swallow and probably screw up our 'cap situation'.
I just hope were not responsible for this trade falling apart, maybe bengal people monitor this forum- we call him DSlob and talk about how the great a trade it was for the Jets to get a 4th and 5th rounder for a player wed probably cut if we couldnt trade
Here is a link from the Bengals website about Robertson and the TRADE BEING OFF COMPLETELY....also it mentions that Colts TE Ben Utecht is schedule to visit the Jets next week..... http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=6669 Hope the Link works....but just in case here is the story... Bengals grind on By GEOFF HOBSON March 3, 2008 Updated: 8 p.m. The Bengals broke off talks with Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson Monday afternoon and they moved into what proved to be successful negotiations with free-agent defensive end Antwan Odom. According to published reports, the Bengals and New York had a deal in place for fourth- and fifth-round picks pending Cincinnati working out a new contract with Robertson based on money and a physical. Hadley Engelhard, Robertson's agent, said the two sides couldn't come to terms, although later in the day the Bengals took about a $6 milion salary cap hit on a five-year deal for Odom worth nearly $30 million with $11.5 million guaranteed. It was another close call for the Bengals two days after the NFL voided their trade with the Lions for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers because of a technicality in roster bonus language and left them still trying to shore up a front four bracing for games against six of the NFL's top 10 rushing teams from last season. The defensive tackle market has been pretty much plucked clean with the Jaguars trading Marcus Stroud to the Bills, and the Packers and Lions shipping Corey Williams and Rogers, respectively, to the Browns. The Bengals also confirmed a Monday visit by Marlon McCree, another Kentucky product and a free safety last with San Diego. The agent for Colts tight end Ben Utecht said his client plans to visit the Bengals before heading to the Jets next week.
yeah no worries....he will be trade somewhere or re-negioate his contract....or be released (which would suck)....pretty sure he is not going to Cincy though, since they signed Odom after not completing this trade...
