Winters impressed yesterday. He left a turd 6 inches long with a 4 inch diameter in the locker room bathroom before the game. The future at G and C.
This is easily the worst OL depth the Jets have had since 2011. I have next to 0 confidence that this unit can even be average. They were putrid all preseason long. Nobody stepped up at all. Before I was thinking somewhere 8-8 to 11-5....now I'm having a hard time even seeing 7-9. Mac deserves serious criticism for this garbage unit as well as the continued ineptitude at the QB position. The combo of Fitz behind this line could make for even more shame than the butt fumble.
Any thoughts on bringing in John Sullivan? He was the Vikings starting Center and has been an All-Pro. Missed all of last year with an injury (Back, maybe?). I would think he could make a fine RG, as he's accustomed to opening holes for A.P.
Oline depth really struggled last night. Guys i had hopes for too.. Shell got Petty killed. flat out burnt on that pass pro. Had some other pass pro miscues. he's not ready although i still hope he turns out eventually. might need to consider RT next year for him. Ijalana got burnt on pass pro on the pick 6. whiffed on the inside move. that was not encouraging. Qvale may have landed the starting role on that. Dozier got smoked badly by Shittu (great name) on a run stuff. he hasn't looked good all preseason and probably won't make the 53. Wes Johnson also got smoked by Shittu on a run stuff. had a holding call, and i think another penalty (couldn't make out number ref called). Watts also got a holding call, but all in all had a better preseason than Dozier.
Add the shit long snaps in the shot gun all pre-season. Seemed liked every other snap the QB had to reach for a bad snap. Lotta them at their feet, and it was really fucking up their rhythm, and took away from their time focusing on the D. Pissed me off along with the lack of time the QB's had, and hits sustained by them
Can we get Dalton Freeman back? Wes Johnson looked decent last year and had C/G flexibility, but was pretty bad this preseason.. disappointing.
Yup. I was really looking forward to that game last night to see Petty and Hack. I was worried about the protection going in too. Can't expect much in the 4th game tho, so I should've tempered my enthusiasm. But I was so disappointed in the the Petty injury and lack of help they had with the line.
He has badly regressed as the preseason has gone on. For a guy who obviously has good feet & all the tools...he sure is sloppy peeling off the edge. His aiming points are atrocious & he shows no urgency in recovery. Likely too soon to give up on the guy...they keep trying to force this OT thing..but if he can't provide a pocket for the QB(Right now he can't) he either needs serious technique work, a different position or to be shown the door. I've said guard for this guy all offseason. He seems pretty quick off the snap...has good feet & is strong...if he struggles out on the edge...why not try him in the phone booth? Sadly he might already be better than Winters.
This is my only gripe with Mac. Virtually ignoring the O-Line. Drafting BPA, --- I get it, - but we have serious problems on O-line. As far as OG go, - i was disappointed in the past couple of years not even making a run at either Evan Mathis before he signed with Denver for a one-year, $2.5 million contract or Matt Slauson who went to SD. I can't even think of any RTs we were considering, draft or FA.
Rewatched the Phily game and paid special attention to the offensive line. It's a physical impossibility to assess QB progress with this pathetic OL. I agree with everything said above. Some one better find some help. Shell does not belong on the field, Dozier is not getting it, Ijalana is far from ready....this is seriously impacting our running and passing game. We are beyond weak. I never thought I would root for Giaco t come back. Where is Colon when you really need him?
He was banking on Breno being healthy by now..which gives the OT situation a whole different complexion. While Giacomini is not perfect...he can hold the fort..and while Qvale & Ijalana are not eye opening starters..they are reliable back-ups.Shell needing time would've been much more of a foregone conclusion. Now you've got a logjam of back-ups vying for the position which typically anchors a pro style running game. At guard..you had Dozier going into his 3rd year after showing progress from year 1 to year 2..and Jarvis Harrison post red shirt rookie year. This really let him down. Not only did neither push Winters...but basically there is nobody reliable on the roster to back him up either..Craig Watts maybe a find..but he's developmental. One of Mac's specialties is supposed to be O-line. At least that's what was circulated by the media when he took the job. In my opinion they need to pick 1/2 spots on the right side & try to sign an upgrade. The most logical choice is RT bc it works well financially as they can save $ by dumping Breno. That said there appears to be more talent being released by other clubs at the guard position.
I absolutely agree. Evans was one of the greatest Franchise players of All-Time for New Orleans. He's coming off an injury plagued 2015 but the reason why N.O released Evans at the end of last year was due to Evans not only refusing to re-work his contract but also due to N.O being $10 million over the salary cap (saved $3.1 million with the release of Evans). If not for cap hell Evans is still with the Saints today. He's getting up there in age at 33 but he's also a former All-Rookie, a 1x Second-team All-Pro (2013), a 5x First-team All-Pro (2008-2012), a 6x Pro Bowler (2009-2014) along with having SB winning experience (XLIV). 153 games played/153 games started. He's also got RG experience. Was a RG during his All-Rookie season, as a 2nd year player he started all 16 games at RG for a Saints offense that ranked #3, as a 3rd year player he started at RG for an offensive line that only allowed 13 sacks for the year (a Saints Franchise Record) etc, etc. His play has fell off over the past 2 seasons but with all these question marks surrounding the right side of our line (including Winters @ RG) and especially with our backup offensive lineman... I see no reason why the Jets front office wouldn't/doesn't look to sign Jahri Evans to a 1 year deal (as soon as possible). Last night after being released by Seattle, Evans stated that he "feels great, and feels as if he's still a top guard in this league; if not the best". He's so worth the gamble heading into 2016.
Hack was horrible, but for God's sake couldn't even set his feet to throw, the pocket collapsed on every dropback
