It's simple. Remember that Revis wanted $16m/year when he was with the Jets, and so Idzik traded him. What was his contract with the Bucs? $16m/year for 6 years. And then when he signed with the Patriots, it was for $12m, and a $20m option the next year... which if exercised, averages out to $16m/year. What's his new contract with the Jets? $16m, $16m, $16m, $11m, $11m. Those first 3 years are $16m each. It's very clear that that $16m/year figure is important to Revis, and that's what he's been seeking since 2011. When he asked the Patriots for $16m/year, they threw in the $20m option year as their compromise, so that he could feel like he got a 2 year $32m contract, aka the $16m/year deal that he was seeking. Of course I think he knew there was a low chance that the $20m option would be exercised, but he wanted to stick by that $16m figure.
I think he did expect to be paid more than Asomugha, for sure. $16m would've been maybe the top pay of any defensive player at the time (in 2011.) Probably equal to the top non-QB contracts of the time, like Fitzgerald and Megatron. After Suh got around $18m/year, I assumed that that would be what Revis wanted, but he stuck by the $16m figure. I think JJ Watt is easily the best defensive player in football today (or just the best player period), and that barring injuries he will go down as the greatest pass rusher of all time. (He's had two 20+ sack seasons in his first 4 years.) Maybe Revis figures that if Watt was okay with ~$14.5m/year, and he's the best defensive player out there- that the Jets contract was a good deal.
Lol no. Revis put it in there so he couldn't be franchised the next year. Had nothing to do with him "needing 16M".
Agreed. It also insured that he would be a FA this year. His signing bonus counts $5million against the cap for the Pats this year, picking up the $20 million option would have required them to cut a crapload of other players. As it turned out, it was a win/win for both sides.
Declaration we should all make as Jet fans. If you have nothing nasty to say about the scumbag pat team, fans, management, etc. Don't post. By being fair? nice etc, all u are doing is feeding these scumbags egos. I of course don't hate any of them except when they invade my favorite's team board to inject their stupidity. JMHO
Hey I have plenty bad to say about them but there are some things like the rule that just got changed that don't rate in terms of cheating but people still act like it's cheating. Maybe im being idealistic or something but I would prefer to dwell on their actual cheating than to call the intelligent way they exploit league rules to their advantage as cheating, because to me that just lowers the posts on this forum to the level of stupidity on that Patsfans.com forum Of and by the way "PickSix" is just a Pats fan pretending to be a Jets fan, look up his posts it's obvious, especially when he pretends to criticize the Pats and starts using the number of Boston championships as a reason LOL
The NFL defines tampering as “Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club’s player to that player’s agent or representative, or to a member of the news media.” Kraft said, “He’s a great player. The fan in me wishes he were still with us.” Kraft's was absolutely a public statement of interest. When coaches talk about other teams players they for the most part talk about how they are going to stop them in the next game, praise their play or something along those lines. Now neither Kraft's nor Woody's statements were truly tampering but if one is fined then the other absolutely must be.
