I disagree. They were not gonna take Jones even if he was there, nor were they going to move Becton.

I didn't want Sauce. I wanted Thibodeaux or JJ there. I'm happy now that things worked out the way they did and we have Sauce.

Yes they were. Saleh can give all the lip service they want. Becton was going to get moved with Broderick Jones in play.

If you didn't want Sauce you need watch more college film. Sauce was an absolute stud on tape in college. He didn't give up a touchdown across two seasons. that's insane.

Lol. What’s the trade lol. I’m sorry I’m trying to get this with a straight face…. What’s the current market for Becton?

I remember an exchange of ours clearly

You: We’re not taking a CB at 4, we don’t utilize top CBs in our system

Me: No one is saying, we should take a CB at 4… people are saying we should take Sauce at 4

Followed up with lots of name calling on both sides… good times.

Day 3 pick 2023. We declined his 5th option. So he’s gone after this year. and he may not even start.

what are you talking about? We signed Turner, Drafted Warren, Mitchell will compete for RT, and AVT is backup LT option.

With Broderick you reset and Becton who cares. If he doesn’t play he walks, if he does it’s RT, where he doesn’t. Brown doesn’t retire with Rodgers here now.

    They absolutely wanted Broderick.

Hopefully, that's all in the past between us. At least it is, from my perspective.

Yah…interesting. Leading up to the draft, I thought there was no chance of us taking a corner at 4. I thought it would be one of the OT’s or a pass rusher too. In fact, I think I posted that we’d be better with the pass rusher and Bryce Hall at CB than we would with a rookie corner and not the pass rusher.

So I was surprised, but like you, I was glad to be wrong…I didn’t anticipate Sauce to be as good as he was…he was legitimately Revis-like. So in hindsight sure it was the correct move, especially since we were still able to get the pass rusher later, but at the time I was a bit surprised.

But yup, JD was right and I was wrong here….

You weren't alone. A lot of Jets fans wanted Sauce, but a lot of us thought that we needed an OT or an Edge too. As fans, we can become so convinced that we are right about what moves the team should make, whom they should, whom they should sign in FA, whom they should hire, etc. Sometimes we are right, but sometimes we are wrong. No matter if we played high school and college football ourselves, how long we've been watching football, and how much study of draft prospects we do, we don't know as much as most of the professionals do. We know less than even the incompetent professionals like Gase and Kotite. It's just that they add 2 + 2 and come out with 3 or 6. There are so many variables with them...how they balance need vs BPA, what their plans are, how they evaluate players, how they evaluate their positions of need, what their priorities are, and more. It's humbling for us, but I think that's a good thing. I know that I was perhaps one of the worst in thinking I was right in what the Jets needed and whom they should draft, but I'm learning. Getting humbled by JD and the Jets has been a healthy, good thing for me.

One of the things I like about JD and the Jets' drafts now is that we're often pleasantly surprised. With previous regimes, the drafts were fairly predictable, both in terms of whom they might take in the early rounds and the final result of those drafts (awful!). Now, there are no leaks about whom they like and want, and no one has a clue whom the Jets will draft, whether the Jets will trade up, trade down or stay put. We know the type of players they like: high character, non-stop motor, love football, team captains, smart, very athletic, and fast), and we know that they look for BPA over need. Unlike with previous GMs, we know how they evaluate draft prospects. It was a revelation to me, when JD instructed the scouts to change how prospects were evaluated. I had always assumed that every team evaluated draft prospects for scheme fit, and traits that they were looking for in the players they draft, rather than evaluating which round they would most likely be drafted in and what their ranking was vs others at their position regardless of scheme. If the latter is the way the Jets had been evaluating draft prospects all these years, it's no wonder that we had so many awful drafts. If JD had done nothing else for the Jets he would have helped us immensely by getting our scouts evaluating draft prospects in the correct manner. Thankfully, that hasn 't been the only good thing he has done, and the change has produced great fruit for the team.

Just this year is the perfect example. Most everyone thought the Jets were going to take an OT at #13 or #15. As it turns out, they probably wanted Jamyr Gibbs, a RB, but wound up with Will McDonald, an Edge/pass rusher. It's good because other teams will have a harder time try to figure out whom the Jets want and will take, but at least for me, it's making the draft much more interesting and fun. I don't put any credence in the idea that Belichik traded down with the Steelers just to screw the Jets, but if he did, the joke was on him. I think I remember that with Mac, everyone knew whom he wanted in the 1st round, and I think we may have lost out on a player or two he wanted as a result. That's not likely to happen with JD most of the time. Of course, if the Jets have a glaring need at a position, and there is a stud at that position with great character and a perfect scheme fit, chances are that many will be able to figure out whom the Jets will probably take, but there will always be that doubt in their minds.

With previous GMs, I felt compelled to do a ton of research myself to see whom the Jets should take. Now, I don't feel that need. I trust the Jets' braintrust that they will make the best selections they can and will do a very good, if not great, job addressing needs and upgrading talent via the draft and FA. They also find really good UDFAs.
