Unless he's more incompetent than I suspect, I would be surprised if he hasn't been lobbying Woody to let him fire Rex.

Why would Idzik have said no to the job? He wasn't as high profile as some of the others, and it was an opportunity to move up the ladder, and I assume make a lot more money. If he had straightened out the Jets and built a winner he would have been lauded as being "great." He followed an incompetent boob and the chances were he couldn't do much worse, yet he somehow did.

I suppose, he could have wanted Rex, but based on their backgrounds and their personality types, I just don't see that as a realistic possibility.

"Is it really his [Ryan's] fault that the offensive side of the football is a complete mess?"
Yes. Does that really deserve an answer?

What do you mean "let?" Really?? Oh, that's riiigghhhttt....I forgot! Mike Vick is 12...yeeeessssssss...poor wittle Rex Ryan didn't hold his 12 yr. old QB's hand and make sure he done read his playbook and understood the offense. SHAME on Rex Ryan. Are you fucking kidding me? These are MEN...not your god damn kid. Mother F'er...this post pisses me off more than anything stupid I've read over the last week or so. Fucking unreal!!!! Guys like Rich Eisen etc...get paid to know what they are fuckin' talking about and here you are discounting decades of experience and opinion based off of such utter bullshit as to make a dumb ass statement that one man "let" another man not be prepared. Unbelievable....now I know we need to flush the fan base at this point.

What do I mean be 'let'?

I mean give him the reps to learn the plays.

Or basically, you know, do whatever all the other teams do that have second string QBs who come in and know which way to hand the ball off. You know, that kind of stuff.

Oh, and I like Rich Eisen, but he's got a boner for Rex Ryan too. Fact is, the guy has completely, abjectly failed as a coach and it's in front of everyone's faces.

    The emperor has no clothes.

Dude, you're better than this. I understand that the Jets are driving us all nuts, but I think your reply is uncalled for and flat out wrong.

The HC is responsible for the team's being prepared and performance. That's the bottom line. Vick was unprepared at SD. That was inexcusable. Rex should have gotten in his face and Mornhinweg's and let them know it darned well better not happen again. It's Rex's job to follow through and make sure that his position coaches and coordinators are doing their jobs and getting the players ready to play. It's called being the boss and holding your employees accountable. If you can't post without taking God's name in vain, take a vacation from posting. It's offensive and uncalled for.

You're right on point with this one brother.
It all goes back to Rex being a joke of a HC. Rex Ryan is responsible for everything that goes on between the white lines, that's what you employ a HC for, to run a tight ship, make sure guys are prepared.
Vick's attitude is nothing but "I'm here to collect a paycheck". Just listen to him interviewed before Geno got benched. He never acted like he wanted to play. He's lost his fire.
Idzik is responsible for the crap he's brought to this team but Rex , his job is to coach them up, make sure they're prepared. That's what a REAL HC is supposed to do.
Rex is too busy scheming in the defensive meetings instead of coaching this whole team.
How anyone doesn't see that this organization needs a fu€King HAZMAT team to come to Florham Park and scrub this whole place clean like some Ebola victims apartment is beyond me.

Everyone seems to think they know what has been going on. I was just trying to think of alternate possibilities. Completely theoretical

Eisen is right about everything, except Rex needs to go too. What a mess.

My whole "point" behind the rant is this...yes, the HC is responsible for the preparedness of the team. Yes, the HC is responsible. I'm not denying this...but many on here seem to be alluding that Rex just wakes up...goes into the facility and sits on his ass all day long. I have got to believe he's in their "dish" about being prepared but at some point the damn HC can't READ the playbook for him. He certainly shouldn't be "holding" it for him. At some point you have to rely on "Hey, Mike...did you read your book...do you know what you need to do? Do you understand the install for this week?" "Sure coach...I got this." The HC has to have some kind of trust that they are doing what they say they are. Toss on top of that Mike got MAYBE 5% of the reps in practice that week...that's pretty standard for the backup...so, it's not like you could TELL he didn't know what the hell he was doing.

This week is a little different. Mike is going to get 100% of the reps. IF he looks as lost, this week, as he did last week...then you'll find me lining up right behind everyone else to pound on Rex a bit. But until that happens...I reserve that Michael Vick failed to be prepared all on his own. THAT is on the player...not the coach. THAT is the whole god damn point of having a VETERAN backup! They shouldn't NEED to be practicing all week to come in and take care of business. Hell, we could have pulled Simms from the stands on Sunday to look that inept.

We're in basic agreement. I'm not excusing Mike Vick at all. As you said, he is a veteran. He knows that while the Jets want Geno to start, things are iffy at best with Geno, and he should have been not only ready to play, but eager to play, and play at a high level. He's obviously just here for the paycheck. I never wanted him anyway, but accepted him because of his talent and hoped that he could help Geno at least some.

I started to not even respond to your post because you yet again took God's name in vain. That is unacceptable. You owe a number of us an apology and imo you should get vacation imposed on you.

Vick signs on to back-up arguably the worst starting qb in the leaugue.

    How are you "not prepared"?

    That's a character issue...not a coaching issue.

<sigh> You just HAD to go there and pull some religious garbage on me... I'm not going to apologize...This is the United States of America and the last time I checked speech was free. This is a football board and not Saints of the Running River or whatever...if you do not like what I say do not read it. Obviously you've never been inside a football locker room...or on a sideline... If I am banned from this board then I walk...no worries...I've not incited any terror, spewed racial junk nor singled out and attacked anyone specifically. I'm ranting just like many other Fans. I'm not here to bolster or respect YOUR religious beliefs. In fact I am concerned that you brought it up.

I don't need you to bolster my religious beliefs, but by the same token, I should be able to come here and read and discuss football without being offended or having religion brought into the matter at all. An intelligent person doesn't need to curse to get his point across, and one should be able to discuss football without mentioning God's name at all. You're the one who's bringing religion into the discussion, not me.

A respectful person doesn't offend others unnecessarily. You seem like you might be intelligent, but your temper is obviously out of control, and making you look less intelligent. You're certainly not acting in an intelligent fashion. Mostly, you're hurting and demeaning yourself. If you want to be a masochist and make yourself look bad, have at it, but I'm not going to be a part of it. Since you choose to be unreasonable and uncivil, I will put you on ignore.

    and there it is.
you've been spewing your hatred for Rex since you've joined this forum. It was obvious to me that it was personality driven, masked with vein attempts to cite football reasons to validate yourself.

It's all coming from a place of moral high ground..
could it have started with this speech for you?

One of my big issues with Rex is his influence in the draft. Maybe it's not a huge influence, but you can't deny how the Jets keep picking defensive players in the first round year after year. It's a big reason why this team no matter what sucks on offense. The Jets need a stud receiver and QB before they will ever amount to anything. In today's NFL you can find good RBs just about anywhere, so focus on building the OL, finding a WR, and QB.
